Ok.......2007-01-29
The book wasn't in as great as a condition as it stated. It was it was less than good condition and did not come with an access card like it stated.
Best econ book!.......2005-08-19
This book is an outstanding book, which uses a lot of graphs and good explanations! I used this book as my subtext because my econ teacher chose a very lame online book, which doesn't have as many graphs and pictures as this book has. This book explains concepts in a very clear and organized way to help you better understand. I really wanted to say "thank you" to the author!

Not Very Helpful.......2007-07-03
I agree with the reviewer from Denver, it is unethical (but not illegal) to use Beitler's Strategic Organizational Change title after his book has become an international success. But, beyond any ethical concerns about using the title from Beitler's 2003 book, there are a few other issues.
Obviously, Auster, Wylie, and Valente are academics, not practitioners. Unfortunately, this book is not very helpful for academics or practitioners. Academics look for footnotes, citations, and references to research. The authors offer none of these three essentials for academics.
For practitioners, the examples in the book are a bit hard to believe. Practitioners will see through the stories rather quickly.
The format of the book is based on three questions:
Where are we now?
What changes do we need to make?
How are we going to make them?
The first question is addressed in chapters 2 and 3. The second question is addressed in chapter 4. The third question is addressed in chapters 5-10. The authors make no clear distinction between planning and implementing. This distinction is critical in practice.
The chapter on creativity (chapter 9) is interesting, but it's difficult to understand how the authors relate creativity to strategic change.
If you are interested in Strategic Organizational Change, get a copy of Beitler's original 2003 book, or Beitler's 2006 second edition. And of course, in this field Kotter's Leading Change and Cameron & Quinn's Diagnosing Organizational Culture are great books as well.
A Great Resource!.......2007-04-13
I am the President of Cohesion Inc, and also a part-time course director in the marketing faculty of the Schulich School of Business, York University in Toronto, Canada. Strategic organizational change management is central to our mission of building strong brands and businesses through transforming them into high performance marketing systems.
Whether you are new to change management or already an experienced practitioner, this book will serve as a great resource given its easy to read style and numerous practical examples and tools.
Should be Required Reading!.......2006-07-19
In today's business world, if you are not leading change, you're not leading. This only constant is change and victory goes to the organization that can learn fastest, lead fundamental change in the industry and enroll all employees to create the future. At P&G, this approach has helped us to successfully lead several major change efforts affecting the work of over 10,000 employees. Strategic Organizational Change should be required reading for any business leader!
Strategic and Tactical. Addresses the very important human element in change. .......2006-07-16
This book is a valuable addition to my library of books on change management because it isn't the same old kind of change book. It integrates leading edge strategic thinking while covering the latest practical work on change. It addresses everything from planning the details to the emotions and politics of change. Most books cover the business planning attached with change without speaking to the very important point that it is people who must implement any kind of change and it is humans who are affected by change. Given the complexity of the human response to change, most books miss a major factor on the critcal success path. This book recognizes and addresses this issue in a way that is applicable to any industry and any kind of change. In addition it provides useful tools that can be put in play. This book will help both new and experienced managers/directors/GMs lead and implement change. It also is a quick and interesting read. That is helpful noting the one thing leaders and implementers of change do not have, is a lot of time. I highly recommend it.
Shameful.......2006-07-09
The authors simply took the title of Beitler's widely used book with the same name. Apparently, the is no law in Canada that prohibits stealing a title or material with U.S. copyright. If you are interested in organizational change purchase the original Strategic Organizational Change by Beitler.

Book Description
There is a growing interest and need for enhancing economic and policy research in agroforestry. So far, no single reference book provides adequate coverage of applied economic and policy analysis methodologies for agroforestry professionals. This book, written by the leading experts in economics and agroforestry, addresses this need with 14 case studies (covering all the continents of the world) that describe and demonstrate the application of a wide range of cutting edge economic analysis techniques to agroforestry system, policies and projects. The applied economic methodologies include enterprise/farm budget models, Faustmann models, Policy Analysis Matrix, production function approach, risk assessment models, dynamic programming, linear programming, meta-modeling, contingent valuation, attribute-based choice experiments, econometric modeling, and institutional economic analysis. After providing an overview of agroforestry systems and valuation methodologies (Chapter 1), the Economic Analyses section (Chapters 2-6) presents a variety of methods for analyzing the profitability of agroforestry systems under different settings. The Environmental Economic Analyses section (Chapters 7-10) offers several environmental economic methodologies to value both market and non-market benefits of agroforestry systems. The Household Constraints and Agroforestry Adoption section (Chapters 11-13) is devoted to the issue of agroforestry adoption and the factors influencing the adoption decision. The Macroeconomic and Institutional Analyses section (Chapters 14-15) focuses on the role of agroforestry in rural development and institutional arrangements required to further agroforestry adoption. Finally, Chapter 16 summarizes the main results, discusses the status of economic research in agroforestry, and identifies opportunities for further research in economic and policy of agroforestry. This book provides a unique and valuable resource for assisting upper division undergraduate and graduate students and rural development professionals to conduct rigorous assessment of economic and policy aspects of agroforestry systems and to produce less biased and more credible information.

