I read the one review on this book and I don't agree. I think if you don't know anything about accounting information systems this book might appear to be scattered. However, if you have some exposure to AIS(Accounting Information Systems) you'll immediately recognize the flow of topics is typical of the subject. The author is very thorough and organized in his coverage and gives required insight. A book about AIS is not going to read like an accounting textbook, nor are the topics going to be mastered in the same way. I really liked the book. I originally read the library's copy, but I bought my own because it was so good and I wanted a copy.

This book is very disorganized. One chapter is flowcharts, next is viruses, next is flowcharts, lets talk about sarbanes oaxley and than flow charts again, now maybe some discussion about SAP and reducing clerical costs then some ERP architecture.
Where they just throwing darts at a piece of paper with topics?
Also, no attempt at a solutions manual to the poorly worded questions. Poorly worded questions which also content wise where pretty stupid, (ie bob notices 50$ missing from his petty cash fund every week, he leaves the counter and he has many people manning the store including janitors. What are preventive controls he can implement)

some interesting stuff, but..........2006-08-10
there's some interesting stuff in here, particularly in the area of computer forensics. but the book jumps all over the place. it starts with an good story of a real forensic raid (i beleive just the names were changed to protect the innocent), but abruptly switches to entirely unrelated situations. it eventually drops the storyline altogether, leaving you wondering how it ended and what the aftermath was.

This book is fascinating. The style of writing allows you to go inside the minds of corporate fraud offenders. In order to do the crime it fosters accomplices along the way. The amazing thread is that the criminals have their scheme planned out but they forget one critical element, there's always someone that can find the trail that's left behind. Computer fingerprints. I thought that the book was eloquently written and I walked away with a clear understanding of corporate criminal fraud and what criminals will do for greed.

This book was recommended to me by a coworker when I was working at one of the big four in the area of data mining. I was at first skeptical of the depth of its IT specifics but quickly realized that between the gripping lines of adventure the author skillfully embedded vital knowledge that's critical for anyone who wants to get the insight of corporate systems, IT infrastructures, and how they work together. In the format for a novel, the author took me on an exciting and informative ride in the world of corporate forensic investigation.

Security literature is filled with titles on procedures, processes, and details of performing forensic investigations. Despite its title, this book is not another one. Equal parts autobiography, mystery, biography, and action thriller, the book is an overview of the cases and characters with which the author, a forensic investigator at Deloitte and Touche, has been involved.
In chapter after chapter, the reader receives a high-level view of the tools and technologies used in forensic investigations, then learns the inner workings of specific corporate frauds. These cases range from garden-variety frauds to cybercrime.
One fascinating chapter explores the disposition of a bank account dormant since the Holocaust and how forensic investigators cracked the case 60 years after the fact. It describes how a large group of investigators went to Switzerland to determine the beneficiaries of dormant World War II-era Swiss bank accounts. The chapter details methodology used to retrieve documents and to discover what was hidden and who was entitled to it.
Geared for management-level readers without much technical background, the book spares the reader byte-by-byte details on forensic evidence gathering and handling. Story after story gives readers a very accessible account of how investigators detected fraud, misuse, and a wide range of other corporate criminality. With its real-life drama, the book is both an enjoyable and instructive read.

Most students in introductory accounting will become users not preparers of accounting information. Many accounting programs have altered the introductory course to stress the interpretation and application of accounting numbers and to deemphasize the mechanical, bookkeeping aspects of financial accounting. Understanding the cincpetual issues from a user's perspective has become the focus of these programs and some schools even teach little or no debits and credits. The question is not whether accounting programs should teach their majors bookkeeping; instead, the issue cneters on determining the best place in the curriculum to teach these issues. schools that adopt a user-friendly approach to accouting 101 might attempt to push these topics to intermediate accounting that covers these mechanical topics. This book is wonder for this purpose, providing the mechanics of bookkeeping and introducing the reader to accouting information system. The text also introduces the student to auditing, both its goals and its elementary priciples. Particularly, this text is packaged with a CD-ROM containing FINANCIAL ACCOUTIUNG TUTOR software,which is an innovative, self-paced tutorial that uses interactive problems and graphical tools to help students understand the logic underlying financial accounting concpets and procedures. This product was a big disappointment. All received was a DVD with a lot of power power point slides. There was no explanation, no text and no exercises. Also, the price was very high. I would expect to pay no more than $20.00 for this type of brief material. If I knew how to get my money back I would!

People with thalassemia have an inherited blood disorder that causes mild or severe anemia. The anemia is due to reduced hemoglobin and fewer red blood cells than normal. In people with Thalassemia, the genes that code for hemoglobin are missing or variant (different than the normal genes). Severe forms of thalassemia are usually diagnosed in early childhood and are lifelong conditions. The two main types of thalassemia, alpha and beta, are named for the two protein chains that make up normal hemoglobin. The genes for each type of thalassemia are passed from parents to their children. There are mild and severe forms of the disease, the latter often called Cooley's anemia. Cooley's anemia is the most common severe form of thalassemia.
