Customer Reviews:
If you have only one training book to keep...........2003-05-28
I found Eitington's The Winning Trainer the best of the category. If you were to have only one training book for limited space available for your suitcase, I recommend this. Actually, when I leave my office for an overseas assignment, The Winning Trainer is always my companion. It is comprehensive and practical. Yes, it is the reference for active trainers.
A Trainer's Bible.......2001-08-16
No one in the training field or doing anything even close (teachers take note!) should be without this book. I started workshops for high school students and have done exhaustive research, and spent a great deal of money. This book is by far one of the most outstanding resources anyone could have. I have covered mine to keep it from tattering, since I use it constantly in planning. It is so comprehensive...you can start with just a subject/topic...and find dozens of ways to present it. You can be a novice, or an experienced professional and benefit from this book. I simply don't have the words to express how valuable it has been to me. It is a gold mine of information about the teaching and learning processes.
The best overall resource for the training professional........1999-05-10
This is an encyclopedia in one volume for the training professional -- one you can't do without. In clear, concise language the Eitington provides the concepts and ideas to prepare the learning environment, involve the participants, deliver content, and evaluate the learning experience. You won't find another book like it anywhere!
Excellent design resource!!.......1998-12-21
This is an excellent resource for new and experienced designers and trainers. The book contains HUNDREDS of ideas for active, interesting, meaningful learning. EVERYONE in the learning field should own this book.

Excellent! The Bible of Training - Old and New Testament!.......1998-09-22
For a new trainer, this tome has proven to be an invaluable source of ideas, inspiration, examples, watch-outs, suggestions, and additional resources. Without this book, my first training sessions would have been lackluster meanderings into unfamiliar (and dangerous) territory. Mr Eitington's suggestions, guidelines and examples served to help me structure and flesh-out my seminar to be a strong success. The book is clearly organized with both a Table of Contents and an Index, and every chapter is broken down into relevant, digestible chunks. This guide focuses only a little on actually setting up and starting a training, in favor of creating a great deal of detail on training techniques, scenarios, and tools. The copiable sheets (for everything from pre-work to team games to feedback) 1included at the end of the book also provide much creative fodder, as well as saving a great deal of time. Of the five training guides I have, this is the one I use more than 80% of the time.

How to get all three "legs" of success right and then in proper alignment.......2006-09-27
In the Preface, Faisal Hoque recalls a time (1999) when he observed that in company after company "how haphazradly people managed technology, particularly technology spending. The business principles they applied in other areas were not being applied to technology...In many firms it was bought and deployed on a hope anbd a prayer...I became convinced that business executives and technology executives still viewed each other across a chasm, even if they were now sitting at the same table. Only when they took off their business or technology hats and worked together to build the business could they succeed."
That description still applies to many organizations today. For their decision-makers, this volume offers invaluable information and counsel as they struggle to achieve effective convergence of business and technology and then manage it, a process as difficult as competing and winning in a "three-legged race." The metaphor is apt. Speed alone is insufficient. Balance is also essential, as are determination and endurance. The first step in the process is to "get BTM on the execxutive agenda" and understand what BTM is and can do; determine strategic positions and make the right investments; agree on "who's in charge"; and complete other preparations, meanwhile sustaining effective communication, cooperation, and collaboration between and among everyone involved.
The authors organize their material within two main sections. In Part I, they examine business technology management (BTM) at the most strategic levels, where the board, CEO, and entire senior management team must be actively involved if an organization expects to be successful. In Part II, they delve deeper into specific issues central to combining and coordinating business and technology initiatives in proper alignment with the given strategy. Readers will appreciate the provision of an "Executive Agenda" section at the conclusion of each chapter which reviews and summarizes key points, and also suggests what "next steps" should be taken. Here in a single volume is a rigorous and thorough examination of "The BTM Standard": a set of guiding principles that create a seamless management approach based on 17 essential capabilities grouped into four functional areas: governance and organization, managing technology investments, strategy and planning, and strategic enterprise architecture.

