Just the help you need when you're stuck.......2007-10-03
Wrtiers' block is common to all writers and is often a frustration that can hang you up. Inspiration is not done at the push of a button and writing creatively is not a matter of throwing a switch. How often I wish that such means did exist.
Fortunately for me I had the opportunity to meet Jamie and attend two of her workshops for creative writing. Jamie is a real 'pro.' She has exceptional skills in teaching the craft of writing and for nurturing the passion for writing. She achieves this with expertise by giving feedback, support and a share of her own enthusiasm for writing. Having participated in her exercises, I can vouche for the amazing results one can gain by using The Writers' Toolbox. I have shared Jamie's work with my adult writers group and find that sharing our five minute exercises really helps and affirms our desire for writing.
I would highly recommend The Writers' Toolbox to any writer at any age or for any writers' group. When you're stuck, this is the switch that you're looking for.

Writer's Toolbox: Addictively Fun and Useful!.......2007-09-12
How do you become a writer? By writing something of course. As any writer knows, coming up with fresh ideas is oftentimes the hardest part. This toolbox helps jumpstart the writing process by focusing on three different useful and unique approaches to building a story: sentence sticks, sixth-sense cards, and story wheel palettes.
With each set of tools, you are provided tidbits of information--story details--that need to be connected. It will be hard for you NOT to write whatever story starts flowing from your imagination.
To get yourself started, randomly pluck a first "sentence stick." Choose a second stick to reveal a transition. Pick your last stick to nail your climactic moment. It's as simple as that, but this cleverly packaged kit makes it addictively fun.
Still feeling a little intimidated by the writing process? Then shuffle up the sixth-sense deck of cards and then choose a few images to elicit sensory detail (smell, sight, sound, taste, touch, and memory) to create your story. The sixth-sense cards stimulate your ability to write specific imagery that will engage your reader.
For a full-blown diagnosis of writer's block, try using the palette wheels to structure your story. Spin the protagonist palette wheel and your character is instantly on the page. Expand that character with back-story. Rotate the goal palette to further develop your character as you uncover underlying desires and motivations. Twirl the obstacle palette to introduce tension or conflict in your story and ultimately push the plot forward. And finally, spin the action palette to clinch your story's climactic moment.
The packaging on this toolbox is so well done that I leave the writer's toolbox on my coffee table. Its clever design invites tactile responses from everyone. The hinged hardcover box neatly stores all the writing tools--a book, sentence sticks, a timer, a deck of sixth-sense cards, and four story wheels. Even friends of mine who aren't writers get a kick out of playing with the toolbox and making up impromptu stories.
I highly recommend this to creative types and those who long to be more creative!

Fun With Your Students, Fun With Your Family.......2007-09-03
I love the "Writer's Toolbox," a very cool way to develop creativity and writing skills in a game with almost endless variations. I've used many of the prompts with other writers - and non-writers - and we've had a blast using it. My favorite: everyone in the room takes the same prompts and, in about twenty minutes, writes their own story to it. It's hilarious to see how family and friends come up with such different stories, such different twists, each story unique. In the accompanying little book in the Toolbox, Jamie Cat Callan finds a way to give us the gems of creative writing succinctly, colorfully, and humorously. As a Clinical/School Psychologist in a middle school, I plan to use the "Toolbox" in an after-school club this year. I can't wait.

Jamie Callan was my long-time writer teaching and mentor. Her excersizes have been so helpful to my writing that years after taking her classes I have contacted her to find out the assignments she has given her class so I can do them too. Mr. Neal's first book on incense was an informative, in depth study of the fine art of making and burning incense. Unfortunately this book fails to live up to the success of the first book.
This book is shallow and uninspiring. Of course there is basic info concerning cauldrons, bells, and wands. . .ect however, one of the greatest flaws of this book is the fact that magick mirrors are not covered at all. How can anyone write about magickal tools and not discuss this topic?

