Book Description
This book covers traffic tickets from A to Z. It begins with ways to avoid getting a ticket and ends with an excellent tip on how to ask the judge to make his guilty or not guilty decision in the privacy of his chambers away from the watchful eyes of waiting traffic officers and the other defendants in the courtroom.
Mr. Leiding has taken large blocks of important information and concentrated it into very concise and useful tips. Each one is easy to understand and remember. The tips on how to prepare for a traffic hearing are especially helpful. The appendix is very informative and gives a good overview of how and why to ask the officer certain types of questions. Thankfully this book does not contain complicated technical information that only works some of the time or in specific circumstances. Each tip is designed to be used by everyone in all different types of situations.
Customer Reviews:
If you must have a day in court, make it a good one!.......2004-07-13
Reading this book and following the steps gave me a VICTORY on my day in court. This book, a great list of questions for the officer about my particular infraction (from the web), and the vehicle codes, were the only materials I used. I felt comfortable presenting my case and beating the wrap. It was awesome. The judge said he believed that I was indeed driving safely that day, "case dismissed". And I now *know* that I was truly not guilty. Using what I learned, I also assisted my mother in getting out of a Jaywalking ticket! I definitely recommend it for it's straightforwardness and simplicity and it's thoroughness.
A SO-SO Book........2002-03-22
This book is not too bad. It is full of great tips and tactics. But alot of it is common sense. If you really want to beat a speeding ticket and want to learn all about the equipment the police use to nail you, I suggest you buy the book called The Educated Guide to Speeding Tickets by Richard Wallace. He is an ex cop and who knows more about radar, speeding tickets than a cop. He has written a great book. His book helped me beat 2 speeding tickets so far. You can buy it right here at Amazon.
Not Bad.......2001-08-22
The author suggests a lot of common sense ideas on how to deal with police officers and with the court, such as being polite to the police officer no matter how rude or how evil thier tactics were to catch you. It also gives some really good suggestions on what to say and what not to say to the officer or in court. I can't say it works cuz since I bought the book, I've also bought a radar detector and that has saved me more than the book. Simplicity and the ideas written in this book are the basis of my rating.
Outstanding, and very handy book!.......1999-11-25
Anyone that doesn't have this book has to purchace it. Being a teenager out on the road, it seems like the police target us. After reading this book, I knew I would be able to work my way around those stupid traffic tickets. Trust me...this book is worth it!
Good general suggestions most are common sense........1999-05-04
I purchased this book after receiving a ticket and deciding to fight it in court. I was looking for some information about RADAR and court room procedures. The book has good general suggestions and is informative in that regard. As far as court room procedure and how to subpeona information and rules of discovery it has none. I don't have time to go to Law School before my court date so I need some quick information on the how to's. This book is short on those. If you need to know how to act in front of a cop that just stopped you, buy this book. If you need to know how to actually fight your ticket, subpeona evidence, create your defense and win in court check out the other suggestions.
Book Description
This unique book is worth a second set of hands. It offers solo builders and do-it-yourselfers proven tips, techniques, and shortcuts for careful, precise, and safe construction.
There are many times when a helper would make a job easier, and in some cases doable at all, but with John Carroll's clever, expert tips, there's no need to wait for help. This book, the only one of its kind, offers ways to get by with not only one pair of hands but to work more efficiently as well. A perfect example is the problem of bringing a large sheet of plywood up a ladder. Even with a helper this is a difficult and dangerous task. But if a large C-clamp is fastened to one end of the plywood, it's easy to pull the sheet up the ladder from behind.
Professional builders and contractors who work alone or in small crews will find this book full of invaluable ways to keep the work moving, without costly delays or the need to hire additional helpers. Homeowners, who are often faced with working alone, will use these clever techniques to solve common problems safely.

Want to save time and frustration? The Practical Advice In This Book Will Show the Way.......2007-08-08
I just sold a used copy of this book on Amazon as a favor for a friend. Before I shipped it out, I decided to read it. Because of time, I had to skim parts of it, but I found this book full of excellent insights and ideas for tackling home building or renovation--and I scanned off several pages to save for my own personal use before packing it.
