Book Description
Forensic Document Examination: Principles and Practice is the first textbook written specifically for the study of questioned document analysis. The text comprehensively reviews document examination, with specific attention to handwriting identification and forgery detection. Fundamental principles and techniques of document examination are presented throughout in a concise, straightforward manner. Specific concepts attended to include the factors that affect handwriting; the characteristics of handwriting; the guidelines for determining the authenticity or spuriousness of handwriting; and the proper methods for examining a case from start to finish. For the first time, criminal justice students and others requiring an introduction to document analysis will have a resource to consult that outlines the proper method for analyzing handwriting and a detailed procedure for preparing a document case.
In addition to its utility as a textbook for document analysis, Forensic Document Examination: Principles and Practice will be an invaluable resource for professionals in fields where interaction with document examiners is commonplace. Police officers, private investigators, and attorneys will all benefit from a basic understanding of document examination and what is required for a document examiner to complete an assignment.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent resource.......2004-12-28
This book contains just the right mix of theory and practical "how-to-do-it". Overall, it's an excellent work.
Doug: You brought your average star-rating down!!.......2004-02-23
To Doug Wieringa,
You added a message to these customer reviews with a very helpful summary of the back-cover contents.
However, because you didn't assign a star-rating to the book, Amazon recorded your review as 0 stars.
This brought the average star-rating down to a really low level. When I first saw the average rating for your book, I thought this meant that the majority of reviewers wrote negative reviews. But this is not the case at all!!
Maybe you can either retract your own review or add some with 5 stars. That's what I just did...
great resource for basic and complicated procedures.......2003-04-02
I love this book. Packed full of info, it's a great reference. Starts with basic info like planning and testing; writing info like syntax, vocabulary, level of detail. Has lots of good format/style info. Writing complex steps section includes conditional statements, logic tables, flow charts, and more.
The writers take their own advice and use simple, direct language that makes it easy to soak in the info.
I'm a technical writer for telephony and high-speed network deployment, where details count. I still refer to this when I get stuck on a procedure. A friend borrowed the book to help her write procedures for the corporate mailroom she manages. I had a hard time getting it back from her.
Excellent Reference!.......2000-05-08
I have spent a good part of my career focused on communicating procedures accurately, and teaching others to write good procedures. Wieringa, et al have produced an exceptional roadmap. I use it; I've encouraged lots of other people to use it. This is outstanding work. I highly recommend it.
What detail level are you writing your procedures?.......2000-03-12
I found this book to be written for someone that is at a very detailed level of writing procedures. If you are just writing general department procedures this book may not be for you.

Customer Reviews:
Incorporating your Business for Dummies.......2006-03-18
The book gave a good review of the different types of Incorporation. The type that might be best for any business desired with different requirements and tax advantages of each type. Whether one has partners makes a difference in type needed or whether one wants to sell stock in their company or not.
For a primer it is good but one needs a more in depth knowledge or a tax expert to really get more out of the type of incorporation wanted.
Good as a starter, but you will need more........2004-03-07
Inc for Dummies is not just for dummies, it is a good book on How To Incorporate, but you will need more.
Some additional books icnlude How To Incorporate: A Handbook for Entrpreneurs and Professionals by Michael R. Diamond. How To Incorporate in Any State: Everything You Need to Form a Corporation by W. Dean Brown. S- Corporations by Robert Cooke.
Form Your Own Corporation and Launch a Business in Any State and The Small Business Kit by J.W. Dicks.
Use the dummies book as a starter guide. Use the other books for the real meaty information. Be careful what you buy, the marketplace is proliferated with books by self proclaimed experts who read a lot but have no real world experience.
just the tip of the iceberg.......2004-02-27
In order to maintain the legal status of your corporation, you need to pass very specific resolutions and keep very specific records. I had hoped for a "cookbook" for the legal steps required to set up and operate my corporation, but this is not it.
The info on corporate structures is very basic and general - you could easily find this level of detail on the web. That's my primary complaint with this book... it mentions what you must do, but doesn't give you the specifics of how.
Instead of this book, I recommend you:
(1) Get the *basics* from your lawyer or accountant (or even doing some research on the web)
(2) buy The Corporate Minutes Book by Anothony Mancuso instead of this book!
