For those looking for the intuition behind econometrics, this textbook delivers. Not that there isn't any math, it is just that the understanding the theory is the priority. Obviously, a lot of work went into the refining the presentation, therefore we cannot begrudge the authour the rewards for his efforts.

This book gives a good overview of some of the commands one would need to do regression analysis with STATA. I needed something to give me a quick intro to STATA and this book has helped me a lot. Howver, just like MS Excel, STATA has tons of commands that I probably will never touch!

This book is intended for use in a rigorous introductory PhD level course in econometrics, or in a field course in econometric theory. It covers the measure-theoretical foundation of probability theory, the multivariate normal distribution with its application to classical linear regression analysis, various laws of large numbers, central limit theorems and related results for independent random variables as well as for stationary time series, with applications to asymptotic inference of M-estimators, and maximum likelihood theory. Some chapters have their own appendices containing the more advanced topics and/or difficult proofs. Moreover, there are three appendices with material that is supposed to be known. Appendix I contains a comprehensive review of linear algebra, including all the proofs. Appendix II reviews a variety of mathematical topics and concepts that are used throughout the main text, and Appendix III reviews complex analysis. Therefore, this book is uniquely self-contained.

I'm taking an intro to Bayesian stats class and we are using the Carlin & Louis book -- it is a POS.
I found this book in the library and it is much better. It gives very clear explanations of the ideas, and lots of concrete worked examples. Props to the author.

If you are looking for a book for Bayesian estimation, this is the one. The first several chapters say it all about Bayesian methods. The rest of the book is applications. Very helpful reading for learning the method.

This book presents modern developments in time series econometrics that are applied to macroeconomic and financial time series. It attempts to bridge the gap between methods and realistic applications. This book contains the most important approaches to analyse time series which may be stationary or nonstationary. Modelling and forecasting univariate time series is the starting point. For multiple stationary time series Granger causality tests and vector autoregressive models are presented. For real applied work the modelling of nonstationary uni- or multivariate time series is most important. Therefore, unit root and cointegration analysis as well as vector error correction models play a central part. Modelling volatilities of financial time series with autoregressive conditional heteroskedastic models is also treated.

Excellent book for starter in Econometrics.......1998-02-20
Highly recommended to those study in UK! With concise explanation, helpful examples of Microfit printout, it illustrates the concept of econometric clearly. I especially recommended the chapters related to violation of assumptions of BLUE. It's best for courses with Microfit as their application software cause it explains the Microfit printout very clearly
It is available in UK bookshops though not available on Amazon.

As a post graduate student facing an econometrics course for the first time I found this book to be invaluable. I found the delivery of material particularly in the `modern' topics to be much more accessible than in either Gujarati or Enders. Some knowledge of statistics and some elements of mathematics are required, but as I quickly learned, any text on econometrics at this level requires these skills. Some authors try to overcome this hurdle by including reviews of statistics and matrix algebra either in an appendix or in an introductory chapter. Watson & Teelucksingh do not do this. They present any required techniques in the body of the text . While for me in a few instances the necessary skills required reference to introductory statistics texts, I found this to be more convenient than the summaries that are found in the appendices or introductions of other econometrics texts. After all, such summaries are typically attempts to fit elegant theoretical constructs into a few bullet points. My recommendation to the post-grad student to whom econometrics is new is to use this text and where necessary support it with whatever statistics text you were comfortable with at undergrad level.

the book is simple and makes the tough parts of econometrics understandable.however some core background topics are lacking... statistical depth for persons without a solid background in statistics. such is found in other texts(see jonston, gujurati, koutsoyannis, intrilligator).furthermore the book assumes prior knowledge of matrices,hence those without a solid background herein,at left at a loss.

I was worried about how my writing was coming across at work. (It's been a long time since grammar and spelling classes!) A recent promotion meant more corporate visability and more cc's on my e-mails. I needed a quick reference tool to help me as I went about my business correspondence. In addition to nailing down the basic rules, this book helped me with formats, usage, style, and all the little things that transform good writing into compelling material. I got rid of extra words and learned to get to the point. My point here is simple: Buy this book and look better in writing!

I bought this book for my daughter. She is in the college application process, and the student essay was really stressing her out. (There is so much hype and conflicting information from school, guidance, and the other kids!) The information in this book was perfect -- it's not essays to copy, but a true "how-to" on writing winning essays, step-by-step. The examples are clear and totally geared to the student-reader. The advice is practical and easy to follow -- right down to the steps for submitting the application online. A real bargain!!

Excellent! Long overdue. Culinary Art Schools are rolling out baby chefs in record numbers and although they may have the culinary knowledge, only time and experience will give them the managerment skill needed to operate a first rate, organized, efficient and effective restaurant. Management is tough in any field, but particularly so in the restaurant business and I hope Chef/Owner Managers will read and apply the management practices discussed in this book. Chef Mangers who did not have the opportunity to get formal culinary training may also find this book useful. The information on Total Quality Management could and perhaps should have been a separate book. Simply written, The Chef Manager deserves two thumbs up.

A Salad of Fundamentals.......2003-03-10
This book is chock full of ideas and tips that have been around for a long time. This knowledge, that everyone SHOULD have already, is packed into pages full of success tips, anecdotes, timesaving tips and things to remember. Each of those categories has its own icon, with the tip appearing in bold-face type. The result of this design is that the book is difficult to read from a flow perspective. The presentation makes the reader jump from one category to another then back to the basic text that was interrupted.
And there's no listing of all the success tips or all the timesaving tips to give the reader this kind of value all in one place. Many of the anecdotes are short paragraphs about a minor life experience, presented without embellishment or a real tie to the text other than commentary. The book does have an index, but more could have been done to consolidate the highlights.
Mayer is also the author of four books on how to use the ACT! contact management software developed by Symantec. A significant part of this book is consumed with suggestions about how to use that program to be more organized and productive. The reader might get the feeling that this is yet another book on ACT! with some fundamentals of time and life management wrapped around it.
You'll find tips on time management, networking, conversation, master planning, and more. If you're just beginning life in the business world, you'll probably find this book quite helpful. If you've been around for a while, you'll pick up a few tips but may become bored with the simplicity and the continual shallow presentation of multiple tips to be a success at whatever you do.
In spite of the organization, it's all mixed up together like a tossed salad. Pick out the stuff you want to eat and leave the anchovies.

The book is a guide to keep business people focus on their objectives and what really matter - meaning business. It has helped me getting organized and being incredibly more efficient. You start by getting rid of the garbage on your desk then you learn how to prioritize your activity (do the hard work first). Some of those things seems straighforward but don't just read, practice and you will live the difference.
The journey to business success or life success is merciless but with organisation and focus you should be able to get over many hurdles.

Many "success" books that I've read focus too much on philisophical changes or elaborate systems that the average person, like myself, have neither the time, nor patience, to implement effectively. In "Success is a Journey", Jeffrey Mayer gives you practical advise that you can put to work right away. A lot of the advice is familiar: set goals, keep a prioritized task list, maintain a good network of contacts. However, the book shows you how to do these things very easily, without having to adopt a cumbersome process. A lot of the advice just shows you easy ways to improve on the things you are probably already doing. I just finished the book, but already have put to use at least 5-6 of the suggestions which are already having a positive impact on my productivity. I strongly reccommend this book for anyone who wants to get a bit more organized and effective without redesigning their whole life.

Jeffrey Mayer has followed his own advice and become an expert on success through his own journey. He discusses specific tools such as ACT!that can be used to help structure one's path to success. I like his advice to work on important and sometimes hardest tasks first, that propel you forward to success.
