Book Description
The term "project finance" is now being used in almost every language in every part of the world. It is the solution to infrastructure, public and private venture capital needs. It has been successfully used in the past to raise trillions of dollars of capital and promises to continue to be one of the major financing techniques for capital projects in both developed and developing countries.
Project Finance aims to provide:
*Overview of project finance
*Understanding of the key risks involved in project finance and techniques for mitigating risk
*Techniques for effective evaluation of project finance from both a financial and credit perspective
The author differentiates between recourse and non-recourse funding, tackles the issues of feasibility, identifies the parties normally involved with project finance plans, and details techniques for realistic cash flow preparation.
*Inspired by basic entry level training courses that have been developed by major international banks worldwide
*Will enable students, and those already in the finance profession, to gain an understanding of the basic information and principles of project finance
*Includes questions with answers, study topics, practical 'real world' examples and an extensive bibliography
Customer Reviews:
Disappointing.......2007-02-24
The editor must have failed to read page 2 paragraph 4 that rails against the goal of project finance, namely to "make government irrelevant and achieve a two-tier society where government panders to the marginalized and infrastructure development and exploitation (!!!??) are handed over to private capital, free from the encumbrances of the electoral mandates". With that kind of bias set forward, why continue reading??
Basically, a set of powerpoint slides bound in a booklet.

Book Description
Former editor-in-chief for the Project Management Institute (PMI®), Francis M. Webster Jr. refers to himself as "the Olde Curmudgeon." After reading his new book, it is difficult to see how this description applies. What Webster delivers in PM 101 According to the Olde Curmudgeon: An Introduction to the Basic Concepts of Project Management is insider information dispensed with a friendly arm-around-the-shoulders approach.
This is a book of veteran do's and don'ts, generously shared with novice project managers. Webster's passion is modern project management, those aspects of the field not given adequate attention in the past. You'll learn the nine essential skills of modern project management, making this an essential book for your project management library.
Writing as the "Olde Curmudgeon," Webster lets new project managers in on the tricks of the trade. By following his advice, the most inexperienced novice should look good. In PM 101, Webster shares his well-reasoned, well-organized observations. This carefully written manual is full of ideas, distinctions, rules, and metaphorseven commandments.
PM 101 is essential for new project managers who need to come off the blocks on the right foot fast!

Getting Started in Project Management.......2001-05-10
If you are new to the field of Project Management this book is very helpful. It draws upon the accepted practices of the PMBOK (Project Management Body of Knowledge) but is written more for those who don't want to learn directly from a text book style reading. The story follows a character named Sam and how he deals with his first exposure to project management. The flow of the book is very smooth as it takes you from basically describing what a project is, through the skill sets required to be a successful PM, and finally to the development of a Work Breakdown Structures and project planning techniques. This is a great quick read for anyone interested in project management as a profession, or who uses project management skills in their day to day jobs but don't have any guidelines.

Book Description
Professionals in the field of applied economic analysis and students interested in a more detailed approach to cost-benefit analysis than that offered in the most widely used textbooks will find Benefits and Beneficiaries a valuable tool. This volume explores the distributional implications inherent in cost-benefit analysis, shows how distributional value judgments underlie traditional efficiency analysis and the treatment of accounting prices, and provides guidelines for estimating the distributional effects of investment projects.
Applications are illustrated by three examples involving industry, electricity generation and irrigation. In each case, the author leads the reader through the analysis, comparing situations with and without an investment project, in order to identify and quantify the costs an benefits involved, and estimate the distribution of these real income changes. The book is directed towards professionals in the field of applied economic analysis and students interested in a more detailed approach to such topics than that offered in the more general textbooks, which it may serve to supplement.

A very informative book.......2001-07-06
This is the perfect book for you if you know nothing about business and you want to learn the basics. I had to read it four times from cover to cover for a test, but I kept on finding new information each time I read it. Unfortunately, this edition has some outdated information about computers and credit card processing, but the rest of the book is pretty accurate. If you want to learn more about consumers, the government's role in the economy, and financial institutions, I would suggest using this as your basic reference book. It doesn't use complex language or strange jargon to explain things - it's perfect for the school or the office. There's lots of colorful graphs and pictures that really helped me understand the concepts presented.
