Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Viewers aware! disappointed!.......2006-10-14

I agree with the review written by John Vantel on July 16, 2005. I am disappointed at this book. I can find much more valuable information at the small "real estate" section of "Personal Finance for Canadians for Dummies" than this whole book. The book has compiled a simple to-do-list for people who will be interested in doing real estate investment. It is an ok job. I think the main purpose for this book is rather to get people sign in for their monthly paid membership program or attend their seminars. Just to be aware.

5 out of 5 stars Must have if you want to buy revenue property in Canada or elsewhere.......2006-08-05

This is an excellent, step by step, clear and consise approach to how to acquire good revenue property. Much like a John Grisham novel, it is hard to put down before you're done! Excellent network supporting the process available to you too.

1 out of 5 stars Warning, FAKE reviews.......2006-06-06

Please be aware that all the 5 star reviews you see below are all probably written by the auther himself. You will notice that all the reviewers have posted within a very short time from each other, most have a common single name, and if you click on their name this is the only review they have written on Amazon.

I have not read the book, but if the publisher/author had to resort to abuse of the Amazon peer review system, then his advice can't be worth taking.

5 out of 5 stars Great book for Canadian real estate investing.......2005-11-27

Don Campbell finally fills in a needed gap in real estate literature. "Real Estate Investing In Canada" is a great book on real estate investing focusing completely on Canada.

Mr. Campbell goes through the basics on real estate investing by telling the story of a new investor. I somewhat liked the approach... only partially because I've done a lot of reading on real estate before and this was a little bit tedious. However I wish I had read this book first and then the other books because this broke down the process really well.

The organization of the book is exceptional and the major points are spelt out. It is also an easy read with a lot of great information, particularly the mortgage binder.

On the downside, the book could have used a little more detail in specific Canadian techniques that an investor can use as well as in structural analysis (major points to look out for). However the book still deserves it's 5 out of 5 stars rating.

5 out of 5 stars Finally ý a book for Canadians that works!.......2005-09-04

After reading a lot of books and taking a lot of courses, this book finally fills the gap. It does it practically and teaches you the basics you need to know to really buy property. No fuss, no muss, just do it using a simple approach. The other guys tell you stuff to sell books, Don tells you stuff to buy properties.

I have purchased several properties using these exact systems.

Thanks Don!

Evolution of Stars and Stellar Populations is a comprehensive presentation of the theory of stellar evolution and its application to the study of stellar populations in galaxies. Taking a unique approach to the subject, this self-contained text introduces first the theory of stellar evolution in a clear and accessible manner, with particular emphasis placed on explaining the evolution with time of observable stellar properties, such as luminosities and surface chemical abundances. This is followed by a detailed presentation and discussion of a broad range of related techniques, that are widely applied by researchers in the field to investigate the formation and evolution of galaxies.

This book will be invaluable for undergraduates and graduate students in astronomy and astrophysics, and will also be of interest to researchers working in the field of Galactic, extragalactic astronomy and cosmology.

                          Book Description

The book reviews recent observations of non-evolved and evolved binary populations in clusters and the field with special emphasis on statistical biases, incompleteness and distribution functions. Different binary types are considered: cataclysmic variables, super-soft X-ray sources, double degenerate binaries, Algol-type binaries, Be binaries, X-ray binaries, and Wolf-Rayet binaries. The observational part ends with a discussion on stellar winds in massive stars, on new results of massive starbursts and on the characteristics and the rates of the different types of supernovae. Population synthesis relies on stellar evolution. Recent results on single star and binary evolution are presented. We then compare theoretical models of population synthesis to observations. Much attention is given at population dynamics, spectral synthesis of starbursts, number synthesis of the binaries and supernova rates discussed in the first part of this book. Finally, the book highlights the possible effects of binaries on galactic chemical evolution.

                              Book Description

We study the properties of star-forming galaxies at redshift z~2, an era in which a substantial fraction of the stellar mass in the universe formed. Using 114 near-IR spectra of the H-alpha and [N II] emission lines and model spectral energy distributions fit to rest-frame UV through IR photometry, we examine the galaxies' star formation properties, dynamical masses and velocity dispersions, spatially resolved kinematics, outflow properties, and metallicities as a function of stellar mass and age. While the stellar masses of the galaxies in our sample vary by a factor of ~500, dynamical masses from H-alpha velocity dispersions and indirect estimates of gas masses imply that the variation of stellar mass is due as much to the evolution of the stellar population and the conversion of gas into stars as to intrinsic differences in the total masses of the galaxies. About 10% of the galaxies are apparently young starbursts with high gas fractions, caught just as they have begun to convert large amounts of gas into stars. Using the [N II]/H-alpha ratio of composite spectra to estimate the average oxygen abundance, we find a monotonic increase in metallicity with stellar mass. From the estimated gas fractions, we conclude that the observed mass-metallicity relation is primarily driven by the increase in metallicity as gas is converted to stars. The picture that emerges is of galaxies with a broad range in stellar population properties, from young galaxies with ages of a few tens of Myr, stellar masses M~10^9 Msun, and metallicities Z~ 1/3 Zsun, to massive objects with M*~10^11 Msun, Z~Zsun, and ages as old as the universe allows. All, however, are rapidly star-forming, power galactic-scale outflows, and have masses in gas and stars of at least ~10^10 Msun, in keeping with their likely role as the progenitors of elliptical galaxies seen today.

                                    Book Description

This book collects the review papers given at a symposium on Stellar Populations hosted by the Space Telescope Science Institute, Baltimore, Maryland in May 1986. The reviewers present a comprehensive summary of our present understanding of stellar populations within galaxies. The material covered includes the initial mass function and star formation histories; the chemical history of galaxies, and their observed evolution as a function of redshift; stellar kinematics; and modelling of synthetic populations. The book is a valuable analysis of the role of stellar populations in determining galactic structure and evolution.

                                      Book Description

Stellar populations, the building blocks of galaxies, are direct tracers of a galaxy’s star formation history, its chemical enrichment and the assembly of galaxies in the Universe. This last decade has witnessed a revolution in our observations of galaxies; with larger telescopes and new instruments allowing us to look deeper in the Universe, and to study nearby galaxies in greater detail. IAU Symposium 241 reports the considerable progress made in recent years in this topic. Theorists, observers, and researchers of resolved and unresolved stellar populations discuss the ingredients of stellar population models and compare them to new data, forcing theorists to develop more refined models and methods to derive the physical parameters of stellar populations. New results from the Milky Way, the Local Group, and nearby and distant galaxies are presented.
