QuickBooks in Nonprofits.......2007-08-22
I just started using QuickBooks instead of Peachtree and I needed a book that I could use to look up how to do things. This book has been very helpful.
Using QB for nonprofits.......2007-08-06
It is written in a very professional, usable format demonstrating both an extensive knowledge of QB software and nonprofit accounting needs. It has been an invaluable tool for good nonprofit bookkeeping and accounting. Every nonprofit organization using QB needs this book!
QuickBooks for NonProfits.......2007-07-29
Quickooks is well designed for use by businesses that buy things from vendors, do some work , and then sell products to customers. The softwaare provides a good "homepage" from which the user can select which of the major transacions is to be enetered. If a nonprofit organization's income is mainly from contributions, the user must treat those donors as "customers;" if the nonprofit makes contributins to others, those recipients must be called "vendors." The QuickBooks instruction book (By Kathy Ivens) admits to this need for "translataion." This separate book for nonprofits (also by Kathy Ivens) really offers nothing more. The nonprofit "user" is tempted to buy this book, in the hope that it will tell how to get a better "home page" or how to get that "translation" done by the program.
A severe disappointment!
Not what I thought.......2007-06-02
In my opinion, this book is not very helpful for churchs. It is a general instruction guide for a commercial business application with some name changes to match non-profit terminology--just like the QuickBooks software itself. They are only modified versions of a business world software package designed to appeal to non-profits.
Quickbooks for NonProfits.......2007-05-19
I have used Quicken/Quickbooks for several years personally and have been very pleased with its ease of use and reporting functionality. Recently, I was confronted by a church deacon, who was questioning the appearance of some of the reports being provided to the finance committee and wanted suggestions as to how to "correctly" enter the data to get the information necessary for each "fund". They had been told repeatedly that it couldn't be done, that the program wasn't capable, etc. After reading several chapters of this book, I passed it on to the committee to review and as proof that they didn't need a more expensive program.

It describes, through step-by-step instruction, how to use QuickBooks-a very popular accounting software with nearly 3 million users, with proper accounting. What makes it unique is that it provides real life examples that the user can apply to his/her company's situation. For each example we provide, we explain the accouting, in very simple terms, so that the user understands what he/she is accomplishing in the background.
Also, with the book comes two chart-of-accounts (to select from), an Item and Payroll Item lists that the user can download from our web site and use immidiately. These lists can be extremely valuable to those that may be starting now.
In this book, we also provide a Glossary of business and computer terms; our unique Accounting Quickhelp Table that allows users at a glance know how various business transactions must be recorded; an explanation of the financial statements and what to look for, and other key business reports and much, much more
Customer Reviews:
A bit disappointing.......2001-03-27
I found the book to be a bit disappointing. I had difficulties applying some of the examples to my own questions. It was not very well edited, and I felt it was overpriced, considering that it was on the thin side and looked kind of home-made. I learn software programs quickly and have taught courses on Lotus 123 and other programs, so I don't think I have a learning problem. I will definitely have to get another book on using QuickBooks from an accounting perspective.
Oh, what a relief it is!.......2001-03-22
I walked into my new company to play a new role. New, for me anyway. After college, and over a quarter century in corporate america....I looked and thought I found....a less stressful work experience to relax into. I had no idea that working for a small business would require me to wear so many hats.
My first challenge was to tackle the books. They hadn't been touched for four months (and before that...well, you've heard the expression "too many cooks in the kitchen").
Taking Gregg's overview class and relying on this textbook afterward have made all the difference between chaos and discipline. Thanks for the practical, cut-to-the-chase style of guidance provided in your take-home book.
Necessary Reference Guide for Businesses.......2001-03-20
In starting our new business, the book "Using Quickbooks and Quickbooks Pro" has really helped our consulting firm to set up our corporate books. It has really simplified the process. Thanks for this necessary guide, which all business owners should have for a reference.
Simplifies QuickBooks.......2001-03-20
I found this book to be very helpful in understanding how to use QuickBooks Pro properly. It is well written, easy to follow, & easy to understand. I now keep it in my desk to have it for fast & easy reference. This book has made my job a lot simpler. Thank you Gregory M. Doublas.
For beginners only?.......2001-02-02
Based on the other reviews here, I was expecting great things from this book. I'd just started a job that requires me to use QB all the time and felt that I needed something more than the instruction my predecessor was giving me.
But now that I've received and read this book, everything it covers seems ridiculously elementary. I still feel like I could use more info about the software--like how to use QB in combination with MS Excel and a better explanation of how to get what you need using filters--as well as more on basic accounting principles.
I also think it's overpriced, considering it's a paperback and poorly edited.

Customer Reviews:
A lot of info in concise form!.......2007-09-14
I bought this book in hopes of having a "catch all" reference for our new adventures as shepherds. The book is packed with information in an easy to read format. I will still have to supplement the book with other publications, but it does cover the basics and would serve as a beginner's manual. One thing we have begun doing recently is printing off extension publications and compiling them in a 3 ring binder, arranged by topic. This book is easy to read and would be a good reference for 4H students.
sheep: small-scale sheep keeping for pleasure and profit.......2006-11-06
I have read alot of books on sheep for years, because I own sheep and what to do my best at it. This book was probably the best book on sheep I have ever read. The information was great and easy to understand this book is right on. I have told alot of sheep people I know to get this book
Another wonderful Hobby Farm book from Sue Weaver..........2006-10-30
I read this book being a complete novice on raising sheep. After reading this book, I really feel I have enough knowledge to raise my own sheep on my hobby farm.
The author (Sue Weaver) writes in a wonderful down-to-earth and very easy to understand style. She covers everything sheep such as: choosing the right sheep breed for your needs, sheep disposition & behavior, sheep housing, nutritional needs, shearing & selling fleece, hoof trimming, delivering lambs, common sheep diseases and how to vaccinate your sheep. Whether you're a total novice like me or an old pro, I think you could learn a lot from this book.
This book is put together on nice glossy paper stock. It also has tons of excellent photos. What I love most is that the author shows many photo's on how to correctly do many procedures w/sheep, such as vaccinations. Also this book sports an excellent resource directory. The directory includes an online directory, sheep organizations, sheep suppliers, state & university resources and my favorite the book and periodical guide to all sheep.
The only thing I would've liked in here (tho, I know it goes way beyond the scope of this book) is a chapter that had every sheep breed with photos and characteristics listed. Tho, the author does go a bit into what breeds are best for milk and for wool.
This book is a great investment. I also have Sue Weaver's other book on raising chickens and it is wonderful as well. If you're reading this Sue, how about a book on raising Ducks and one on raising Alpacas next? :)
Great advice and amazing resources.......2005-07-12
This book is an excellent resource for anyone just considering sheep to seasoned shepherds. The pictures are incredible and the information covered is invaluable. I am going to send this book home with each of my lambs' new owners. The Resources section is a MUST for every new owner.

Book Description
The popularity of rare breeds and the growing interest in keeping livestock on a few acres has encouraged many people to establish a small flock of sheep. These enthusiastic new flockmasters, whether they keep rare breeds, native sheep, or some of the continental imports now well established in the UK, require a basic understanding of sheep management which must be just as thorough as that required by farmers running large commercial flocks. Looking after a small flock of sheep can become a most enthralling hobby but newcomers can find it difficult to relate to books written for commercial farmers. This book seeks to encourage, advise and even entertain the new small-scale sheep keeper by setting out the principles of good husbandry based on sound, practical experience.
