Major Disappointment.......2000-03-10

I expected a lot more from any book on this important subject for accountants and was very disappointed.

What I wanted was methods in which I could use the Internet to develop my practice. The marketing information was amateurish at best and although given a chapter was apparently deemed so insignificant that it was not even listed in the Index. As an accountant reading the book I could not follow the focus if there was any. An example is from the marketing chapter and talks about the small business characteristics of accounting firm members of the AICPA. I don't market to other accountants, I build my practice from among small business clients.

The information included does not seem to be well researched as the author writes about the Big Six when we all know it's the Big Five. Sure it's a small point but it challenges the credibility of the content.

What this book should be titled is a Dummies' Accountant's Guide to the Internet. As a second edition it should have been much better.

Machine management selection, operation and maintenance.......2000-05-03

An excellent guide to the costing, performance calculation and operation of farm machinery. The text is written extremely well and is easy to comprehend. Topics include machine performance, power performance, operator performance, costs, power and equipment selection, most farm operations are included. Only critism is that the computer programs are in Basic language (Excell would be prefered). Although principally for students of farm machine management, it would prove useful for any consultants or contractors dealing with farm machiney.

The Physics of Solar and Stellar Coronae provides the first comprehensive summary of the physical processes and phenomena occurring in solar and stellar coronae as observed at X-ray and other wavelengths. The book provides an early summary of the spectacular new solar X-ray observations being obtained with the Yohkoh satellite that are dramatically changing our understanding of the dynamics of the solar corona. With the perspective of two years' observations at X-ray and extreme ultraviolet wavelengths by the ROSAT satellite, many authors present new insights into the basic physical processes occurring in the coronae of stars across the Hertzsprung--Russell Diagram including both pre-main sequence and post-main sequence stars.
Detailed models for the hot plasmas typically contained in magnetic loops in both stellar and solar coronae are presented to explain X-ray data obtained with the earlier X-ray instruments on Skylab, SMM, Einstein, and EXOSAT. The book includes papers on coronal observations obtained at other wavelengths and papers of the history of Palermo Astronomical Observatory.
The Physics of Solar and Stellar Coronae is intended for researchers in the fields of solar physics and stellar astrophysics and will be a useful resource book for graduate level astrophysics courses.
