the best accounting book I have ever had.......2006-04-26
the book is well written in the sense that it provides background information (such as how people were debating on accounting standards, how FASB worked out compromising solutions) to help you understand the logic behind the accounting standards. It is not like many other accounting books, which focus mainly on how to prepare accounts. This book tells you why to do so, then how to do.
Good thorough Accounting book.......2001-07-05
I have already owned a few books about Accounting, such as the one I used to use at college and other ones during my MBA. But, they are not as thorough as this book is. This book is so thorough that I will probably be able to use it for my future reference at work.

Intermediate Accounting, 10th Edition.......2005-09-24
This book is designed in a simple and understandable way. The author has included so many practical case studies in this book. Important topics and Accounting Terms have been presented so effectively and the whole presentation is excellent.
Not a good fanatic of it.......2003-08-10
The chapters are ok.I had to carry this book almost everyday to class!; its so big and heavy. And I also didn't like the examples and excersises of it because you can't barely understand them.
Intermediate Accounting by Kieso and Weygandt.......2003-07-19
This text was utilized by me in graduate school and in studying
for and passing the Uniform CPA Examination. The work has
a thorough coverage of theory and practice. It is geared for
accounting majors or more advanced business students.
Few texts provide the "bold-font" presentation of an accounting
term followed by the accompanying definition. The problem sets
are challenging. The text will help you to study for the CPA
examination because the presentation contains many problem
sets geared to prepare students for rigorous examinations.
The text is well worth the price .
USC Accounting School.......2003-01-06
I'm at the Leventhal school of accounting. This is the book we use in our intermediate accounting class. I found the Problem Solving survival guides that came with the book to be invaluable. This is an awesome accounting text.
There is no other like it.......2002-10-21
When it comes to Intermediate Accounting, this book provides a better framework than any other period. I used the 9th edition while in College, and have re-ordered the 10th edition for the CPA exam. Quite frankly, not even the great Becker Convisor is as good as this book. Maybe I find it better than others because this is what I had used while taking intermidiate accounting. I have looked at other textbooks, and they could not match Mr. Keiso's textbook in organization nor could they match it in ability to explain complex issues in an easy to understand manner. This book should be in any employee's office who must deal with accounting issues and needs guidance occasinaly. I must warn you, this edition is outdated as there have been many changes since the Sarbanes-Oxley act was passed by congress. So, you may want to wait until the 11th edition comes out, as that will master all of the changes that have occured in the industry since ENRON and WORLDCOM's collapse.
If you are someone who feels overwhelmed by the entire subject, this book will organize it into compartments and allow you to understand not only the entire framework, but the details as well.

Book Description
As we move from the industrial age to the information age, the key to the competitive success of organizations becomes the application and development of specialized knowledge and competencies. Based on research and practice, Managing Knowledge addresses a wide area of issues concerning knowledge management, ranging from knowledge transfer and developments between organizations, to knowledge management within organizations. Divided into two parts, this volume reflects a fundamental conceptual distinction between two worldviews. The first part contains chapters characterized by "representationism," or traditional approaches to viewing knowledge transfer and cooperative strategies; the second part comprises chapters characterized by "antirepresentationism," or new perspectives on knowledge and knowledge transfer in organizational cooperation. Contrasting established approaches with new thinking on knowledge as an organizational resource, Managing Knowledge will be important and stimulating reading for academics and students in strategic management and general management studies.

Encyclopedia of the Solar System, Second Edition
ASIN: 0412051818 |
Book Description
This introduction to planetary geology concentrates on the surface features of the planets and satellites of our Solar System. The author first discusses the primary processes that shape our planet, Earth, and the geomorphology of the objects in the Solar System. The second edition includes new information about Venus and a new chapter on Neptune. The book is beautifully illustrated with high-resolution black-and-white photographs from recent space probes and orbiting spacecraft, and with explanatory diagrams. Each chapter starts with a description of the general physiography and terrain units, then the geomorphic processes that created them are discussed. Finally a synopsis of the geologic evolution of the surface is given. The selected references at the end include original papers, review articles and books.
Customer Reviews:
An excellent introductory book on planetary geology.......1997-03-17
This book is written by a world class planetary geologist. In it, he has done an excellent job of bringing together the diverse threads of the planetary geology. The book is written on an introductory level, and so the language is not so technical that a novice cannot follow it. However, it might be helpful for the reader who has no background to read another introductory text first (this would then act as an 'upper level' introductory text). The book is strewn with quarter to full page photographs from the various space missions to the planets--and indeed, it is the best illustrated introductory text available. The author does provide a good overview of all the geological processes and imaging technology in his initial chapters, which is then followed by his descriptions of the planets. Overall, this text gets a very good recommendation, and readers will find themselves engrossed in the spectacular photography for hours on end

Description:
The inception of the Antarctic Ice Sheet at around 34 Ma followed a period of globally warm climatic conditions. The efficacy of glacial erosion since this time is modelled using BEDMAP Antarctic digital elevation data and seismically estimated offshore sediment volumes to derive a DEM of the preglacial topography. Using a GIS, sediment is 'virtually backstacked' on to the present-day topography under dynamic ice sheet conditions to produce a model of the preglacial landscape of the Lambert basin area in East Antarctica. Survival of a preglacial river valley system under the ice suggests that glacial modification of the Lambert region has been modest. The Lambert Graben has focussed erosion for the last 118 million years. Morphometric analysis of the modelled preglacial and present-day subglacial topographies shows parallels with present-day drainage systems in Africa and Australia. We calculate that average rates of glacial and fluvial erosion for the last 118 million years have been similar and are ca. 1-2 m Myr^-^1 and ca. 0.89-1.79 m Myr^-^1 respectively.

