This book was OK, 10 editions ago when there were few competitors. However, currently there are several introductory Accounting books which handle the subject matter in a more topical and more interesting fashion. Skip this one!

It turns you upside down.......1998-09-04
Lori A. Colomeda has come up with a book which challenges *our euro-centred* mind. She's the kind of person you wish to do the studies she does: compassionate and scientific at the same time. Environmental and women's health have never been brought together as in this book. Rachel Carson looked at mainland America, Lori Colomeda's focus goes a bit further up North, but nonetheless, she tells us as horrific stories as Rachel Carson did way back in 1962.

Excellent choice as a follow up to Rachel Carson's work.......1999-07-02

This is another book by an amazing woman: she covers "both sides" and she does it well. This is a book with frightening news, and the unfortunate thing is, the news won't get any better unless we, i.e. White Man, learn to change the way we do business in each and every domain. Looks like Colomeda wants to tell us to change. Looks like we will have substantial difficulties to follow her advice. But it's just that difference which makes the book a valuable read ... get it now.

THE Definitive Work on Galaxies.......2006-12-28
Binney has cleary established Galactic Dynamics and its companion volume Galactic Astronomy as the definitive works on the subject. The NASA Astronomy Abstract Service lists 3411 citations for this book as of 12/2006 so it is clearly an important part of the literature of astrophysics.
This book is written at the graduate or researcher level. As it deals with the behavior of galaxies, potential theory, energy distribution, angular momentium and dark matter so the mathematics employed are quite powerful.

This volume reviews recent progress in the study of dynamics of star clusters. The meeting focused on the enormous progress of both the observation and the theoretical modeling of star clusters. New results from the refurbished Hubble Space Telescope (HST) include the mass function down to the hydrogen burning limits, white dwarf sequence, and central density profiles of `post-collapse' clusters by star counts. On the theoretical side, this symposium saw the first direct evidence of gravothermal oscillation through
N-body simulation, which was made possible by GRAPE-4, the dedicated special-purpose computer for
N-body simulation. Numerical techniques to combine stellar evolution and dynamical evolution of the cluster were presented.
The book will be of primary interest to astrophysicists.