Good book for those contemplating a corporation.......2004-02-23
If you are contemplating starting a business and therefore a corporation, this book is a great first start. As with all of the dummy series books, the authors feel that people reading these books are brand new and know nothing. So this gives even the most naive a good start on how to incorporate.
So much of the information is basic and since the book was written awhile ago, some of the material may be dated. Nonetheless, good first start for business people.
Other good books include How To Start a S-Corporation by Robert Cooke and Brilliant Deductions by Wade Cook. The latter shows a way to drop out of the social security system and offers a good section on Nevada Corporations.
Okay, but not enough meat.......2003-12-01
I thought that this book was an okay read but left some very important information out especially regarding S-Corporations.
The best book I have found on S-Corporations is How to Form a S-Corporation by Robert Cooke.

Customer Reviews:
weLEAD Book Review by the Editor of leadingtoday.org.......2006-10-19
Author Jay Rifenbary is a former West Point cadet, sales professional and corporate manager. As a professional speaker, consultant and president of a training and development center, he has a powerful message for readers of this book. Stop making excuses and begin to accept responsibility for everything you do. No Excuse! is enjoyable to read because of the raw energy and enthusiasm that it imparts. Rifenbary writes well and provides his personal philosophies to help the reader discover their ability to achieve success and fulfillment. His philosophy is a variant of servant leadership principles including the deep desire to serve others, accountability and valuing people more than wealth or power.
No Excuse! begins with one of the most dramatic prologues I have ever read. It not only introduces the book extremely well, but the author returns to his "special experience" in the epilogue also. The underpinning of his philosophy is borrowed from his days at West Point when "No Excuse, Sir" was one of the few answers a plebe was allowed to utter as a response to an upperclassman. Rifenbary exclaims, "We may get down on ourselves and use certain excuses to relinquish responsibility. That's exactly what excuses are used for; to avoid doing something or to "pass-the-buck". I dare you to make a list. Then when you hear yourself or others making an excuse, simply say, "No Excuse!''"
The book is divided into 2 parts comprised of 14 chapters. Part 1 lays the foundation of the author's no excuse philosophy with a discussion of the principles of self-responsibility, purpose and integrity. He considers this an important preparation for what he coins the Staircase-of-Success or THESAURUS factor presented in Part 2 of the book. Rifenbary takes each letter in the word THESAURUS and uses it as a step to teach an important point or principle. A total of 9 steps take the reader up the Staircase-of-Success. For example, the first step is "Totally Forgive" (Chapter 5) and it ponders the liberating influence that complete forgiveness allows when we forgive others and ourselves of faults and transgressions. When someone embraces total forgiveness there is no longer room for complaining or blaming because the person takes charge, and gains greater control over their life. No Excuse! is not simply a book to read, but it employs many tools to stimulate thought and action from the reader. Rifenbary uses many parables or stories to highlight his points. He also provides an Action Plan at the end of most chapters along with some charts and his own personality indicator.
No Excuse! is an enjoyable book to read. It may not break new ground or provide a radical new leadership philosophy, but it is certainly encouraging to read. As a result of Rifenbary's gift of clarity and printed energy, you will believe and know that change is possible in your life. If you are interested in discovering servant leadership principles presented in a dynamic and motivational book, you have no excuse... you will want to read this book.
Heavy on the military references but a good book.......2003-03-21
nevertheless. I found myself unable to relate to a lot of the military examples but the lessons taught are powerful. Good book but I think my husband would enjoy it more then I.
Now, more than ever!.......2001-09-18
Jay's message needs to be heard and read by everyone, NO EXCUSE! I wish he would write another -- there MUST be more he has to say!
A MUST READ FOR FAMILIES AND PROFESSIONALS.......2000-07-26
After seeing Jay Rifenbary at a recent conference in Newport Beach, and crying through the entire speech, I purchased the book. This is the most exceptional man and he will change your life by the words in this book. I no longer will live my life with excuses for every bad moment and blame everyone else for what I alone created. This is a must read for professionals and families. No Excuse! Buy this book!
Awesome-should be required reading for teenagers!.......1999-05-15
This is a book with solid ideas, ideas that have worked for others and will work for you. If your into self-betterment, Read This Book, it is the only one you'll need. I've read it once and I'm reading it again.
