            Book Description

Helping readers understand the governing economic forces behind our agricultural industry, this jargon-free survey provides a systematic introduction to the basic concepts and issues in economics as they relate to the food and fiber industry - a major segment of the U.S. economy. Covering key economic principles and their application to the food and fiber system, it traces microeconomic, macroeconomic, and global forces influencing the decisions of producers and consumers of food and fiber products, and focuses on the leading problems and issues confronting this important industry today. Contains comprehensive micro coverage with heavy emphasis on interpretation/applications of marginal analysis in decision-making, and comprehensive macro coverage with discussions on the implications that events elsewhere in the economy have upon price of food and producer profits, as well as consumer economic well-being. Considers trade theory and issues facing domestic producers and consumers in light NAFTA and trade liberalization. Now looks at the effect of the 1996 FAIR Act, and presents a new chapter on resource economics.

                    Book Description

This book presents a broad overview of the multifaceted phenomena of innovation networks, which have assumed increasing importance with the emergence of the so-called `knowledge economy'. The topic of innovation networks is analyzed through different lenses, bringing together the theory of self-organization, complexity theory and recent developments in the economic and sociological literature on innovation.

The aim of the book is the integration of these different perspectives in order to develop a common theory of innovation networks. In this respect, a general model of innovation networks is applied to different industrial sectors such as the biotechnology industry, the telecommunications industry, and knowledge-intensive business systems which form the backbone of the internet economy. By combining empirical case studies with theoretical work on the emergence of innovation networks, the authors are able to identify the mechanisms and circumstances which can contribute to their successful development and evaluation.

Innovation Networks is the result of a two year collaboration between academics from a range of different disciplines including theoretical physics, political science, computer science, sociology and economics. As such, it will appeal to students, scholars and researchers in all of these fields as well as business and R&D managers, and policymakers and politicians involved in the promotion of technology policy.

                      Book Description

Exploring emerging artistic responses to a world enveloped by the information networks, in Network Art an international group of leading theorists and artists investigate how the Internet, in the form of websites, mailing lists, installations and performance, has been used by artists to develop artwork which reflects upon the pervasive effects of a technology that has profoundly reordered our social, economic and cultural institutions.
Covering a period from the mid 1990s to the present day, this fascinating text includes key texts by historians and theorists such as Charlie Gere, Josephine Bosma, Tilman Buarmgartel and Sarah Cook, alongside descriptions of important projects by Thomson and Craighead, Lisa Jevbratt and 0100101110101101.org among many others.
Fully illustrated throughout, and including many pictures of artworks never before seen in print, Network Art represents one of the first substantial attempts to place major artist's writings on network art alongside those of critics, curators and historians. In doing so it takes a unique approach, offering the first comprehensive attempt to understand network art practice, rooted in concrete descriptions of the systems and the process required to create it.

                          4 out of 5 stars helpful atlas.......2006-04-01

I bought this at Amazon.com from an Awesome Deal I found on DailyTool.com. I got the book for only $5. This atlas has pictures for plant biology nad animail biology. Since it covers both plant and animal, it doesn't have too much pictures for each topic. But it's still a great atlas. I will keep it after my class is over.

4 out of 5 stars Makes you really remember what things look like.......2004-11-15

I am professor who will recommend this book to my lab students next semester. It is hard to remember what things actually look like from the diagrams in the lab book and this book has excellent photos of what slides and dissections actually look like. I think it will be very useful to all bio lab students.

5 out of 5 stars Lab is over, it is now test time........2001-04-22

Did you decide today was the day you would skip lab because you had another test to study for or somewhere else to be? However, only to return to lab the next week to discover you missed two hours of slides that were going to be on the next exam? This book is your answer. It has the most accurate depictions of exactly what you missed. Biology majors this book is for you!

I'm a Biology Professor. I bring this altas to class when I teach plants and the students love it. It has great colored pictures, lots of labeling and an excellent reference when they look at slides.