Description:
A set of 13 new unspiked K-Ar dates has been obtained for the Quaternary basaltic volcanism in the Kula area of western Turkey, providing improved age control for the fluvial deposits of the Gediz River that underlie these basalt flows. This dating is able, for the first time, to resolve different ages for the oldest basalts, assigned to category @b2, that cap the earliest Gediz deposits recognised in this area, at altitudes of ~140 to ~210 m above present river level. In particular, the @b2 basalt capping the Sarnic Plateau is dated to 1215+/-16 ka (+/-2@s), suggesting that the youngest underlying fluvial deposits, ~185 m above present river level, are no younger than marine oxygen isotope stage (MIS) 38. In contrast, the @b2 basalt capping the adjacent Burgaz Plateau is dated to 1014+/-23 ka, suggesting that the youngest underlying fluvial deposits, ~140 m above present river level, date from MIS 28. The staircase of 11 high Gediz terraces capping the latter plateau is thus dated to MIS 48-28, assuming they represent consecutive ~40 ka Milankovitch cycles, although it is possible that as many as two cycles are missing from this sequence such that the highest terrace is correspondingly older. Basalt flows assigned to the @b3 category, capping Gediz terraces ~35 and ~25 m above the present river level, have been dated to 236+/-6 ka and 180+/-5 ka, indicating incision rates of ~0.15 mm a^-^1, similar to the time-averaged rates since the eruptions of the @b2 basalts. The youngest basalts, assigned to category @b4, are Late Holocene; our K-Ar results for them range from zero age to a maximum of 7+/-2 ka. This fluvial incision is interpreted using numerical modelling as a consequence of uplift caused by a regional-scale increase in spatial average erosion rates to ~0.1 mm a^-^1, starting at ~3100 ka, caused by climate deterioration, since when a total of ~410 m of uplift has occurred. Parameters deduced on this basis from the observed disposition of the Early Pleistocene Gediz terraces include the local effective viscosity of the lower crust, which is ~2x10^1^8 Pa s, the Moho temperature of ~660 ^oC, and the depth of the base of the brittle upper crust, which is ~13 km. The thin lithosphere in this area results in high heat flow, causing this relatively shallow base of the brittle upper crust and the associated relatively thick lower-crustal layer, situated between depths of ~13 and ~30 km. It estimated that around 900 ka, at the start of the ~100 ka Milankovitch forcing, the spatial average erosion rate increased slightly, to ~0.12 mm a^-^1; the associated relatively sluggish variations in uplift rates are as expected given the relatively thick lower-crustal layer. This modelling indicates that the growth of topography since the Pliocene in this study region has not involved a steady state. The landscape was significantly perturbed by the Middle Pliocene increase in erosion rates, and has subsequently adjusted towards-but not reached-a new steady state consistent with these increased erosion rates. It would not be possible to constrain what has been occurring from the Middle to Late Pleistocene or even the Early Pleistocene uplift response alone; information regarding the starting conditions is also essential, this being available in this region from the older geological record of stacked fluvial and lacustrine deposition. This result has major implications for the rigorous modelling of uplift histories in regions of rapid erosion, where preservation of information to constrain the starting conditions is unlikely.

Description:
Dendrogeomorphologic approaches were used to study hillslope erosion and valley floor dynamics in a small drainage basin in the Colorado Plateau of northeastern Arizona, U.S.A. Root exposure in pinyon pines indicated hillslope erosion averaged 1.9mm/yr over the last 400yr, but erosion has been highly episodic. Negative increment growth anomalies in hillslope trees are interpreted as the consequence of rapid aerial exposure of roots by erosion. During the last 300yr, two of three major episodes of these growth anomalies occurred after abrupt transitions from prolonged, multi-year droughts to sustained, lengthy periods of above-average precipitation. The most recent episode of these growth anomalies began within a few years after 1905 and was associated with the largest precipitation shift (drought to wet interval) in the last 400yr. In contrast to trees on eroding hillslopes, increment growth of trees in more geomorphically stable landscape positions closely tracked the regional precipitation signal. Two major alluvial fills on the adjacent valley floor are also linked to the abrupt changes in precipitation regimes and the associated increases in delivery of runoff and sediments from slopes. The clay-cemented sandstones weather rapidly; rapid weathering and sediment production make slopes highly responsive to decadal precipitation changes. Significant vegetation declines on slopes during extreme drought make hillslope soils more prone to erosion if heavy precipitation follows soon thereafter.