The book contains lots of practical advice for how to approach several different kinds of basic construction tasks. It also contains plans for some excellent tools that can be built with scrap from the construction site. Besides all this, the author gives some excellent suggestions for approaches or tools that are contrary to that used by the average person--and I can see how these alternate suggestions could really save time and frustration to anyone who takes his advice. I highly recommend this book.
I worked in the construction biz for a couple of years and a significant part of that time I was a one-man team (besides numerous personal projects), so I know the some of the challenges. More importantly, I have a dream to build my own home in a few years and I will probably have to buy another copy of this book before that time comes!
Make your work EASIER.......2007-06-14
This book is full of useful tips that can help even veteran carpenters become more efficient and productive. Along with John's other bookMeasuring, Marking, and Layout: A Builder's Guide it will provide you with simple techniques that just make the job go smoother and easier. A must read, for the apprentice on the job site.
Working Alone Review.......2007-06-08
"Working Alone" provides some very interesting and completely workable ideas for completing a project alone. It not only provided complete details of the process recommended, but also points out key planning steps prior to using the tip. It was worth the price.
some very handy hints.......2007-05-12
Even tho' I've worked alone on several projects I learned somethings from this book. A good buy.
Good stuff needed more.......2007-04-06
John Carroll's book working alone was a bit of a dissapointment in that I was expecting perhaps too much. When it arived I was expecting it to be a full sized book but instead it was a rather small 5 3/4" x 8 3/4" sized 148 page book. I personally thought that His other book Measuring, Marking & Layout was a better buy. If you work alone the tips and hints in this book could save you a lot of time & frustration.

The best business plan guide I've seen.......2006-02-14
Everybody says you must have a business plan, but everything I ever saw on writing one was a little over my head and confusing. Terri WALKS you through the process of writing your business plan. By the time you get done with her process, you're excited to start! She's very clear and down-to-earth, you don't get corporatese language thrown at you. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is new to the business world, but wants to get started.
Realistic, readable, helpful, and valuable book.......2000-04-21
It's so refreshing to read a business book with real substance. So many books published in the last years introduce or exploit a new buzzword, have three pages of interesting content, and then go on for another 300 pages of filler. As a result, I've become reluctant to read business books published recently.
But 'Working Solo' goes beyond buzzwords. Over the next few years Terri Lonier's book and her ideas will be an extremely valuable resource in efforts of many people searching freedom and financial success with their own home business.
This book is a gem. Going solo--in a company with your home PC--has never been such an attractive workplace option as it is right now. Computers plus communications creating a new fruitfull environment for personal business of every men/women. 'Working Solo' is the perfect guide for the new breed of entrepreneurs who will create the new products, markets, and services for the 21st century.
Thank you for the new path to the personal freedom and success, Terri!
Great book for budding entrepeneurs and then some!.......1998-07-05
WORKING SOLO is great! Budding entrepeneurs take note! Terri Lonier has compiled, written and devoted herself to the new business owner's lack of knowledge of BUSINESS by doing the work of several people at once. If you need resources and help with your vision statement or business plan get WORKING SOLO. All you need is here to be read and digested, then acted upon. She does more by including two appendixes for more resources. And, check out the last chapter: THE FUTURE IS HERE. This is not a magic "solve your life problems by going into business book". It's real, vibrant and helpful. Get it!

Product Description
Clearly written and experience-based, this quirky book overflows with practical insights, and is a must read for anyone taking a first step in starting a solo business. Part roadmap, part inspiration and laced with wit and authenticity throughout, Katz shares his own story as a first-time, mid-life, solo professional.
Customer Reviews:
Thinking of leaving your job, or you have recently joined the ranks of solo professional, this book is a must for you.......2007-10-07
Michael Katz, in his book "It Sure Beats Working: 29 Quirky Stories and Practical Business Lessons for the First-time, Mid-Life, Solo Professional", made me feel as if I was involved in a personal conversation with the author through his journey towards becoming a solo professional. While reading, I laughed and shook my head in affirmation while Katz recounted stories which included starting a business, and the lessons he learned while growing his business. Katz candidly divulges his true feelings and experiences, while letting the reader learn from his trials and successes.
