I read this terrific workbook in one sitting - it is very readable, interesting and well-designed. The worksheets are very clear and practical. I can't wait to put the tips and information into practice. I learned a lot and I feel inspired. I know I'll be referring to this book continuously. Major gifts fundraising doesn't seem quite so intimidating now!

The structural and molecular formulas are listed for each chemical along with its Chemical Abstracts Registry Number (CAS RN) and, when available, its number in the Merck Index (Eleventh Edition). This invaluable reference provides the various English and foreign chemical names, trivial names, synonyms, and trade names for each pesticide. A handy chemical name index also presents this information in a readily accessible format. The pesticide's physical properties are summarized and data pertaining to the compound's acute toxicity in various species are given. This data has been drawn from the Registry of Toxic Effects of Chemical Substances. Finally, for each of the pesticide chemicals there is a reference to the appropriate Section of the Code of Federal Regulations, 40 CFR 180, where the various crop tolerances may be located.

High Praise from a Notable Source.......2005-04-07
In his Pulitzer-Prize winning book, The Denial of Death, Ernest Becker wrote that Freud's "great work, Group Psychology and the Analysis of the Ego...in my opinion is probably the single most potentially liberating tract that has ever been fashioned by man." I haven't read this work of Freud's yet, but I will soon, because of Becker's comment. I've read many of Freud's works and have found them fascinating and very helpful, even though they're far fetched at times and I don't share Freud's disdain for religious faith. Becker's work is wonderful (I'm reviewing now from cover to cover the many passages I've highlighted) and voices both appreciations and criticisms of Freud throughout his work. So if he says this about Group Psychology, I've got to read it!

This collection of 25 years of writings describes Gray's approach to "close following" of the immediate present in "essential psychoanalysis" and intensive psychoanalytic psychotherapy. His method is difficult but the results are compelling. All therapists should read this. People who consult therapists might also be interested in matching their therapies with Gray's admittedly difficult standard.

* How is the experience of 'self' linked to language, narratives and other people?
* What is the role of time, morality, power and control in the construction of identity?
This introductory textbook presents a coherent overview of the theory, methodology and potential application of narrative psychological approaches. It compares narrative psychology with other social constructionist approaches and argues that the experience of self only takes on meaning through specific linguistic, historical and social structures. The author shows how the choice of one narrative over another - for example arising out of dominant narrative structures of power and control - can have serious social and psychological implications for the construction of images of self, responsibility, blame and morality.
Theoretical approaches are introduced and an overview of methods is provided, encouraging individuals to apply these theories to their own autobiographies. Such theories are further illustrated with case-study material drawing on physical illness (HIV infection) and childhood sexual abuse. Each of these issues is examined in a way which demonstrates how different contemporary narratives and discourses are used to construct meaning and a sense of coherent identity in the face of traumatic events which break down temporal coherence and order. Taken as a whole, this book represents essential reading for students and researchers interested in narrative psychology.

Not only does the author weave philosophy, traditional social science, and contemporary narrative theory and methods together, she does it with a grace and anticipation of the reader's next question that are not found in other books on the subject. There is depth, complex analysis, and a light touch that encouraged me to read right on to the last page.

Face, Harmony, and Social Structure continues author P. Christopher Earley's investigations of the differences among people within organizations in different cultures. The concept of "face," as set forth by Earley, is a reflection of the individual's struggle for self-definition and understanding, of which a key component is a positioning of self relative to others is a social setting. Face is at the heart of social behavior and provides a consistent linking mechanism to understand behavior across cultures. Earley uses this concept of face as a basis for examination of cross-cultural organizational behavior from an individual's personal perspective. In this work, he develops a mid-range theory of individual behavior, self-concept, and interpersonal process in an effort to explain cultural differences in organizational settings. He sets up a cross-level model, and then attempts to provide a single coherent force--"face"--as an engine driving the entire system that can be used to integrate various social and organizational mechanisms in predicting people's behavior. This understanding of how and why people behave certain ways is a critical tool for studying the impact of individual behavior on the functioning of organizations. Earley's work represents a new theory of self-presentation and face within a cross-cultural context, integrating a cross-level approach ranging from the individual to the organization and to the societal levels of discussion. Face, Harmony, and Social Structure is a truly interdisciplinary work that brings elements of psychology, sociology, and anthropology to organizational studies.