Maslow on Management
ASIN: 0471293091 |
Book Description
"If we wish to help humans to become more fully human, we must realize not only that they try to realize themselves, but that they are also reluctant or afraid or unable to do so. Only by fully appreciating this dialectic between sickness and health can we help to tip the balance in favor of health." -Abraham Maslow
Abraham Maslow's theories of self-actualization and the hierarchy of human needs are the cornerstone of modern humanistic psychology, and no book so well epitomizes those ideas as his classic Toward a Psychology of Being.
A profound book, an exciting book, its influence continues to spread, more than a quarter century after its author's death, beyond psychology and throughout the humanities, social theory, and business management theory.
Of course, the book's enduring popularity stems from the important questions it raises and the answers it provides concerning what is fundamental to human nature and psychological well-being, and what is needed to promote, maintain, and restore mental and emotional well-being. But its success also has to do with Maslow's unique ability to convey difficult philosophical concepts with passion, precision, and astonishing clarity, and, through the power of his words, to ignite in readers a sense of creative joy and wholeness toward which we, as beings capable of self-actualization, strive.
This Third Edition makes Abraham Maslow's ideas accessible to a new generation of psychology students, as well as businesspeople, managers, and trainers interested in applying the study of human behavior to management techniques.
An energetic and articulate scholar, Professor Maslow was the author of more than twenty books, including Eupsychian Management; Psychology of Science; Religions, Values, and Peak Experiences; Motivation and Personality; and Principles of Abnormal Psychology (with B. Mittelmann). He also edited New Knowledge in Human Values and wrote nearly one hundred articles. His teachings continue to be a staple for psychologists and psychology students.
"Capacities clamor to be used, and cease their clamor only when they are well used. . . . Not only is it fun to use our capacities, but it is necessary for growth. The unused skill or capacity or organ can become a disease center or else atrophy or disappear, thus diminishing the person." -Abraham Maslow
Toward a Psychology of Being, Third Edition
Abraham Maslow doesn't pretend to have easy answers, absolutes, or solutions that bring the relief of finality-but he does have a deep belief in people. In this Third Edition of Toward a Psychology of Being (the original edition sold well over 100,000 copies), there is a constant optimistic thrust toward a future based on the intrinsic values of humanity. Professor Maslow states that, "This inner nature, as much as we know of it so far, seems not to be intrinsically evil, but rather either neutral or positively 'good.' What we call evil behavior appears most often to be a secondary reaction to frustration of this intrinsic nature." He demonstrates that human beings can be loving, noble, and creative, and are capable of pursuing the highest values and aspirations.
This Third Edition will bring Professor Maslow's ideas to a whole new generation of business and psychology readers, as well as anyone interested in the study of human behavior.

How could this book possibly cost $50?.......2004-01-14
This book was not written as a textbook - it was written as a standard work of non-fiction. 15 years ago it cost $8. How can they charge $50 for it?
I believe we have to take these factors into account when discussing the merits of a book. This price is really out of hand.
Hard Reading but Worth It.......2002-08-16
I had to read this for an Organizational Leadership class in graduate school. When I first got it I thought, "This is going to be like reading a VCR manual." That is, it appeared to be boring theoretical way out there stuff, with sentences lasting a full paragraph.
However, it is one of the best books I have ever read in helping me to understand people and why they are the way they are. This is a quick written self help book. Rather, it explains the fundamental causes of people's behavior in life.
Tough reading.......2001-10-29
I've got more knowledge about psychology than most of the people in the general population and found this book difficult reading. It focuses on actualization rather than on the hierarchy of needs.
one of his best..........2000-06-01
...and easier going than the more technical FARTHER REACHES. A good intro to Maslow's thought and to humanistic psychology in general, it lays out many of his key ideas in a plain and simple style.
Change Your Life!.......2000-01-30
Discovering this book back in the 1960s changed my life and led me into the field of first, Humanistic Psychology and then into Transpersonal Psychology, where I found my life-work and purpose.
Read it, and if you are searching for some real meaning in your life, you will find the beginning of the way. Then read all the books in the list of references, and that will be even better!
It opens up a whole new world!

