Business Basics Bestseller 1: The Easy, Interesting, Open-book Look at the Game of Business Numbers! 2nd Edition

If you are looking for a book to introduce you to the basics of business including the jargon behind the numbers and where all the formulas come from before you plow into a true "finance and accounting text," search for "Business Basics Bestseller 1" and add it to your consideration. If you have never had this stuff 'splained' to you before, you will like it. This is not a suggestion that you substitute it for this text, just that you check it out as well.

If you are to be studying Accounting and Finance as an auxiliary unit, this one is the best. It is written in an accessible style with not a little consideration for the needs of the student, yet quite a good amount of information is here.

Financial Accounting for Non Specialists is aimed at non-specialist students of accounting and finance on a first course in the subject. The book does not present the hurdle of double-entry bookkeeping at an early stage - students can progress through the book without double-entry. Illustrative case studies and reference to real-life business examples are used to bring the technical information to life. Financial Accounting for Non-specialists includes a large number of worked examples, to give students valuable practice in using their new skills. Introductory Accounting for Non-Specialists is aimed at a single-semester module in accounting and finance. The text provides a first-level look at financial and managerial accounting and basic finance for non-specialist students. The approach is to achieve a balance between the technical aspects and underlying concepts. The book is aimed at users of accounting information. Students (as future users of accounting information) need to understand the basic ideas and assumptions that lie behind the numbers. They do not need to become expert preparers of accounting information but should know enough of the mechanics to make sense of the sources of the numbers, and to understand how new information would change (for example) the profit/balance sheet position. The “quadrant” system of analyzing transactions is used as a model that allows non-specialists to develop an insight into how double-entry works. The overall key objective is to enable the reader to critically analyse and discuss both the external financial reporting and the internal management information aspects of accounting at an introductory level. In other words, having studied the book students should be able to understand and be able to apply the ideas and techniques presented and to evaluate the usefulness and limitations of them. The book is pedagogically well developed and includes learning objectives, tasks, examples, case studies, diagrams, summaries, review questions and exam questions. Answers are provided to the majority of the review and exam questions at the back of the book.

This book, for the first time, ties together physical processes across the full scale of the heliosphere. It is about the natural connections that exist between the various parts of the system.
