Simply Mediocre.......2004-09-21
The question that first came to mind as I read this book was "why on earth did anyone think it was worth publishing?"
To be blunt, ANYONE who has read a couple of books that cover change management, has a reasonable command of the English language, and has collected a few brief anecdotes, could have written this book, or something considerably more useful.
The book is indeed mediocre, not simply because it concentrates on "what" rather than "how", which is certainly what it does do, but also because it is full of idealogically correct instructions that don't actually go anywhere.
I am reminded of a company I once worked for which had exactly the kind of culture which seems to inform this book. The O&R director was forever making all the right noises, and initiated change programme after change programme. He was apparently convinced that he was a world class expert on change management, yet for mysterious reason - well, mysterious to him, all of the programmes just fizzled out after a matter of months. The root of the "mystery" was, in fact, very basic: no-one, including the O&R director, ever got as far as "walking the talk".
This book, likewise, manages the "talk", but somehow never gets as far as the "walk".
The fact is, there are a lot of genuinely important factors involved in initiating a successful change management programme which this book doesn't even hint at. Given its pretty restricted size (112 pages, many of which are only half full, or less) the author would have been better advised to have concentrated on a few genuinely useful pointers rather than wasting time over dozens of superficial observations which have already been made by numerous other "experts", and which are no more use now than they were before.
Managers who like talking about change, but have no real intention of destabilising the status quo, will probably love this book. Those who take change programmes seriously will certainly want and need to look elsewhere for worthwhile guidance.

Book Description
"All life in all worlds" -this was the object of the author's seventeen-year quest for knowledge and discovery, culminating in this book. In a manner unmistakably his own, Murchie delves into the interconnectedness of all life on the planet and of such fields as biology, geology, sociology, mathematics, and physics. He offers us what the poet May Sarton has called "a good book to take to a desert island as sole companion, so rich is it in knowledge and insight."
Customer Reviews:
A unification theory of mystery & existence . . ........2007-04-29
This book is a lyrical synthesis of science, philosophy, and religious traditions that could only be authored by a visionary & poetic personality of the highest caliber. Guy Murchie spent seventeen years pulling this 650 page book together; and the labor of love & dedication really shows through the entire text - his erudition is vast, yet completely accessible.
The Seven Mysteries of Life is structured as a triad: Body, Mind, and the Seven Mysteries. In this non-linear exploration of the fabric of existence, Murchie weaves and interconnects the evolutionary immensity of the universe such that, in the concluding chapter, the purpose of our lives on this earth is convincingly described as a soul-school (a spiritual boot camp I suppose).
Not only does Murchie elaborate on our accumulated knowledge of life, world, and universe; he crystallizes it all into little gems of wisdom. This book might be looked at as if it were a unification theory of mystery and existence; its incredibly comprehensive scope will certainly alter the way you look at the reasons for your existence.
Infinite thanks to Guy Murchie for this vastly generous labor of a lifetime . . .
Extracts: A Field Guide for Iconoclasts
still timely.......2007-01-10
Murchie's grasp of the topics and his fluid writing make this an enjoable adventure into our world and ourselves. A little science, a little philosophy come together to help the reader evaluate his/her place in the cosmos.
For scientists and philosophers.......2006-03-26
My son is a philosophy student at Duke and insisted I read this book. Of course, I resisted diving into a 650 page book, but I have to admit that it was facinating.
As a former science student (zoology and dentistry), we often do a little "recreational arguing," but this book really ties alot of things together.
No, it won't answer all of lifes questions, but it sure will make you think about a lot of coincidences.
Skip around, read the sections that interest you, go back to some chapters.
Great, great book.
Simply Amazing.......2006-03-19
I searched for a book like this one day, and on that day, the first day found this book. And I dont think I could have found a better book in years of searching. Fate brought this book to me.
This book explains the physical and spiritual worlds together as a flowing entity. I have never read a more enticing book about scientific explaination mixed with spiritual exploration.
My life was changed by this book, and I am more than happy by what I learned reading it. The things I'd like to say about this book can not all be described in one review.
One of the greatest books in my library.......2006-02-13
I have a library of about 4000 books and counting, at least half of those in nonfiction. This is one of the best nonfiction books I have. It's been in my collection since the mid-80's. It is extremely easy to read, and every paragraph has something interesting and powerful to say.
Highly recommended.

