Book Description
Arms traders and sophisticated individual investors with the tools they need to play the markets successfully
Many traders believe that they must perform at least one trade every day, no matter what. However, as expert Price Headley clearly demonstrates in this groundbreaking book, not only is that assumption false, it can also be dangerous. He shows why focusing too narrowly on the daily ebb and flow of the markets minimizes a trader's chances for the big returns. He explains why maximum results are achieved by identifying the big market trends and riding them for all their worth. Headley explores the major market indicators-including the popular CBOE Volatility Index, Nasdaq 100, Rydex Mutual Fund Flows, and Equity Put/Call Ratio-and shows readers how to use them to identify the stocks that are about to take off. Emphasizing the aggressive use of options, he also empowers investors with stock selection techniques and options strategies that work in virtually every type of market.
Customer Reviews:
Good book but.......2007-06-27
The book contents is OK but it is not a thorough analysis of the option strategies and techniques.
It's ok........2007-06-27
Some of the nuggets are more like pebbles. The book seems more like an infomercial to sign up for his picks through his website/stock picking services. If you're looking for real tips to reading the market, I'd say check out some of J. Cramer's books. Cramer isn't perfect, but who is? At least Cramer tells it like he sees it. If Eliot Spitzer likes Cramer, then he can't be that bad!
Worth the cost - Psychology and Money Management are the keys to trading well.......2006-11-15
I haven't had any experience personally with the Bigtrends advisory services, but I can say that this book was worth my time to read. It's a bit heavy for me at first on all the systems used, but I found the final chapter on the psychology and money management alone to be well worth the cost of the book. That's where I always seem to lose my money in the market, by getting too high or too low (at the wrong times, of course!). It appears that his systems are designed to profit from these emotional fear and greed panics of the rest of the crowd.
Clearly this is not a book for beginners, but since I had already gotten my feet wet in trading over the last couple of years, I definitely have some ideas I look forward to applying from this book. The Acceleration Bands indicator (appears different than Bollinger bands) looks very promising to me, and I may also now try my hand at options (on a small scale at first)!
Horrible experience with Big Trends advisory service.......2005-08-15
After reading this book you might go check out their website and you'll see that they offer a few advisory services. Don't be fooled by the track records they email you, I lost thousands of dollars being SUCKERED into a non-refundable yearly membership fee to one of their services only to lose a lot more following their advisory emails. I quit following their stock pick recommendations about 3 months into the service with 9 more months left and watched their picks for almost a year. THEY DID SO HORRIBLE, I WOULD LITERALY DO BETTER PICKING STOCKS OUT OF A HAT, not to mention the horrible customer service. They did not respond my emails when I had questions or concerns about what is going on with these recommendations.
Very Bad Customer Service from BigTrends.......2004-12-31
i bot the book and later subscribed to its Bigtrends newsltter service and i had the worst experience ever in my whole trading career. I wrote to them several times for problems i had in its service and i received no replies. They charged me upfront for thousands of dollars and no refund despite cancellations after two weeks.
This is one newsletter that i would not recommend...trust me ! there is no customer service at all !!

Description:
The subcellular localization of Se and Hg and their cytosolic binding proteins, including cellular oxidative status, in porcine liver and kidney have been studied by using samples from a chronic Hg-contaminated area and a non-Hg-contaminated area. Coaccumulation and redistribution of Se and Hg in subcellular fractions due to mercury exposure were found. The Hg and Se concentrations in tissues from Hg-exposed porcine were 80 folds and 5-20 folds higher than controls, respectively. Insterestingly, the retention of both Se and Hg increased 10% in mitochondria, while decreased 10% in cytosol of Hg-exposed pig liver. Mercury was mainly in the form of MTs in the cytosol of the non-Hg-exposed porcine kidney. MT binds Hg in the cytosol with limited capacity, and the rest Hg was redistributed to the high molecular weight (MW) proteins (80-100 kDa) in the Hg-exposed group. The coaccumulation of Hg and Se was also found in high MW proteins, where their molar ratio was tended to be 1:1. Moreover, the Se-containing polypeptides (3-6 kDa) increased significantly both in hepatic and renal cytosol of the Hg-exposed pigs. Se-dependent GSH-Px and SOD activity were increased to cope with Hg-induced oxidative stress. In previous studies, the roles of Se and MTs were generally taken into account separately; we discussed their combining roles in the case of high Hg exposure. The present results were beneficial to understand the existing states of Hg in vivo and evaluate the interaction of toxic and essential elements.

Description:
Biogeochemical mapping of selenium in Italian agricultural soils was accomplished by measuring the Se concentration of representative samples of wheat grains from 71 provinces. The range of the concentration values averaged on a provincial basis was 7-245 ng Se g^-^1. A multiple regression model based on six geochemical and pedoclimatic variables was developed to interpret the observed data and to predict Se concentration of wheat in areas where analytical data were missing and in the different Italian soil regions. The statistical model explained only part of the observed variance, but succeeded in identifying Se-enriched as well as Se-depleted areas with an acceptable level of agreement with the biogeochemical map based on measured Se in wheat. Furthermore, the model showed that within the range of concentrations measured in Italian soils, Se-bioaccessibility is controlled not only by the Se content of the soil parent rocks, but also by their overall geochemical nature (carbonatic vs. silicatic) and by pedoclimatic variables (temperature and rain intensity excursions) related to fluctuations of soil moisture and pH. Overall, several Se-marginal and Se-deficient areas were identified on the Italian territory. The implications of these findings for public health are discussed briefly.

Description:
Mercury (total and methyl), cadmium and selenium concentrations were measured in liver, kidney and brain tissue from mink trapped from the Yukon Territory from 2001-2002. None of these metals was found at levels of toxicological concern. Total mercury averaged 0.66, 0.92 and 0.22 @mg g^-^1 in mink kidney, liver and brain tissue respectively, while methyl mercury averaged 0.77, 0.85 and 0.21 @mg g^-^1 in the same tissues. Selenium averaged 2.07, 1.40 and 0.39 @mg g^-^1 in mink kidney, liver and brain tissue, while cadmium was only measured in kidneys and averaged 0.22 @mg g^-^1. All element concentrations are presented on a wet weight basis. Concentrations of total mercury in all tissues were significantly higher in female than male mink, possibly reflecting proportionally greater food consumption by the smaller females. Total mercury concentrations were inversely related to the proportion of mercury present as methylmercury, and positively related to concentrations of selenium, consistent with increasing demethylation of methylmercury, and the formation of mercuric selenide as total concentrations of mercury increased. This relationship was seen most strongly in mink liver, less so in kidneys and not at all in brains where most of the mercury was maintained in the methyl form. There did not appear to be any geographical areas in which mink had obviously higher concentrations of mercury, and there was frequently a relatively large range of mercury levels found in mink from a given trapline. Mink diet may be a factor in this variation. Local environmental levels of cadmium were not reflected in cadmium concentrations in mink tissues. Mercury, cadmium and selenium do not appear to constitute environmental hazards to mink in the Yukon.

Description:
Concentrations and total organ content of mercury, selenium and cadmium, as well as liver, kidney and body mass were determined in female common eiders from 1997 to 2000 at the East Bay Migratory Bird Sanctuary in the eastern Canadian arctic. In 1997 and 1999, female eiders were collected during the pre-nesting period when they eat copious amounts of food and gain substantial weight in preparation for the rigours of nesting. In 1998 and 1999, female eiders were collected during the mid to late stages of the nesting period when they eat very little, if at all, and, as a consequence undergo dramatic weight loss. Total body mass, liver mass and kidney mass were highest in pre-nesting birds, especially in 1997. They were significantly lower in nesting birds collected in 1998 and 2000. In contrast, mercury and cadmium concentrations were lowest in pre-nesting birds collected in 1997 and 1999 and increased to significantly higher concentrations in nesting birds collected in 1998 and 2000. In contrast to these results, the total contents of mercury in liver and cadmium in kidney did not change significantly over the 4-year period. Hepatic selenium concentrations were relatively stable over the 4-year study period while changes in the total content of selenium in the liver paralleled changes in liver mass and body mass. The results suggest that mercury and cadmium concentrations in female common eiders change in response to normal changes in body and organ mass that occur during the reproductive period. Thus, it may be important to consider body condition or reproductive stage when using common eiders (and perhaps other species of sea ducks) in biomonitoring studies or when interpreting concentrations of metals in tissues in terms of the risk they pose to these ducks.

Book Description
Precision physics of simple atoms is a multidisciplinary area, involving atomic, laser, nuclear and particle physics and also metrology. This book will thus be of interest to a broad community of physicists and metrologists. Furthermore, since hydrogen (and other hydrogen-like atoms) is a model system for applying quantum theory, the book contains valuable material for students. The chapters provide in-depth reviews covering precision measurements, accurate calculations, fundamental constants, frequency standards, and tests of fundamental theory. The latest progress in each of these areas is also described for the specialist. The topics selected for this book are largely complementary to those of the earlier related volume, LNP 570.

Book Description
For more than a century, studies of atomic hydrogen have been a rich source of scientific discoveries. These began with the Balmer series in 1885 and the early quantum theories of the atom, and later included the development of QED and the first successful gauge field theory. Today, hydrogen and its relatives continue to provide new fundamental information, as witnessed by the contributions to this book. The printed volume contains invited reviews on the spectroscopy of hydrogen, muonium, positronium, few-electron ions and exotic atoms, together with related topics such as frequency metrology and the determination of fundamental constants. The accompanying CD contains, in addition to these reviews, a further 40 contributed papers also presented at the conference "Hydrogen Atom 2" held in summer 2000. Finally, to facilitate a historical comparison, the CD also contains the proceedings of the first "Hydrogen Atom" conference of 1988. The book includes a foreword by Norman F. Ramsey.