Insufficient superlatives for this one........2000-03-07
Without a doubt, Ross Staaden's book is the best book on race horses and race horse training written. I was particularly taken with the section on Tommy Smith, leading trainer in Australia 33 years in a row. Staaden took everything from the horses mouth, so to speak, as he interviewed extensively the trainers he most skillfully writes about. If you want to know how the best do it, this is your book.
Here is a riveting "close-up" look at high-level training........1999-07-09
A dynamite book! Here's an inside look at a select group of top trainers, their methods, and how they got where they are. Read the captivating details of their professional and personal lives!
This fascinating work resulted from years of intensive reporting and interviewing. The author, a veterinary PhD with a solid racetrack background knew what to look for and what to ask!
All important subjects are covered: training methods, selection and purchasing strategies, management skills, their perpectives on drug use, and much more! Here is a riveting "close-up" look at high level Thoroughbred, Standardbred, and Quarter Horse racing. See inside the operations and the minds! Profusely illustrated, including many color photos.
It includes leading trainers of Thoroughbreds, Standardbreds, and Quarter Horses. The story on D. Wayne Lukas alone is worth the price! You'll see the good and the bad, and some things will astound you. You'll learn a lot, be surprised and fascinated. But whatever your reactions--you won't put this book down!

Book Description
The FAST-EDGE Fitness Plan will give you the tools necessary for living a healthy lifestyle. There are no gym memberships necessary because this book teaches you how to live healthy from the comforts of your own home. It will, undoubtedly, inspire and motivate you to reach new heights in both exercise and nutrition. With the ever-growing number of "quick fix" diet books out on the market today, this book is the complete opposite. It teaches you to gradually add one day of exercise and nutrition every two weeks, thereby, easing your way to a healthier living. Most diets require a drastic change in lifestyle, which is always the recipe for failure. The human body has to learn to adapt to a new program over time as opposed to being shocked from the start. Each exercise circuit is only twenty-minutes in duration- THAT'S IT! It also provides a list of "good" carbohydrate, protein and fats so you could choose and design your own menu plans. Remember, you don't need a health club to be health-y!

Book Description
Healthy soils are key to producing good harvests with minimal pest problems. How to create that balanced soil ecosystem, however, remains a challenge for even the most experienced growers.
Building Soils for Better Crops unlocks the secret of maintaining a diverse ecosystem below ground to foster healthy crops above. Ecological soil management, as detailed by the soil experts who wrote the book, can raise fertility and yields while reducing environmental impacts. The 240-page Building Soils contains detailed information about soil structure and the management practices that affect soils, as well as practical information like how to interpret soil test results.
Some of the soil-building strategies include:
Increasing soil organic matter Using appropriate tillage Incorporating animal manures Making and using composts Integrating cover crops into rotations Reducing erosion Methods to avoid and decrease soil compaction

Book Description
Farmers and gardeners face all sorts of difficulties in the course of growing crops—weeds and insect pests, low levels of fertility, lack of water, soil compaction, and erosion of topsoil. Usually seen as separate issues and dealt with individually, weeds, insects, nematodes, and plant diseases are controlled by pesticides; nutrient deficiencies are overcome through use of commercial fertilizers; drought stress is mitigated through irrigation; and compacted layers of soil are broken up by machinery. But all of these problems can be eliminated, or at least alleviated, by proper soil management that emphasizes organic matter build-up and maintenance.
At the forefront of a reawakening interest in sustainable agriculture, this book is written for farmers, gardeners, extension specialists, and others interested in the practical stewardship of our natural resources. Fred Magdoff, noted for his expertise in soil fertility, presents the latest information on soil organic matter and explains modern management techniques along with the best of the older practices. He opens with a discussion of the nature of organic matter and its function in the soil and then reviews practices for building up and maintaining soil organic matter, including reduced tillage, residue management, and crop rotations. A final selection offers an overview of the dynamics and chemistry of organic matter.

Book Description
The x-ray satellite ROSAT, launched in 1990, has made a new universe visible. It has discovered over 120,000 x-ray sources and allowed us for the first time to look in new ways at stellar explosions, galactic collisions, extremely compact pulsars, black holes, and quasars that shine 10,000 times more strongly than the brightest galaxy. It has detected x-rays from Comet Hyakutake and from the Moon. ROSAT is one of the most successful scientific instruments ever launched. In The Invisible Sky, two of the scientists who were instrumental in the design and launching of the satellite team up with a well-known science journalist to chronicle the beginnings, early failures, planning and construction, and deployment of this most famous of x-ray observatories. They describe the cutting-edge science being done with it and show many of the most spectacular color images it has generated. This beautifully illustrated book is the first to describe for lay readers one of the most rmearkable instruments in modern astronomy.
