Rethinking Bank Regulation: Till Angels Govern
James R. Barth , Gerard Caprio , and Ross Levine Manufacturer: Cambridge University Press ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover Similar Items:
ASIN: 0521855764 |
Book Description
This volume assembles and presents a new database on bank regulation in over 150 countries (included also on CD). It offers the first comprehensive cross-country assessment of the impact of bank regulation on the operation of banks, and assesses the validity of the Basel Committee’s influential approach to bank regulation. The treatment also provides an empirical evaluation of the historic debate about the proper role of government in the economy by studying bank regulation and analyzes the role of politics in determining regulatory approaches to banking. The data also indicate that restrictions on the entry of new banks, government ownership of banks, and restrictions on bank activities hurt banking system performance. The authors find that domestic political factors shape both regulations and their effectiveness.

The Prudential Regulation of Banks
Mathias Dewatripont , and Jean Tirole Manufacturer: The MIT Press ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover Similar Items: ASIN: 0262041464 |
Book Description
The Prudential Regulation of Banks applies modern economic theory to prudential regulation of financial intermediaries. Dewatripont and Tirole tackle the key problem of providing the right incentives to management in banks by looking at how external intervention by claimholders (holders of equity or debt) affects managerial incentives and how that intervention might ideally be implemented. Their primary focus is the regulation of commercial banks and S&Ls, but many of the implications of their theory are also valid for other intermediaries such as insurance companies, pension funds, and securities funds.Customer Reviews:

BizTalk Server 2000 Developer's Guide: Intergrating Internet Business Solutions
Scott Roberts Manufacturer: SYNGRESS ProductGroup: Book Binding: Digital ASIN: B00006929K Release Date: 2006-04-06 |
Amazon.com
The centerpiece of Microsoft's .NET initiative, BizTalk Server 2000 aims to solve one of the perennial bugbears of the corporate programmer. By the judicious application of XML messaging (under the Simple Object Access Protocol--SOAP), BizTalk Server allows companies to exchange business documents (price quotes, purchase orders, defect notices, and that kind of thing) with minimal human interaction. BizTalk Server 2000: Developer's Guide for .NET shows how to use BizTalk Server, bringing plenty of step-by-step procedures to bear on a product that's unfamiliar to many. Though there's not a lot of discussion of the sort of code you'd write for BizTalk Server interaction in Visual Studio .NET, this book includes coverage of writing functoids and codifying business processes in Visio.Developers will find this book useful in getting up to speed on BizTalk Server terminology and conventions, and in rigging up laboratory systems for experimentation and trials. Consultants will appreciate the authors' advice on mapping real-world business processes to the BizTalk environment. It's administrators, however, who, despite the book's title, will benefit from it most. They'll find explicit advice on setting up BizTalk Server, connecting it with SQL Server, and adjusting its configuration. Stepped procedures make it very clear what needs to be done in various situations. --David Wall
Topics covered: How to install Microsoft BizTalk Server 2000 and make it serve as an XML message broker for an organization. Installation is covered (in situations in which the underlying SQL Server already exists, as well as in situations in which the database server is installed simultaneously), setting up channels and ports, setting up and maintaining XLANG schedules, and troubleshooting problems.

Handbook of Entrepreneurship Research: Disciplinary Perspectives (International Handbook Series on Entrepreneurship)
Manufacturer: Springer ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover Similar Items:
ASIN: 038723621X |
Book Description
The Handbook of Entrepreneurship Research: Disciplinary Perspectives strives to increase awareness and stimulate research in numerous important topics in the field, particularly those underdeveloped areas of study with more relevance to scholarship and theory than to the practice of entrepreneurship. For example, less research has focused on the importance of the macroeconomic environment to firm founding, on social and kinship ties as sources of entrepreneurial activity, and the interaction between institutions and entrepreneurship. We do so by drawing attention to the relevant research in the disciplines of economics and sociology. This volume of the Handbook hopes to begin to bridge the gap between the research in entrepreneurship and the core disciplines by introducing views of entrepreneurship from disciplinary perspectives. As such, this volume of the Handbook is intended to complement and build on the first volume by focusing on a select set of issues and examining them in an in-depth manner.

Entrepreneurship in Latin America: Perspectives on Education and Innovation
Manufacturer: Praeger Publishers ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 0275980405 |
Book Description
Entrepreneurship drives growth in any economy. It is about combining people with good ideas, vision, and courage, who risk their own capital-and their investors'-to develop new products and services. It is about innovation, technology development, and wealth creation. As a field of research and education it is relatively new, and in the case of Latin America, full of promise. Studies undertaken by Babson College, one of the world's premier centers of entrepreneurship, show that Latin America is a hotbed of new business creation, but largely without the educational or institutional infrastructure to support it. This volume, the first of its kind, documents the initial state of the art in Latin American entrepreneurship--in practice, research, and education. Featuring contributions from local experts, the book explores a wide range of issues, including startups, venture capital and angel financing, technology "incubators," family businesses, and management and gender issues, against the backdrop of innovations in education and government policies designed to develop entrepreneurial skills and promote economic growth through new business creation.Books:
