Book Description
The perspective of complex responsive processes draws on analogies from the complexity sciences, bringing in the essential characteristics of human agents, understood to emerge in social processes of communicative interaction and power-relating. The result is a way of thinking about life in organizations that focuses attention on how organizational members cope with unknown as they perpetually create organizational futures together.
Providing a natural successor to the Editors' earlier series (Complexity and Emergence in Organizations) this series Complexity as the Experience of Organizing, aims to take this work further by taking very seriously the experience of organizational practitioners, and showing how taking the perspective of complex responsive process yields deeper insight into practice and so develops that practice.
In this book, all of the contributors work as leaders, consultants or managers in organizations. They provide narrative accounts of their actual work addressing questions such as:
· How does the work of the researcher actually assist managers when the uncertainty is so great that they do no know what they are doing yet?
· What does research in organizations actually achieve?
· If patters of human interaction produced nothing but further patterns of human interaction, in the creation of which we are all participating, is there a detached way of understanding organizations from the position of the objective observer?
In considering such questions in terms of their daily experience, the contributors explore how the perspective of complex responsive processes assists them to make sense of their experience and so to develop their practice. A Complexity Perspective on Researching Organizations offers a different method for making sense of experience in a rapidly changing world by using reflective accounts of ordinary everyday life in organizations rather than idealized accounts. The editors' commentary introduces and contextualizes these experiences as well as drawing out key themes for further research.
A Complexity Perspective on Researching Organizations will be of value to readers from amongst those academics and business school students and practitioners who are looking for reflective accounts of real life experiences of researching in organizations, rather than further prescriptions of what life in organizations ought to be like.
Book Description
During the reigns of Louis XV (1723-74) and Louis XVI (1774-92), fashion and furniture were not simply meant to be beautiful but were also intended to arouse, attract, and seduce. Published in response to the critically acclaimed and hugely popular exhibition held at the Metropolitan Museum in the fall of 2004, Dangerous Liaisons focuses on fashion and its interplay with the paintings, furniture, and decorative arts of eighteenth-century France. Featuring beautiful color photographs of the exhibition’s installation, details of the garments, and supplementary historical material, the book demonstrates how the extravagant clothing of the period reiterated the splendor of Rococo and Neoclassical interiors.
Customer Reviews:
Oh, my goodness.......2007-09-08
Great text and pictures. I only wish there were more details of the fashion.
Disappointment.......2007-07-31
An overblown production that does not deliver. A waste of photography and an even bigger waste of money.
Reference to 18th century costuming.......2007-07-23
I make porcelain dolls and found this book invaluable for costuming the dolls in authentic dresses. The settings for the costumes is also very inspiring
Angonita Blue Ribbon Dolls
Magnificent detail.......2007-02-13
If you have a penchant for 18th century fashion this is the book for you. As I turned each page I was more and more enamoured with what I saw. The most delicious fabrics and designs, accompanied by authentic furniture and settings.
You can just imagine Marie Antoinette swishing down the corridors of Versailles in one of these magnificent creations... absolutely wonderful!!
Absolutely Beautiful.............2006-11-05
An absolutely beautiful book showing the rooms and dress of that period......
Customer Reviews:
Thin and unsubstantiated, and very cynical.......2006-01-02
This is one of the modern histories, written by journalists, that you must either accept in full without any substantiation, or reject out of hand. It's written with an authoritative style, and the facts that are presented appear to be believable; but on further review, the footnotes reveal that much of the substance of the book is the famous "unnamed source" which so pervades modern investigative journalism. This of course means that most of what the authors say requires that you take the book at their word, because you can't cross-reference much of the allegations here. As a result, the whole thing sort of collapses of its own weight.
When I read a book like this, I always look into the sources, and am especially pleased when the authors provide you with an annotated bibliography, so you can look and see which sources they agree with or approve of, and which they reject. Here, the main clue is that the authors appear to revere Noam Chomsky: any historian with any objectivity will tell you Chomsky would make Karl Marx look close to Rush Limbaugh politically. The authors are also so relentlessly cynical it defies belief: does no one in either the American or Israeli governments act for any reason other than personal gain? Or perhaps they're motivated by base goals: power for their countries at everyone else's expense. Whatever, no one in the book with very few exceptions is portrayed in a positive light. Every president from Jimmy Carter to Ronald Reagan (pretty much the gamut of American politics) is portrayed negatively. And frankly, while I'm no big fan of Carter politically, I don't believe he used the obscenity attributed to him towards the end of the book. That just makes the whole book less believable. The final result is that the whole book for me, submerges into irrelevance. I wouldn't recommend this book much for anyone.
Biased Opinionated Drivel.......2004-10-19
Quite obviously these two are anti-Israel. Their writings lead one in the direction they choose. For example on one page they will state that a certain action was not authenticated. Then, several pages on, this same fact will again be presented as completely true.
If a person desires to read about the Israeli Intelligence, there are far better choices to select from.
Pure crapola.
Facinating Cloak-and-Dagger Reading.......2001-08-04
A very interesting account of the intrigue, plotting, and scheming done by the Zionists in their bid to garner U.S. political, military and economic support for Israel. Highly recommended, very well written and well researched.

Book Description
With the advent of genetic engineering, "designer" crops might interbreed with natural populations. Could such romances lead to the evolution of "superweeds", as some have suggested? But haven't crops had sex with wild plants in the past? Has such gene swapping occurred without consequences? And if consequences have indeed occurred, what lessons can be gleaned for engineered crops?
In Dangerous Liaisons? Norman Ellstrand examines these and other questions. He begins with basic information about the natural hybridization process. He then describes what we now know about hybridization between the world's most important crops -- such as wheat, rice, maize, and soybeans -- and their wild relatives. Such hybridization, Ellstrand explains, is not rare, and has occasionally had a substantial impact. In some cases, the result was problematic weeds. In others, crop genes have diluted natural diversity to the point that wild populations of certain rare species were absorbed into the gene pool of the more common crop, essentially bringing the wild species to the brink of extinction.
Ellstrand concludes with a look to the future. Will engineered crops pose a greater threat than traditional crops? If so, can gene flow and hybridization be managed to control the escape of engineered genes? This book will appeal to academics, policy makers, students, and all with an interest in environmental issues.

Set in the world of American fashion publishing at the end of the 20th century with an all male cast of characters, "danger@liaisons.com" brings Laclos' classic tale of deception and betrayal into the volatile age of electronic communication and HIV, exploring the timeless influence that words can have in illuminating the most fatal passions. More than a modern retelling of the 18th century French novel that inspired it, "danger@liaisons.com" is a controversial, cautionary tale about the danger of.electronic.intercourse.

Book Description
A new translation of one of the most notorious novels of all time
Published just years before the French Revolution, Laclos's great novel of moral and emotional depravity is a disturbing and ultimately damning portrayal of a decadent society. Aristocrats and ex-lovers Marquise de Merteuil and Vicomte de Valmont embark on a sophisticated game of seduction and manipulation to bring amusement to their jaded lives. While Merteuil challenges Valmont to seduce an innocent convent girl, he is also occupied with the conquest of a virtuous married woman. Eventually their human pawns respond, and the consequences prove to be more seriousand deadlythan the players could have ever predicted.
Customer Reviews:
Superb - absolutely so........2000-04-05
I loved the movie Dangerous Liasons with Glenn Close and John Malkovich and decided to try this audio version of the book. I can't say it was better than the movie, but the audio is superb. It is on 3 CDs and so is longer than the movie and supplies more detail. Since it is in letter form, its style more closely follows the book. The readers show incredible and intense emotion in their voices - you can almost see them in your mind. It made my commuting a joy for several days - I was almost sorry when I got to the office or arrived back home and had to quit listening. Such devious-ness! Who is the most wicked? Enjoy.
Info on the tapes.......1999-03-10
I must admit that I have not listened to the tapes. However, the new movie "Crule Intentions" is based on this book. I have seen the movie and if the two are anything alike, I would highly recommend ordering them.

WOW!.......2006-10-25
Sheri Heller, a beautiful young New Yorker, met a tall, handsome, elegant Belgian on a plane. Soon Baron Jacques de Borchgrave had seduced her and treated her to exotic trips and expensive clothing. She was swept off her feet, but after they married (as is so often the case), her new husband's mask of gentility came off. This is a story of runaway narcissism and sexual deviance. There is a lot detail about some rather untypical sex, so it's not reading for the easily shocked. Sheri de Borchgrave is an intelligent observer of her own life, and the book is fascinating and well-written. I have never read anything like it.
A captivating, engaging story that just draws you in from beginning to end!.......2005-12-21
I thought this was an excellent story. I don't recall quite how I stumbled upon this book but I am very glad I did. I also had the pleasure of seeing the Baroness on a talk show telling her story to the world. It is truly a fascinating story of good and evil. When Sheri meets Jacques you are very quickly caught up in their captivating romance. As he wines and dines her, buys her expensive clothes and takes her on exotic vacations this book at first seems like a wonderful romance novel. Then as Sheri falls for Jacques she begins to see a tiny hint of his dark side but she pushes it out of her mind because she thinks its just a difference of his European nobility and her American nature. I think many of us who have been swept off of our feet by Mr Wonderful can often relate to Sheri as she sees a warning sign or two but turned a blind eye because she wanted to believe the best in her prince charming.
After Sheri moves to Belgium to become the Baroness she sees Jacques dark side begin to unveil itself and Sheri finds her self in a world of manic depressive behavior, incest, wild sex parties and mental abuse all of which seems to be covered up by Jacques family. It is entirely a world to which most of us cannot relate but you feel for Sheri as she realizes she is trapped in a marriage in a foreign country with a mentally disturbed person and this hedonistic lifestyle and she doesn't know how to get out. Will Sheri get out, will she be able to 'cure' her husband, what will occur next, just when she thinks she's seen it all she learns something else.
It is a classic story of a rich family who's money and power covers up their mentally ill son and the poor woman who is romanced into the lifestyle and before she realizes it she is trapped and doesn't know how to get out and has no one to help her.
This book will completely draws you in from beginning to end.
Raves from the New York Times Book Section!!!.......2003-01-11
"This year's most fabulous book" -- those were the words of the New York Times Book Section. Quite an accolade... and I also remember the review said that the book was the most fun, the best summer book, and a terrific read. Naturally I was intrigued by such fulsome praise and bought the book -- and I was not disappointed! I think the reviewer above must be a friend of the Baron's family, otherwise one cannot help but get swept away into the beautiful romance and ultimate betrayal of a young, beautiful and innocent girl by the Jekyll/Hyde man that manipulated her.
This book starts like a Harlequin Romance. Young Sheri meets the man of her dreams (and everyone's dreams) on an airplane -- the place your mother told you you would meet great men. She glimpses into the jet-set life-style of this aristocratic person. The story goes on, the romance continues to its fruition ... but then ---
Hey, unlike the person above, I don't want to give anything away. Read this! It's entertaining and there are definitely lessons to be learned. I wish Sheri de Borchgrave well ... she deserves it after what she went through with the Baron!!!!!
A bad confession........2002-11-09
The story of the marriage of the American Sheri Heller and a Belgian nobleman Jacques De Borchgrave.
The problems begin when Sheri doesn't want to undergo the plastic surgery asked by her husband, who wanted a bigger bosom!
This book is a festival of mud-slinging on her ex-husband and his family. They are, for the author, a bunch of lesbian and bisexual cuckolds. She didn't forget to add in the book photographs of the incriminated villains.
How did the author find a publisher for this ludicrous and totally uninteresting story and for the horribly bad porn?
Absolutely Fabulous.......2002-07-04
Excellent book. You'll never believe what these sickos do!! Buy the book to learn the inside secrets of the Belgian aristocracy! You'll never wish to be royalty again! I'm 16, but this is not a book for little Jimmy. It includes graphic sexual tormentation and abuse.
