The enneagram model, which divides people into personality types, is applied to the work environment in this guide to helping employees grow and succeed in the workplace. The nine personality types—perfectionist, helper, performer, individualist, observer, loyalist, optimist, leader, and mediator—provide a framework for examining patterns of behavior, thinking, and feeling as well as what motivates employees in an increasingly people-oriented business world. By illuminating individual career strengths and weaknesses, this manual helps employees and employers create a successful and effective workplace based on personality balances.

                Your Passport to the Universe

The night sky is alive with many wonders--distant planets, vast star clusters, glowing nebulae, and expansive galaxies, all waiting to be explored. Let respected astronomy writer Philip Harrington introduce you to the universe in Star Watch, a complete beginner's guide to locating, observing, and understanding these celestial objects. You'll start by identifying the surface features of the Moon, the banded cloud tops of Jupiter, the stunning rings of Saturn, and other members of our solar system. Then you'll venture out beyond our solar system, where you'll learn tips and tricks for finding outstanding deep-sky objects from stars to galaxies, including the entire Messier catalog--a primary goal of every serious beginner.

Star Watch features a detailed physical description of each target, including size, distance, and structure, as well as concise directions for locating the objects, handy finder charts, hints on the best times to view each object, and descriptions of what you'll really see through a small telescope or binoculars and with the naked eye.

Star Watch will transport you to the farthest depths of space--and return you as a well-traveled, experienced stargazer.

                Customer Reviews:

                5 out of 5 stars Essential tool.......2007-09-23

As others have said, this is not a glossy, colorful coffee-table book. In fact, you won't find any color pictures in this book at all. Just lots of black and white text and drawings. And yet, I have found this book to be one of the most useful astronomy guides. Why? Two main reasons.

First of all, the star charts. The author shows you how to "star-hop" from a bright star to an obscure deep sky object, which makes finding it so much easier. He also includes textual directions on how to find the object, step by step, star by star.

Second reason is expectations. As the owner of a 6" telescope, I used to be disappointed when I first started this hobby that the views of deep sky objects weren't as fabulous as I had expected from seeing colorful pictures of nebulae, galaxies, and star clusters. Frequently these items seemed like just fuzzy, ghostly grayish images to me. Well, as this book explains, that's how they look to most of us with medium (6" to 8" telescopes). And to the naked eye they will never look as colorful as they do in photographs. This book rates objects by how they would look in binoculars, small telescopes of 3" to 5", and medium telescopes of 6" to 8". He'll also tell you how easy or hard it is to find every object, and what you can expect to see in each type of instrument. He also includes his own sketches of how some of these objects look through his 8" reflector. Often they look not much better than how I see them in my 6" reflector, which is a great comfort.

Excellent book for amateur astronomers - it will tell you exactly how to find the most interesting objects and what to expect to see once you do find them, depending on what instrument you're using.

5 out of 5 stars It Goes With a Telescope or Binoculars........2007-02-12

The book has a big list of things you can see with only a pair of binoculars. So I gave the nerds both binoculars and a telescope.

                Very good book.

                2 out of 5 stars excuse me, a beginner's book?.......2006-01-23

Maybe I am even less talented than I thought, maybe I am just downright stupid, maybe problem is in my expectations, as I expected something more visual and less technical.. but this book is not a beginner's book. I bought a telescope for my son this xmas, and I wanted to know what the heck we are looking at once skies clear over Croatia. This book will not serve that purpose. IF I WERE an astronomy / physics anthusiast (NEVER!), THEN this book would have been a beginner's book.

                4 out of 5 stars Starwatch.......2006-01-15

I used this book for my beginning astronomy class I took online and it was very user friendly and the information is quite understandable. I really liked this book and the information it entails. Enjoy this book

                5 out of 5 stars Harrington's Star Watch Shines.......2005-08-20

An excellent beginner's book or a back-to-basics guide for expeienced observers, Harrington meticulously lays-out the celestial sphere and ways to find and enjoy it's wonders.

This patient step by step approach not only teaches the fundamentals and skills of stargazing, but calibrates our expectation realistically regrarding what we can expect to see depending on the instrument we use and the local conditions.

Harrington selects for us 125 fascinating objects to observe
using them to develop techniques for finding and viewing.

I would recommend this work as a great primer for neophyte amateur astronomers.

4 out of 5 stars Immigration - Memories from the 1880s.......2006-12-19

"Watch the Stars Come Out" by Riki Levinson tells one story of immigration.