Debra Excels Again.......2002-04-26
In FOR YOUR HEART ONLY, Debra once again pulls the reader deep into the lives of her characters. While weaving romance and intrigue in just the right balance, Debra tells a story that is hard to let go of when you are finished reading it.
Debra is a master at character development--creating characters with just enough flaws to make them completely human.
All of Debra's novels do more than tell a story. They also show how the characters grow spiritually. I highly recommend FOR YOUR HEART ONLY. It is a real page turner.

er...... ok then.................2004-08-05
alright, if you like books where everyone gets along great and the bad guys never have any feelings or a bit of a chance, then this book is just for you. i only read the first book (i couldn't find it here online), however, but that bored me out of my mind. sure, it had SOME action, but in my oppinion it is really dull, or i just cant see the goodness of this series.
i liked the plot line- seven kids encased while the world blows up- but they were just like power rangers- 'ooh look theres an enemy' 'lets go fight it' *pow* 'oooh im so tired' 'oh no we need back up' *backup comes* *blam pow crash* *enemys die* etc. (im kind of overreacting, but thats the jist of it.)
in my oppinion, morris could have REALLY jazzed up the description and characters to make it a bit interesting. but this is just my oppinion- you can read it for yourself if you like.
Very Exciting.......2003-09-05
This is book 3 in the Seven Sleepers the Lost Chronicles Series. It is about 7 kids that were put in a sleep capsule, while the world was being destroyed. They were awakened by Goel, the master. The kids are helping him fight the Dark Lord. This mission was the hardest because they fought a lot of monsters. Dr. Korbo takes nice animals and makes them mean. The sleepers job is to stop him. Read this book!!!!
Wonderful fantasy book.......2003-07-29
I am a 13-year-old who loves to read. This has to be my favorite 7 sleeper book. It keeps you reading. The 7 sleepers end up on this island with strange mutated creatures. They meet up with a young lady who is trying to take care of these babies for they wre going to be mutilated to. They go on a jounry to get the babies to saftey but along the way the have to fight some evil wierd creatures. It i a wonderful book worth reading and buying.

Great Sci-Fi For All Ages!.......2001-07-02
Another great book by Guilbert Morris. Josh Adams and his friends are again sent on a mission by their leader Goel to help the people of Nuworld. But when they start meeting up with giant, mutated animals in the forest and the evil Dr. Korbo, they aren't so sure Goel knows what he is doing.A thrilling adventure about the Seven Sleepers and how they learn to have faith and trust, even when things aren't going well. I would highly reccommend this book

The line of thought in these meditations is the same as in those given at the Three Hours service in St. Clement's Church, Philadelphia, on Good Friday, 1882, but I had kept so few notes that the meditations are for the most part new. --B.W. Maturin, 1883

Book Description
Although Edith Wharton is usually identified with the "old New York" of such masterworks as The Age of Innocence and The House of Mirth, she spent ten years living and writing in New England, a setting that appears in two novels, a novella, and fully a quarter of her short stories. In these works Wharton turns from portraying the monied and the mannered to probing inscrutable psyches and souls. The New England of these tales-which range from light comedy to horror-becomes a metaphor for fierce poverty, cultural barrenness, and an oppressive Puritan heritage that both fascinated and repelled Wharton.
Thus the frigid, engulfing winter of Starkfield buries Ethan Frome in a living death. That sense of moral and emotional confinement also appears in "The Angel at the Grave," as a young woman senses she has been "walled alive into a tomb hung with the effigies of dead ideas." In "The Lamp of Psyche," a visit to Boston relatives sheds new light on a woman's marriage; "Xingu" gently satirizes the snobbery of small-town "huntresses of erudition"; "Bewitched" and "All Souls'" explore the theme of witchcraft. Barbara A. White's insightful introduction suggests that in these stories Wharton "seems to have projected onto New England aspects of herself that she most feared: repression, coldness, inarticulateness, mental starvation, and even lack of high culture."
