Customer Reviews:
Tower of Babble.......2005-09-12
I thought Silicon Valley was for smart people. A Stanford professor and a retired Cisco executive have managed to write one of the most indecipherable business tombs in recent memory. I was asked to review this book for graduate school and I found it mostly incoherent business babble. "Billiard Ball Management." "Shallowly Rooted Strategic Vectors." "Kinetic Structures Prevail." What kinds of business leaders talk like that today? I often find the best business books package challenging business problems with no non-sense solutions. Save your money. This book is a tower of babble.
Stop the Vanity Presses.......2005-09-11
If Kevin Kennedy leads like he writes, he must have been one of the most mediocre executives at Cisco. This book is a hair-ball of rambling thoughts and jingo-isms and its assertions are neither clear nor connected in any manner that demonstrates business acumen. I suspect this is one of those vanity books that masquerade as a business book. In the alternative, consider leadership books by Jack Welch, Larry Bossidy, and Rudy Guiliani. Whoever edited this book should be sent back to community college to read Strunk & White 'elements of style' on the merits of clear, concise and declarative writing. In this effort, I am afraid the English language was Mr. Kennedy's enemy, not his friend.
not quite there.......2005-07-18
This book is just too long. If it were condensed to sub-100 pages it might be worthwhile as it contains some interesting ideas. Unfortunately most of the examples begin with "Cisco decided to..", "At Cisco we..., "The Cisco method of..." ......you get the idea. The authors cite "Good to Great" which is a real contrast, because the Collins team examines a wide variety of companies and industries rather than simply concentrating on Cisco. The book is also packed with graphics that -- let's face it folks -- are simply meaningless. I do not understand the reason for the other glowing reviews. Mediocre "at best".
Shared Knowledge and Success.......2003-09-30
Kevin Kennedy and Mary Moore have put together a book that is interesting, thought provoking, and extremely knowledgable and comprehensive. Although the book uses high-tech examples, Kennedy successfuly makes a correlation to other industries helping the reader understand the in-depth information. Furthermore, there is a constant focus asking the reader to question their own business adventures. This allows them to gain insight and help improve their own businesses. The knowledge that Kennedy and Moore share is backed by years of experience and success in the business world and should be looked at carefully because it is very valuable.
Insightful.......2003-06-20
Going the Distance is an great guidebook for anyone in management. You'll understand the common traps, how to identify them and how to recover. What I like best is that the authors have years of real life experience in large corporations. They didn't just interview other people about what they have done, Kennedy and Moore have lived it. This is an excellent resource, especially in these economic times.

Allis-Chalmers Tractors.......2001-12-28
I was a bit disappointed in this book. It would seem that these guys had an old A-C day on a farm, then got a camera and decided to take pictures and make a book. There are alot of colorful pictures of reconditioned tractors, but I was looking for a more data based and historical account of A-C.
allis chalmers tractors,enthusiast color series.......2001-08-01
brief narrative, uses same picture over and over, would not reccomend!!!
Orange Tractor Paradise.......2000-08-18
This book covers the whole spectrum of Allis Chalmers farm equipment from the Roto-Baler to the newest four-wheel-drive models introduced before the AGCO takeover. It provides interesting facts about failures of some of the tractors and successes with technological advances that were made by AC. I found it a very fascinating book with wonderful pictures that are the signature of the Enthusiast Color Series.
My only complaint about this book is the way the pictures of the same tractor are repeated again and again at different angles. The captions are written in such a way that the intention of the authors appears to be to make the reader believe they are different tractors. Close inspection shows that they are shots of the same tractor taken on the same day. (For example, the same AC 6-12 is shown on pages 10, 11, and 12).
Allis Chalmers - Pictorial and Explanation.......2000-04-07
I had just purchased an Allis Chalmers Model B with the idea of saving it from the foundry. I needed a book to get an idea of the history of Allis Chalmers and to see where my 'Alice B' fit in the history of A-C. (When I was a youngster, I had driven my uncle's A-C D-17, but a D-17 was too big for my house in town).
The book contains great pictures, a bit of history, and is enjoyable to read.
I would recommend it to anyone interested in a bit of 'Old Iron'.

Anyone who loves Johnnie-Poppers must have this book!.......1999-10-30
Pripps has done it again. A brief but accurate text and snappy photographs make this book an ideal choice for anyone interested in JD tractor history. There are 124 pages of data, JD history and Two-Cylinder history that will give any reader brand new insights into John Deere and their tremendous tractor lines...

Presented in archival photographs and ads, as well as contemporary color photography, this volume presents an inside look at how the tractors were designed and conceived, and discusses the managerial strife that made the New Generation (1960-72) tractors possible. Book Description
John Deere Tractors retraces the early history of the company and its production of these popular models. Far from a simple listing, however, the book is about how the tractors fit into the larger drama of a company, a nation, and a world undergoing tremendous change from 1918 to 1960. From the Waterloo Boy to the 30 Series, each model is described in its historical context, includes information such as production numbers and specifications, and is placed in a unique, artful timeline.

For nearly four decades, International Harvester dominated the farm tractor market with its affordable and wildly popular tractors. Model and design changes are emphasized with nostalgic, period colour photos showcasing Number Series tractors as they appeared in their heyday.

Ken Updike Knows His Cubs!!!.......2002-09-27
Ken Updike has put together a teriffic history of the International Harvester Company's Farmall Cub and Cub Cadet tractors! Complete with serial numbers and great color photos this book is a MUST HAVE for anyone who owns (or would like to own)one of these GREAT little tractors.IH built the Farmall Cub and Cub Cadets in Louisville, KY and it was more the just coinsidence that they had a lot of the same engineering features in common!
Cub luster's take note.......2002-09-25
I had this book recommended to me, because I am looking for a Cub Lo-Boy to mow a few acres of lawn. I didn't know a Cub from a Lo-boy Cub from a Numbered Series Lo-boy. This book lays out the history, as well as the specifications of the different years and series. I also contains serial number listings of each year series and corrolates them to the equipment and specs for that year. I'm well pleased and it has made me much more aware of what to look for as I scour the countryside in search of my new ride! I am not interested in the Cub Cadet portion, but it has a lot of good pictures and covers a couple chapters, so I'm sure you'd find some good info there, as well...
For Cub and Cub Cadet tractor lovers.......2002-09-13
This book provides information for Cub collectors and hobbyists that makes interesting and sometimes fascinating reading. Mr. Updike looks at the Cubs and Cub Cadets from a sentimental perspective that is not available in any other book I have seen. I learned more about my beloved Cub than I expected to. The color pictures alone are worth the price, and leave you lusting for more. Grammar teachers take note: tthe text suffers from cursory editing. It is a little rough in spots.
