1 out of 5 stars Very boring!!! to read this until the end.......2004-04-15

This is the first book that I stopped reading in the middle. The authors seem to know a lot about cost management and other tools. However, the way to link them together and present in a logical way may be the big problem for this book. It's like a book that reviewed all management new ideas i.e. ABC, BSC, TQM .... and tried to link to the concept of cost management system. But I would say that it really didn't work!!!!!

          5 out of 5 stars Revolutionary!.......2007-02-08

This is an exceptional sales management book! I found it, read it, called the company and used their service. I don't know what the problem is with those other two reviewers. Obviously, they don't run sales teams. The author perfectly descibes the real-world problems sales managers face when hiring salespeople and building a salesforce. The problems are real and his solutions are right on target. I highly recommend this book to any "legitimate" sales management executive or business owner who wants to fix problem salespeople.

5 out of 5 stars Great handbook for sales managers.......2006-12-15

If you are responsible for hiring, training or developing a sales team, this book has great information for what to look for beneath the surface. Using an assessment tool is now a necessity for the hiring process and the author describes what attributes make up a great sales person. Very useful information.

          1 out of 5 stars Be Warned.......2006-11-17

i don't have a problem with authors who write books to hawk their consulting/seminar companies. but this guy took it well past a reasonable boundary in doing so. on the positive side, you can read this book in an hour.
on the down side, there is no value - i mean NO value - included between the covers. table of contents looks good, but the material has no substance and the whole thing is one big tease. spend your hard earned money elsewhere.

1 out of 5 stars Do not buy.......2006-11-10

This book is a sales pitch for the authors services. Do not be fooled by the title it is poorly written and does not contain any useful information one could use without buying his services. A total waste of money.

                Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars a must for all Bankers who shy away from IT.......2001-12-18

being an IT professional and new to banking technology, the book gave me a good understanding of the areas where information technolgy is useful. It also gave me an idea of how to make the top business executives in banks, aware of their roles in the technolgy revolution. The book stresses on the need for mutual understanding and appreciation that should exist between the business executives and the IT professionals in the banks. This has been explained quite well. The action plan checklist given at the end of every chapter is an excellent idea. However, I found the various architecture principles and models quoted in the book a bit vague and brief.

Outstanding reference book. The chapters on biomedical waste management and incineration crisply and coherently describe the problems and concerns and provide excellent examples to underscore the author's points. Mr Turnberg fills in a gap that has long been missing: a single text that covers all the issues related to this complex and controversial field.

                  Book Description

Observing the sun is one of the most interesting and rewarding facets of astronomy to which amateurs can contribute meaningful data. It is the one branch of astronomy that requires only modest equipment and that can be pursued during the day. Peter Taylor, long-time chairman of the Solar Division of the American Association of Variable Star Observers, is a keen and highly experienced observer of the Sun. In this book he explains in a clear and practical way everything that a telescope user needs to know in order to make solar observations. The book deals with such topics as the historical background of solar observing, choice of equipment for the safe conduct of solar observations, observations of sunspots, and reporting observations. New techniques, such as electronic recording and the operations of radio telescopes, are also included. The level of presentation is understandable to anyone with basic astronomical knowledge and some experience in handling a small telescope.

                  Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Excellent for beginner solar observers.......2000-03-22

This book contains almost everything you need to get initiated in the fascinating area of solar astronomy. Beginning from a historical review, the author makes a thorough exposition of the elements of solar observation (what is to be observed, how to do it), and even proposes some interesting projects that can easily be carried out by amateurs.

                    Book Description

The Sun is the closest star to Earth, and the only one we can observe in any sort of detail. As such it is a fascinating field of study, and one that is well-suited to amateur astronomers - the Sun is close enough to need little magnification. It also has the practical advantage, unlike every other astronomical object, of being visible in the daytime!
During solar eclipses, there are momentary chances to observe and photograph some spectacular and scientifcally interesting sights.
Studying the Sun nonetheless needs specialist knowledge. Safety is paramount, as without the right precautions the heat and light of the Sun would instantly blind the observer. But given the right techniques, the Sun is a rewarding subject for amateur astronomers: in this book, Professor Chris Kitchin provides all the information needed for safe solar observing.

                      Book Description

This is the ultimate, easy-to-read guide for "eclipse-chasers".

Eclipse chasers are now numbered in the tens of thousands. Every total solar eclipse sees dozens of cruise ships, each with about a thousand people on board, steaming along the track of the eclipse. Tens of thousands of observers travel to the eclipse track on land, to witness these rare astronomical events.

There are some important eclipses coming up in the years ahead: in 2008 August across Siberia, and then through the Gobi Desert. In 2009, there is a 6 minute 38 second eclipse (very long) in China, south of Japan, and the Pacific Ocean. There will be two more big ones in the south Pacific in 2010 and 2012, then in 2017 there is a solar eclipse that will be visible right across the USA.

The technology available to amateur astronomers is improving fast. Recent additions are low-cost white-light solar binoculars, and the new generation of affordable H-Alpha telescopes. These can of course be used to view prominences without an eclipse taking place, and the book includes something of this too.

This new book will in fact include everything an eclipse chaser needs. It will make it possible to prevent expensive equipment/set-up errors thousands of miles from home, and avoid problems that have to be fixed with only minutes to spare. It advises on the right equipment to buy for observing and for imaging [digital only]. It provides "eclipse virgins" with a good feeling for what a trip abroad to an eclipse is like – including a humorous look at all the things that can go wrong, and in previous expeditions, have.

Travel details are included, essential in these days of high-security and when equipment has to be carried in a standard 20kg suitcase and 5kg cabin bag.

And of course the first part of the book contains a wealth of information about solar eclipses: how and why they happen, the physics of the Sun and solar system, and what can be observed only during a total eclipse.

                          Book Description

The Sun provides amateur astronomers with one of the few opportunities for daytime astronomy.

In order to see the major features of our nearest star, special telescopes that have a very narrow visible bandwidth are essential. The bandwidth has to be as narrow as 1 × 10 -10 m (1 Angstrom) and centred on the absorption line of neutral hydrogen. This makes many major features of the Sun’s chromosphere visible to the observer. Such narrow-band "Fabry-Perot etalon filters" are high technology, and until the introduction of the Coronado range of solar telescopes, were too expensive for amateur use. The entry-level Coronado telescope, the PST (Personal Solar Telescope) costs under $500.

Solar prominences (vast columns of plasma, best seen at the edge of the solar disk), filaments, flares, sunspots, plage and active regions are all visible and can be imaged to produce spectacular solar photographs. Philip Pugh has assembled a team of contributors who show just how much solar work can be done with Coronado telescopes, and explain how to get the best from these marvellous instruments.
