Customer Reviews:
"Entrepreneurial Finance for High-Tech Start-Ups".......2005-04-07
The authors need to learn how to write a real introduction to their subject matter as the 3 1/2 pages in this book is inadequate. The title is also mis-leading in that the material that is really covered well deals with entreprenuerial finance. The rest of the material dealing with 1) innovative idea, 2) core team, 3) business plan, 4) employee recruitment, 5) entrepreneurial law and 6) intellectual property are summarized in five all too brief chapters in part I of this book.
I suggest the authors re-title the book to "Entrepreneurial Finance for High-Tech Start-Ups" as that would accurately reflect the content of the book and that they retain the content of section I, but that they recognize that the material offered is but a short summary and that readers need to be directed to other sources to fill in the gaps.
A resource bibliography needs to be built into each chapter in section I. My suggestions go as follows: 1) John Nesheim's soon to be released book "Unfair Advantage" for the chapter on innovative idea, 2) Nesheim's book on High Tech Start-ups for the chapter on the management team, 3) a number of resources are quite good for the business plan chapter:
Rhonda Abrams's "Six-Week Start-Up"
Rhonda Abrams's "The Successful Business Plan"
Bovee, Thill & Mescon "Excellence in Business"
Cunningham, Nikolai & Bazley "Accounting: Information for Decisions"
Terrell & Terrell "Survey of Accounting: Making Sense of Business"
4) A good set of job descriptions on an industry by industry basis would really help most companies here. I suggest looking at "Labor Market Information: Industry Report Archives" at novaworks.org , 5) Bagley & Dauchy's "The Entrepreneur's Guide to Business Law" and 6) for IP go to the real experts at Nolo Press. "Patents for Beginners", "Nondisclosure Agreements", and "Patent Searching Made Easy".
"From Concept to Wall Street" is a good book when you get to the entrepreneurial finance stage of your start-up, but in the meantime you really need the help from the type of resources that I mentioned earlier. Otherwise you'll probably never make it to that stage.
4 stars for the entrepreneurial finance material (authors are much too condensed in their treatment), 1 star for misleading title and for the lack of pointers to the material you will need in section I. Overall rating of 3 stars.
Comprehensive and Concise.......2003-02-12
as an entrepreneur and VC investor tfor more than 20 years, i higly recoomend the book. extremely useful insights for both roles, which indicate how experienced these authors and their advisors are. the book covers all important aspects of the business, along with useful tips and watch outs known only the most experienced people in this business. By far the best book in its category.
Excellent Overview.......2003-02-12
by far the most comprehensive and concise book on entrepreneurship and venture capital investment. The book takes a rather unique approach of introducing fairly complicated issues in a straighforward fashion. The authors are looking at all aspects of VC investments and businedd development with a 'value investing" approach, something I liked a lot. warning of fads and bubbles and legal pitfalls, they provide excellent insights that only experienced investros and entrepreneurs know
how important they are. As an entrepreneur and VC investor for more than 20 years,I highly recommend the book.

Book Description
The Effective Organization explores the issues and challenges of levering information technology to respond more effectively to client needs and objectives both within a company and a market. Based on examples of successes and failures over the last decade, it provides a forum for discussion within organizations, and between firms and their different business partners.
The authors begin by examining the inherent links between business value, business models, and corporate strategy. They show how IT has progressively influenced our perceptions of value by impacting the practice of management, and propose the Value Matrix ™ as a guide to determining how to best deploy talent, organization, and technology to produce value in a company and a market.
Building on these foundations, they then turn their attention to how current management practice often neglects the goal of business value. As the prescriptions for optimising organizations and technology have reached their limits, they argue, a radically different approach based on effectiveness and business value offers a promising alternative.

Essential information about the causes of male and female homosexuality.......2005-12-04
This is a review of all significant research into the causes of homosexuality, both male and female.
The writers objectively review the scientific studies of gay people and present the findings clearly and in a readable style.
Many interesting questions are asked: What might cause someone to be gay? Does homosexuality run in families? Does childhood behaviour predict adult sexuality?
I recommend this book particularly to gay people. It explains causes of homosexuality and every gay person should have knowledge of this area.
I also recommend this book to anyone who wants to be informed about gay people and sexuality in general. This is an important book that deserves attention and a wide audience.
Book Description
There has long been an assumption in the West that views on sex and sexuality are basically similar worldwide. This has never been the case. Many ancient cultures actively promoted same-sex relationships as an integral part of adolescence or even worship. The rise of Judeo-Christian views forced homosexuality “underground,” leading to Henry VIII’s 1533 ban on homosexuals and Oscar Wilde’s imprisonment for sodomy. Born to be Gay takes a radical look at the history of homosexuality, from Bacchanalian orgies to Gay Pride.

Since the advent of the gay liberation movement in 1969 -- the direct result of the Stonewall Riots in Greenwich Village -- there has been a plethora of writing about the lives of gay men and lesbians. Much of this has been done by people who were already "out" by the mid-1970s.
Generation Q is a collection of essays, memoirs, recollections and thoughts by young people who were just being born in 1969. Ranging from humorous commentary to serious examinations of what it means to be a young gay man in the middle of the AIDS epidemic, this is an important, moving and challenging look at the problems and the pleasures facing young gay people today, for it tells us not only about our youthful presence but our future as well.