How did all of we in America get here? Some came long ago, and became what we know as Indians. Others came on the Mayflower, or up through Mexico. Many came in the late 1800s, through the very early 1900s, with a tremendous wave of European immigrants. This is the story of one European family.

The story begins as the ship approaches the Statue of Liberty. After a tough journey, the family reaches NYC, and works its way toward their new home, a German-Jewish neighborhood on Hester Street.

The story is told from the grandmother who made the trip as a little girl, to a young girl who looks much like her. The memories help the little girl feel connected to her grandmother, and to feel a little closer to an experience her family knew.

She sees the stars, just as her grandmother saw the stars, and realizes life is good.

The drawings are colored pencil, with a great many people, faces, and details. The story misses names. The brother is called "Brother" making a personal and cultural exchange challenging for the reader. No one has a name. The writing is clean, well-edited for the early grade school set.

I fully recommend "Watch the Stars Come Out" by Riki Levinson.

                5 out of 5 stars A trip to America.......2002-10-20

Children enjoy this story about two young immigrants coming to America. A young girl tells how she and brother cross the ocean by ship alone, to meet their parents who already live in New York. She describes the long journey's ups and downs, and also the stop at Ellis Island for a medical check-up. Finally they are reunited with their parents, who now live in a "palace!" It's great for kids just learning about immigrants, or maybe about how your family came to America. The pictures are wistful and dreamy. Your 7-9 year old will like it!

Who knew? Pamela Anderson's debut novel Star is funny, sexy, and utterly compelling--a must read for chick lit fans, subscribers to US Weekly, and anyone with an ounce of curiosity about Hollywood. Still not convinced? Here are three reasons to read Star: it offers a gossipy glimpse into the extravagant lives of the rich and shameless; it's funny--filled with laugh-out-loud memorable moments; and most surprising, it's got a lot of heart--don't be surprised if you find yourself falling for this sweet, naïve, and lovable heroine.

Anyone remotely familiar with Anderson's life will recognize the playfully disguised true story behind Star Wood Leigh's tale--how a tight t-shirt and a football game led to her appearance in Mann Magazine, an accidental audition landed her a spot on the home improvement send-up Hammer Time, and a show called Lifeguards, Inc confirmed her arrival on the Hollywood scene. Anderson's book is delightful--a playful blend of fact and fiction that's a treat to read. The sex kitten with a heart of gold may be a familiar story, but Star offers what even the best chick lit and romance novels cannot--authenticity. Star is a novelization of Pamela Anderson's life, and while it's debatable what's fact and what's fiction (you'll never look at the Hollywood sign the same way again), the point is that it all could have happened to her. Star ends with a bit of a romantic cliffhanger, but anxious readers shouldn't fret--Anderson is hard at work on Star's sequel, a "great exciting romance" featuring the face-licking, impish Jimi Deed. --Daphne Durham

                Book Description

There was just something about her...

Like many twenty-one year olds, Star Wood Leigh works two jobs to make ends meet: the day shift at Talon's Nail and Tan Spa, and the night shift at Mother Pearl's Steak & Oyster Emporium. The archetypal tomboy at home in jeans and a T-shirt, Star is guileless but beguiling, a fresh-faced beauty who knows that too much of a good thing is wonderful. A loving daughter, a good friend, and a faithful girlfriend, this Florida native leads a full life with more than her share of sun and fun. And yet, she lives with a spider sense that something is missing.

It was her beloved grandfather, Papa Jens, who urged her to embrace all that life has to offer. Accepting this advice, Star is shocked to learn that an innocent evening at a football game can set off a chain of life-altering events. One minute she's cleaning the tanning beds at Talon's and the next she's being primped and prodded in preparation for the cover of a national magazine.

What a difference a day makes.

Playful, bawdy, and curl-your-toes-sexy, Star is a breathless romp through tinseltown and tabloids. An insider's look at the world of inflated egos and inflated bodies, Star goes well beyond the clichéd air-kisses and casting couches of Hollywood to show what really happens when A-list meets D-cup, when girl becomes goddess.

Though this book dishes some dirt, it was poorly written. Just a vapid look at Pam's life. I had a hard time finishing it. I don't think I'll read the sequel.

If your a Pamela Anderson fan or if your just looking for a good read, buy this book. It's a steamy and interesting autobiography.