Too airy fairy for me........2007-02-21
Sorry, but this one was a little too "airy fairy" for me. I bought it because of all the positive reviews on Amazon, but was disappointed. The CD was like a fairy tale told to children as was the text of the book.
I do believe in angels, but I would hope they would treat me like an adult, not some simple-minded child!

Enlightening and Healing.......2004-12-02
Angels Guide is such wonderful place to begin with a healing journey. It is as if the angels are speaking to you when you are reading the words. If you continue to pick it up you will notice the words change before your eyes. Her music and meditations are the most healing and comforting I have come across. Her work in person is even more amazing than her book. Have fun!

Ms. Womacks book is extremely helpful in the spiritual journey. It is also very useful as a daily guide. Also, the CD is wonderful. The first track is worth the price by itself.

These days I find it harder and harder to cope with the stresses of the world. As a man who thinks too much and does too little, "Mike's Tips" has provided me with a road map to not just get through the day, but get through it smiling.
Mike is obviously one of those men who walks the walk. The tools he provides come from experience so, while they may seem simple on the surface, they resonate deeply.
I love the insights and the humorous and light way they are presented. I also love how the book is broken up into sections, so I can easily digest a sample a morsel of wisdom whenever I need it, which is often.
If more men read Mike's Tips, the world would be a better place. I recommend this book highly.

Mike's Tips is full of inspirational gems for men and women alike. Ryan's involvement in the 12 step community in evident, as he weaves many of their basic tenets throughout his work. It is chock full of practical advice for living in an increasingly complex world. While his "tips" are practical, they are also inspiring, spiritual and (often) amusing. This is an easy read that is sure to help you find some peace in this chaotic journey we call life.

Exceptionally well done!.......2005-06-07
I have never seen anything quite like this. I have considered private coaching and I found this to be a good introduction to coaching. It was fun, as well as helpful in getting me to unpeel the many layers in myself. This is a way to have several life coaches work with you...at a small fraction of the cost. It is a workbook that you can put down and pick up again, as there are many hours of new and interesting techniques you can experience. I found the creative visualization CD's to be very good too...especially the "10 Minutes of Relaxation" & the "Parts Party". You will enjoy many hours of self-help with it!

Corn is among the most familiar of grains; it is also one of the most mysterious. In this handsomely illustrated new book, Paul Mangelsdorf, perhaps the world's foremost expert on the corn plant, summarizes the work of a lifetime devoted to unraveling the enigma of corn.
This unique grain--it has no close counterpart elsewhere in the plant kingdom--exists only in association with man, and it survives only as a result of his intervention. Thus, the story of corn is in many ways a story about people. Combining the skills of scientist and storyteller, Professor Mangelsdorf in his search for the origin of corn takes the reader to archaeological digs in once-inhabited caves in Mexico and the United States Southwest, to the discovery of fossil pollen in drill cores taken deep below Mexico City, and to experimental fields where the great diversity of corn is revealed and where the plant is hybridized with its relatives teosinte and Tripsacum.
Drawing upon the evidence from botany, genetics, cytology, archaeology, and history, the author seeks to evaluate various hypotheses on the origin of corn. He concludes that the ancestor of cultivated corn was a wild form of pod corn; that corn may have been domesticated more than once in both Mexico and South America from different geographical races of wild corn; and that hybridizations between corn and its various relatives have resulted in explosive evolution leading to a diversity of varieties and forms unmatched in any other crop plant.
This is a book about corn, but it is a book for biologists, agronomists, anthropologists, and historians, and for the interested layman who would like to know something about the grain which, "transformed, as three fourths of it is, into meat, milk, eggs, and other animal products, is our basic food plant, as it was of the people who preceded us in this hemisphere."

Interesting, in places fascinating reading, about one of the major plant foods. Corn, maize, whatever you call it, you can't escape its presence in the grocery store, in your home, in your business. A plant that appears to have chosen domestication, corn could not survive without human intervention, human agriculture.
