    This book is so chock full of info on dealing with difficult people. It goes beyond the obvious and gets to the root causes of the actions some people take, and how you can best combat them. I would recommend this book for anyone. Not just business persons, but anyone dealing with the public. It can even help with interpersonal relationships.

      I bought this cassette very new, and I think that like other people, I too found the recording to be unacceptable.

      The subject matter was quite interesting, and gave me an insight of what is going on in other people's mind when they behave in a certain way. Most importantly, it has made me realize that I may have been a pain in the neck to other people, without necessarily intending to be one. I know that people around me mostly tell me that I am a very reasonable person, but after reading the book, I am more conscious now whenever I spend negative energy after being frustrated with someone or something. I try to focus on getting results out of the frustration I am showing towards someone, instead of focussing merely on demonstrating my displeassure.

      Although the content is interesting and well spoken, the recording of the cassette was defective: I found little pieces of plastic inside the cassette that interfered with the recording process, therefore the final result is a mess.       After reading several other books by various authors on how to deal with difficult people, I found the Gees book to go beyond all expectations. It is a way of life we can all engage in to make our own personal world and this world we live in a better place. This book is not about changing others but how we can change our own perspective regarding other people and events. It gives us control over our own life which is good since we all know we cannot control others. The greatest thing about the Gees wisdom is that it will not cost us anything except the price of the book to learn how to "Switch". Yet, the rewards are immense both personally and professionally for anyone or any corporation who takes the time to practice the "Switch". Thank you Val and Jeff!!

        "How to Deal with Difficult People" is a useful book to read as we often meet and have to do business or live with difficult people. Maybe, we are the difficult people and therefore we need to recognise ourselves so that we can learn how to change ourselves for the good of everybody.

        The author starts by urging readers to understand themselves and others. For example, knowing that you are a Type A or Type B person helps you understand what you need to do to relate well and appropriately with others. The various styles of behaviour and types of problem people are explored. The author provides practical advice on how to properly handle conflict, communicate effectively, learn to say "no" where necessary and appropriate, dealing with complaints and coping with authority. For those in authority, the author provides guidance on how position power can be appropriately exercised without being overbearing or causing undue stress and anxiety to subordinates. Those in authority need to learn to achieve optimal results through other people. The book concludes with a step-by-step guide to dealing with difficult people.

        All managers, customer service agents and any person who needs to improve their relationships with others need to read this book and put into practice the various practical tips suggested by the author.

        The book is well written in plain English making it easy to follow by anyone who can read the language. I enjoyed reading the book.

          Most people will run into coworkers, subordinates, and bosses whose behaviors are sometimes very irritating. Often these people will not know that they are annoying anyone else, or don't see the consequences. This excellent book describes a process you can use to identify the source of these behaviors and to work out a solution with the person that will be good for both of you.

          Reminding the reader that "the only person over whom you exercise any significant control is yourself," the author goes on to point out that it is hard to change yourself. So the most you can hope for is for the other person to agree to try to change.

          There is an excellent quiz in the book that will help you identify more about your own personality and those of the people you work with along the dimensions of being in or out of control, and being responsive or unresponsive to others. People who are in control and responsive usually do not cause many difficulties. Those with the other combinations of characteristics do.

          You are then encouraged to chart the behaviors that you approve of that the person does and the ones that cause problems. You should only tackle the ones where the potential gain is worth the effort.

          Having determined where you want to encourage changes, a process is described for how to discuss this with the other person: Ask for their help. Give feedback on your reaction to the behavior and how it harms you and the organization. Be constructive in suggesting how the behavior might be changed, and point out the benefit for them. Let the other person decide if they want to try to change or not. Expect some feedback on your own behaviors, and be prepared to listen actively and consider changing yourself. Your own behavior may be triggering the behavior that drives you wild! Come up with an action plan that is a consensus. Obviously, this is easier to do if you are the boss, but there are ideas for how to handle this if you are the subordinate.

          The book also has a case study in it, with some sample dialogues for handling the key conversations.

          The book also warns you about ultra difficult people (those whose behavior goes to neurotic extremes like those with chronic depression, hyper people, manic-depressives and those who like to play ego-serving head games). These people may not be able to participate. The author suggests going to the ultra difficult person's boss as the first step and describing the problem.

          Many people are overwhelmed by irritating behaviors, and procrastinate about handling the situation. This is often based on feeling unsure about what to do. This excellent guide will bust that stall for you.

                      This textbook is a general introduction to the dynamics of astrophysical fluids for students with a knowledge of basic physics at the undergraduate level. No previous knowledge of fluid dynamics or astrophysics is required because the author develops all new concepts in context. The first four chapters cover classical fluids, relativistic fluids, photon fluids and plasma fluids, with many cosmic examples being included. The remaining six chapters deal with astrophysical applications: stars, stellar systems, astrophysical plasmas, cosmological applications, and large scale structure of the universe. Astrophysical fluid dynamics is a promising branch of astronomy, with wide applicability. This textbook considers the role of plasma and magnetism in planets, stars, galaxies, the interplanetary, interstellar and intergalactic media, as well as the universe at large.

                      This is purportedly a text on astrophysical hydrodynamics at the advanced undergraduate level, but there is no way that anyone should seriously consider using this as a text or an introductory reference. The author is really all over the place with this book. The first four chapters nominally cover the basics, but the chapters are Classical Fluids, Relativistic Fluids, Photon Fluids, and Plasma Fluids. All of classical hydrodynamics, including the basic equations, viscosity, turbulence, and other subjects, are presented in the first 38 pages. Any one of these chapters could be the basis of a textbook at the advanced undergraduate level. The subsequent chapters deal with specific astrophysical applications, concentrating mostly on stellar structure and cosmology. For good measure, there is a bit of radiative transfer thrown in as well. There are no problems for the student. Overall, this would be a really poor text for an undergraduate course, and at $90.00 a copy from Amazon, definitely not worth the money even as a reference on the bookshelf for a professional. The only reason that I don't give this one star is that there are a few interesting discussions of detailed problems in the later chapters that may be of use to an advanced student. A student working through this book won't have any idea how to solve a real problem in astrophysical hydrodynamics. Don't bother.

                        This book is a valuable introduction to astrophysical plasmas and fluids for graduate students of astronomy preparing either for a research career in the field or just aspiring to achieve a decent degree of familiarity with 99% of the cosmos. The contents provide a true representation of the phenomenal diversity of dominant roles that plasmas and fluids play in the near and far reaches of the universe. The breadth of coverage of basic physical processes is a particularly attractive feature of this textbook. By first using the Liouville equation to derive the kinetic, the two-fluid and single-fluid, descriptions of a plasma and a fluid, and then demonstrating the use of these descriptions for specific situations in the rest of the book, the author has probably chosen the most efficient way of handling this large technical subject. The two major astrophysical issues, fluid or plasma configurations and their radiative signatures, figure prominently throughout the book. The problems are designed to give the reader a feel for the quantitative properties of celestial objects.