Echoes of the Ancient Wisdom of the Earth.......2004-08-03
"Thinking Like a Mountain" is an elegant tapestry of writings, poems, and observations which plumb the depths of Ecological Philosophy. This little book is a labor of love, crafted skillfully, with fascinating illustrations that convey the harmony, complexity, and uniqueness of the Natural World.
the Reoccurring Theme which is centeral to this book is that in order for Humans to be Balanced and Functional, it is necessary that they open themselves and learn to develop an increased sensitivity to the incredible diversity and richness of Nature. Within this context the Human Self, over time, becomes gradually transformed into the "Ecological Self" in an intricately and infinitely bonded universe within which the boundaries between Humans and their Ecological Selves become merged and indistinguishable from each other.
From the different, yet complementary perspectives of the three authors, the reader will come to realize that "whatever befalls the Earth befalls the sons of Earth," and that Man himself does not "weave the Web of Life" but instead exists as a mere "strand" within this interactively intricate web.
This is a simplistic, yet profound, book of "Discovery," where we learn that Gaia is becoming increasingly aware of Herself, and the intricate cycles and interactions of her countless Life-Forms within the Global Biosphere. For anyone who loves Nature, and wishes to better comprehend the philosophical interactions between Humans and Natural World, this book will prove to be a rich resource for both Mind and Spirit. Elliott Maynard, Arcos Cielos Research Center.
There I was, sitting in a canyon, thinking like a mountain........2001-01-06
I read this book while sitting under a cottonwood tree at the bottom of the Grand Canyon (a "mountain lying down"). This collection of deep-ecology essays, teachings, meditations, and poems allowed me to experience my surroundings in a new way: "Every atom in this body existed before organic life emerged 4000 million years ago. Remember our childhood as minerals, as lava, as rocks? Rocks have the potentiality to weave themselves into such stuff as this. We are the rocks dancing" (p. 36).
This book's title is taken from the 1949 SAND COUNTY ALMANAC, in which Aldo Leopold warned us that unless we attempt to connect with our ecosystem by thinking like a mountain, disaster is inevitable. Stated differently by Thich Nhat Hanh, we must listen within ourselves to "the sounds of the earth crying" (p. 7). Contributors to this 122-page book include, among others, John Seed, Joanna Macy, Pat Fleming, Arne Naess, Gary Snyder, and Chief Seattle. John Seed recognizes that "nothing short of a total revolution in consciousness will be of lasting use in preserving the life-support systems of our planet" (p. 9). He reminds us that we are "part of the rainforest recently emerged into thinking" (p. 36). Joanna Macy observes that we touch the Earth by touching our face, by touching our brothers and sisters (pp. 60-61).
This thin book contains a mountain of deep thinking, including exercises designed to "help make us more conscious of our embeddedness in the web of life" (p. 80), and meditations to protect the Earth "from the blades of men unhinged by greed, prestige and authority" (p. 91): "Relax and breathe in, breathe in Mountain, I feel my rock-roots go deep deep down to where the Earth herself is very hot" (p. 80). Reading this book could change the way you think about your life. "When you think like a mountain, one also thinks like the black bear, so that honey dribbles down your fur as you catch the bus to work" (p. 39).
G. Merritt
Amazing book on the sacredness of all beings.......2000-06-25
Deep and thought provoking is how I found this book. Quotes and theories and musings upon how we are all connected and the impacts we have on one another on this green earth. Something in this book warmed my heart. Knowing there are others out there with incredible respect for even the most tiniest and seemingly insignificant creatures was very heartening. Other books that may compare are Machelle Wrights "Behaving as if the God in all life mattered" and any book concerning the spiritual community of Findhorn. I highly recommend this book to those of you who like a thoughtful read on Nature and spirit. Thanks Brenda Tataryn.