Michael began his adult life as most of us do, graduating collage and working for a large corporation. As many working professionals can relate, he discovered working in a large company was not his true direction in life. If you are stuck in a cubicle hard at work and are trying to avoid the political drama at work, you will share his angst when he speaks of attending unproductive meetings and his yearning to leave a boring job.
Katz attained his goal of leaving his "secure" job with a large company and striking out on his own. If you are thinking of leaving your job, or you have recently joined the ranks of solo professional, this book is a must for you. The greatest benefit to the reader is the authors ability to candidly tell us his experience, and make the reader realize he is not alone in his struggle to make it in the world as a solo professional.
Since I am also a mid-life individual who changed course in his professional life, I felt as if he was speaking directly to me, although I can't relate to his struggle with baldness. My hair is all there, but has turned gray.
The chapter I enjoy most is entitled "Become a Leading Expert in Something". Michael Katz is an expert in development of electronic newsletters, and one day found himself with a client who was a life coach. This life coach had lived the majority of her life with chronic illness, but had not capitalized on her uniqueness in raising a family and building a successful career while battling this illness. Michael while consulting with the life coach on a newsletter was able to refocus her efforts and declare her new expertise. Now the life coach can be defined as an expert in the field of thriving in the workplace while having a chronic illness.
If you are on the fence thinking of starting your own business you will enjoy his "10 Really Good Reasons to Quit Your Job and Start Your Own Business". Some of the top ten reasons I enjoyed include: dancing to your own music, never having to retire, and finding your purpose.
This book is typical Michael Katz, funny, informative, and a great read. Although his book focuses on the solo professional, much of his advice transcends the sol proprietor and is good advice in being successful in both your personal and business life.
Ranked #1 by SocialMaturity.com's Book Club.......2007-09-23
As a subscriber to the Blue Penguin Development Newsletter for years, I've long been a fan of Michael Katz's writing. When I got a note from Michael that he had written a book, I ran over to Amazon (well not really, more like walked, actually just clicked a couple of buttons but you get the point)to get my copy.
As a retired professional who started a solo business after retirement and as founder and owner of SocialMaturity I'm always interested in information that will give boomers and beyond insight into starting a business on their own and retirees an easier transition into retirement. Because so many of us start second careers, I found Michael's book to be a "must read."
His engaging wit and his easy writing style made each chapter/"quirky" story a valuable lesson for those of any age who are starting a solo business.
"It Sure Beats Working" is highly recommended for anyone, young or old, who is starting a solo business.
Bubby and Zadie would be proud.......2007-09-11
If you haven't eaten all day and have but $12.99 in your name, buy this book and you will never go hungry again.
What, you thought I would suggest buying chopped liver and herring at Zabar's?
Seriously, assuming I can be serious, well, at least relatively serious, buy a bagel, buy this book, and then read it while you have a nosh.
Welcome relief.......2007-09-11
When this book first arrived in the post I never intended to read it right away (too busy working as a solo professional!) So I just dipped into it and read one or two of the stories.
Then one or two became three or four. And more...
It's humorous. It's motivating. It has practical lessons for your solo future. But most of all, it's a super read. How often can you enjoy an entertaining couple of hours with a book and be helping your career and buisness prospects at the same time?
And writing this review sure beats working!.......2007-09-10
For those of us who are professional advisors (I happen to be a small business lawyer), we have long since learned an important lesson ... it takes a good sense of humor to get us through the tough times. And that's exactly what Michael Katz does for us in his new book, "It Sure Beats Working"...he shares humor (and teaches us how to find it everyday), he imparts practical advice (yes, while laughing, you will actually learn something you can put to work right away), and he generously gives that useful something called life experience. Practical advice...humor...life experiences you will recognize immediately... how can you go wrong?! Answer...you can't, so get your dose today, and put Michael's business lessons into practice tomorrow.