Beautifully edited!.......1998-07-09
The most striking thing about this book is the way the voices are so different from each other, so well chosen to complement each other, yet the quality is consistent. An honest and exciting book.
One of the best anthologies I've stumbled upon.......1998-06-10
The best thing about this book is its consistency. So many anthologies--no matter what the subject matter--fall into the same breakdown: one-third brilliant (however one defines it within the context of book's scope and topic: entertaining, enlightening, educational, well-written, etc.); one-third "okay;" and one-third boring drivel (again defined in many ways: droll, mundane, pedantic, boring, etc.). This book makes it's mark nearly all the way through. The diversity of the points of view exposed is enlightening in and of itself. It was just a great read. Also, I guess by definition I'm a Generation Q-er, and it was heartening to find such a pleathora of potential friends and allies out there. I don't buy the whole "family" designation--and at times even "community" seems like a stretch--but this collection of essays made me feel like (here's yet another cliche) "we're everywhere."
an anthology for the queer sesame street generation.......1997-04-09
With all due respect to our elders and the tremendouschallenges they faced living as gender outlaws on the fringes ofsociety before many of us were even born, the time has come for post-Stonewall queer voices to rise up out of the chorus to sing our own songs loudly, proudly, and sometimes off-key. At various times funny, sexy, heartbreaking, and inspiring, the stories assembled in Generation Q affirm that children of the 70s are forging ahead with our own struggles and victories to further enrich the queer legacy. Coming out, gender and culture issues, feminism, alienation, discrimination, race, sex, HIV status, and S/M controversy are just some of the themes tackled. From Erika Kleinman's courageous stand to come out to her parents, community, and entire high school (the last place on earth one wants to be different), to Michael Thomas Ford's glorious gay-boy ode to pop culture ("The Village People, Tiger Beat, and Me"), this anthology showcases a richly diverse blend of well-written and thought-provoking dialogue that will surely strike a chord with 20- and 30-somethings. Highly recommended.

Book Description
Jean Genet: poet-thief, novelist, revolutionary, gay icon. Genet's early life was one of vagrancy and crime. He emerged in 1942 from prison with the extraordinarily subversive novel Our Lady of the Flowers. Championed by Cocteau and Sartre, Genet became a legend to the underworld for his subsequent novels, dark fusions of crime, sex and flowers. In later life he became involved with rebel groups such as the Black Panthers and the PLO.
Born To Lose, poet-novelist
Jeremy Reed's stripped-down, amply illustrated biography of Genet, displays profound empathy for its subject. Reed explores Genet's novels, criminal activities, addiction to sleeping pills, relationships with lovers and rent boys, mercurial friendships, fugitive poetry and the obsession with death that underscores his work.
Customer Reviews:
Fun, Useful Easy Read.......2006-08-04
I enjoyed Zambotti's book. It clearly is not intended as serious research, nor a complete scan of the spectrum of experiences, but a collection of observations drawn over time. I found moments I could identify with, and some I could not. And many moments that caused a chuckle. Because each person's recounting is only a paragraphy or so, it is an easy book to pick up and put down - i.e. read during TV commercials, while on a bus or subway, or even while stuck in rush hour traffic. Thanks, Mr. Z.
More Laughs with Will & Grace.......2002-12-07
I suspect this author writes for the comedy series as most of what he writes here is fairly sterotypical of media presentations of gay men. No one I know ever lived through the delightful, fun times he did. He fails to mention rejection from family and friends, and the other problems of coming out.
Could be a one season sitcom..........2001-10-25
While reading this I felt as though I was watching a stereotypical primetime sitcom about gay men. The author seems to follow the theory that gay men all act the same, like the same things and go through the same experiences but in reality do not. As a gay man, and as a Latino, I and my brothers have not been privy to his experiences. Rather, we usually live in fear, hiding our true feelings and experiences. We do not all go to circuit parties, watch broadway shows, listen to Barbara; rather there are many more varying experiences out there and the author should have looked for others rather than relying on Will & Grace wanna' be's.
Powerful Stories of Childhood Brought back many memories.......2001-10-10
Enjoyable book with powerful stories of childhood that were taken from 11 countries in the Developed Western World including USA, Australia, Czech Republic, Germany, Canada, Mexico, Brasil, New Zealand, Costa Rica, South Africa and many others. This book brought back many memories of growing up. This was a fun comical read and great for a trip or a weekend getaway to laugh and share with friends. Since all the hundreds of stories are from different people they are all humorous and unique. All classes and ethnic backgrounds are included in the book. This was a great book of recollections of memories compiled and illustrated by famed bear-cartoonist Frisch. Screwy and hilarious things they did as children that should have made their eventual sexual identity clear to their parents. This book clearly verifies that gay identity is inborn, not a choice. Whether marching around in Mommy's heels, giving sister's Barbies a new hairstyle or innocently seducing the boy next door, the stories are incredibly funny and reported just as they were remembered.
Very Ethnocentric and Egocentric Perspective on Gay Life!.......2000-08-16
Try again Mr. Z. Although many of us were born gay, it was not as fun and carefree as described. There are other cultures, mine in particular, where it is a moral sin and very dangerous to even think about the feeling you took for granted. Many people, to this day, do not have the luxurary of growing up in an upperclass environment where such things are taken for granted. I think this author just asked his friends some of their cutest stories and combined them all in this book as it is lacking in serious research.
