              Book Description

The e-governance revolution is said to be changing everything, but will all the modelling tools, electronic meeting management systems and online consultations really change political judgement in policy formation? Using case studies from local and federal government in the US and Europe, Perri 6 examines these claims and presents a new theory of how policy makers use and reject information and do and don't trust each other with information in using the new tools, before analyzing the implications for democracy.

5 out of 5 stars Writing High Quality Business Plan.......2007-06-22

This book is an excellent and handy resource for those wishing to write an effective business plan. The book shows how to write a simple start-up plan that includes a summary, mission statement, keys to success, market analysis, and break-even analysis. This kind of plan is very useful for deciding whether or not to proceed with a plan, to tell if there is a business worth pursuing, but it is not enough to run a business with.

The book and attached COD-ROM clearly shows how to develop a business plan that works for a business to look ahead, allocate resources, focus on key points, and prepare for problems and opportunities. Business plans are not only for starting a new business or applying for business loans but also are critical for running a business, whether or not the business needs new loans or new investments. Businesses need plans to optimize growth and development according to priorities.

The book is highly recommended for those that wish to come up with a high quality business plan

5 out of 5 stars Business Plan Demystified!.......2006-12-22

Where was this book when I needed it? Take it from somebody who's learned the hard way: Probably no aspect of creating a new small business attracts as much attention as the business plan. In starting my own venture, I read all the books, took all the courses, and attended all the seminars. Everybody promised me the "magic bullet" formula for writing a winning business plan.--none of them worked. I could have saved myself a ton of time (not to mention a boat load of money) if I had Sharon Fullen and Dianna Podmoroff's book in front of me on day one.

In these gem-packed pages you'll get all the hand-holding you need to write a winning business plan--one that has the traction to secure financing. And you can move through the process in a way that works best for you. Follow the easy-as-pie blueprint to build your business plan from the ground up. Absolutely no experience necessary! Or, take the FAST PLAN approach and get the quick-hit tools and concepts you want in only the topic areas you want. There's even a companion CD-ROM with business plan and financial spreadsheet templates, so you can plug in your own data and add it to your plan.

It's all here--samples, resources, toolkits, and real-life applications. The help is easy to get and easy to use! This is "business plan demystified." So, where was this book when I needed it?

Your First Business Plan simplifies the process by outlining the different parts of a business plan and, in an uncomplicated question-and-answer style, eases you into the creation of a winning plan for your business.

The easy-to-follow chapters show you how to--
--Think through your strategies and balance your enthusiasm with facts
--Capture and hold the interest of potential lenders and investors
--Understand and develop your own financial statements
--Recognize the unique selling advantage of your products or services
--Avoid potentially disastrous errors like undercapitalization and negative cash flow

              Also included in this book--
--A glossary of planning and financial terms
              --A complete sample business plan

1 out of 5 stars My boss threw it out the window.......2007-09-27

I am a recent college graduate who now works full time for a startup consultant. I had to write a small business plan and since it was my first time my boss suggested I buy some books. I bought a few. My boss has written many business plans so he knows what to look for. Long story short, he threw it out the window. This book could have made me dumber.

5 out of 5 stars A section-by-section analysis of how to create a business plan.......2005-11-05

Here's a section-by-section analysis of how to create a business plan, from developing a management team and making financial projections and setting goals to promoting a product or service, understanding economic cycles and industry influences, and assessing competition. Add over a hundred 'success questions' and three sample business plans to the discussion and you have a template for success.

1 out of 5 stars Just get Business Plan Pro, instead.......2001-03-21

This book might have helped SOMEONE write a business plan, but it contained only one idea of any interest for me. The authors mention that there is good software on the market to help first-time business plan writers, and they are absolutely correct! The book is a real let-down compared to Business Plan Pro. Your First Business Plan offers over half of its pages as a sample business plan for a company that is: a) NOT a start up (I think a great majority of people writing their FIRST business plan are concerned with start-up information), and

              b) NOT a service business (many more businesses provide services than actual products)

So, all in all, this book didn't help me much other than the great advice to go out and buy a good business plan program. So, I pass this advice on to you - free of charge. No reason to pay book prices plus tax and shipping for it!

5 out of 5 stars It gives you all you need to build an excelent Business Plan.......2000-06-29

For anyone considering venturing into the unknown waters of starting or managing a business, having a voice of experience at hand can mean the difference between a safe journey and shipwreck. Too many new ventures start with neither compass nor map—highly inadvisable in such an important undertaking. New and existing businesses alike need tools for business analysis, financial forecasting, and budgeting guidelines to grow and prosper.

Although these terms sound technical, the practical, proven, and real-life advice offered in this all-new ninth edition of The Business Planning Guide makes the jargon come alive. If you are an entrepreneur or manager wanting to launch and grow your venture on more solid financial footing, these are the step-by-step strategies you need to compile a complete business plan and financing proposal.

The Business Planning Guide provides three complete sample business plans and offers expert guidance, including information on how to:

                  • Collect relevant information from inside and outside your company.

                  • Analyze current market conditions as well as your business’s strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities.

                  • Determine the appropriate amount and kinds of financing you will need.

For businesses small or large, for-profit or non-profit, author David H. “Andy” Bangs, Jr., offers his business philosophy: “The thrill comes in making a business grow, serving more customers, trying out new ways to deliver value to them, and watching your employees grow and develop.”