I really enjoyed this book. I'm not really a reader but I couldn't seem to put this book down. For you Pam Anderson fans, you'll love it!

1 out of 5 stars waste of trees.......2007-01-06

I thought that maybe, just maybe, Ms. Anderson would show some hidden literary talent. After all, the book actually got published and there was some hype about it, but I guess I was completely wrong. If an unknown person had submitted this to a publishing house, it would have never gone to press. This may not be the worst book I ever read, but it definitely rates right up there.

4 out of 5 stars Easy adult read.......2006-08-21

I didn't know what to expect when I purchased this book. I found it to be a light, easy read. Perfect for summer time reading. I thought it was so funny to see the similarities between Star and Pam, and see how the names and places were disguised. I thought it ended rather abruptly, until I realized there was a second book out. I will definitely purchase that one as well. As for some of the graphic scenes? No worse than any of the other trashy novels out there, or most of the 'R' rated movies out nowadays. At least she wasn't trying to hide where she came from.

3 out of 5 stars Watch Out, Readers!.......2007-01-24

"Watch Out, Jar Jar" is an entertaining read but it has issues. As a picture book, the original illustrations are very attractive. The problem lies in the text and plot. While the book is intended for primary children (grades K-2), the vocabulary usually runs on a fourth grade level. Most primary students can not read and identify words such as 'stampede,' 'interrupted' 'humming' and 'platoon.' Because of this issue, the book is best as a read-aloud. Beyond this, there is no plot. While it loosely follows "The Phantom Menace," the reader must already know the story to make the connection. An interesting side note is that the book features two scenes that are a part of the Episode I story, but never made it into the film. One page, for example, shows when the Bongo (Gungan submarine) went over the Nubian waterfall. An author doesn't get a license to create poor literature just because a book is intended for young readers. Rather than create pop junk on the fly, the creators missed the opportunity to add to the cherished canon of children's Star Wars books.

4 out of 5 stars Good starter reader........1999-07-08

The plot is stronger than Dick and Jane, not quite at the Dr. Seuss level. But my 4-year-old loves the thing. He wants to read it - what more can one ask for a first reader than self-motivation? Good illustrations, basic vocabulary, frequent repetition, and not scary.

2 out of 5 stars Incoherent English for Pre-Schoolers?.......1999-05-23

I purchased this book yesterday, and while it certainly conforms to the category of 'Preschool', it is not a good book for your young son or daughter.

Plot: There is little or no plot. Jar Jar, akin to the film he is derived from, simply engages in a series of unrelated mishaps. This, ironically, might be taken as a Spoiler for the film, but it's not. Your child may find them entertaining, but if you want them to learn anything you are out of luck.

Language: The vocabulary is fine for the age group, and is (I would like to think) readable by a child that is just learning, but Jar Jar remains incoherent. It all depends on your taste; I prefer books for my toddler that have strong grammar, and _good English_ (or whichever language you prefer).

Moral: As with Plot, it's hard to find a moral or lesson in this book. If you just want to entertain your child with a recognizable character, this book won't hurt. If you want your child to learn anything besides how to interchange syllables in common words, look elsewhere.

                  Book Description

Everything You Need To Know About Sky Watching and The Solar System, In One Package.

Starry Night has been created to give amateur sky watchers an easy and logical survey of what there is to see in the heavens and how to find it. The book explains what's out there, from the planets and other objects in our Solar System, to the constellations that fill the night skies, to far-distant objects such as quasars and galaxy clusters. It explains in simple text how the objects move through and about the sky, and how the movements of the Earth help create this perception. Starry Night lists key information about all of the constellations in the northern and southern skies visible in winter and in summer. Many easy-to-apply instructions are placed throughout the book for easy reference, such as figuring astronomical distances, how to view a solar eclipse, how to determine where the planets are in any given month, when and where to observe meteor showers, and how stars are named.

But the book is only half of the package. Its companion, the Starry Night disk, graphically displays all of the night sky objects an observer might want to view, from our Moon to the far reaches of our galaxy, and way beyond. The disk gives you information about how to properly use, align and focus your telescope, and shows what you should be able to view. You can tour the Solar System, the Milky Way Galaxy, and the distant universe without ever leaving your living room. Or, you can use this information to align and focus your backyard telescope to find precisely the object or phenomenon you wish to view. Want to see the rings of Saturn, the Orion constellation or the Horsehead Nebula? Read about it, find it on the disk, and view it in your own backyard.
