Within the economist's abstraction of a "Perfect Market" it is assumed that all agents have access to the same timely, accurate and free information, and as a result allocative efficiency will be achieved. In practice this rarely happens and in most cases agents have access to different levels of information so that transactions are characterized by asymmetric information. This book presents the first integrated treatment of asymmetric information as both a macroeconomic and microeconomic phenomenon in financial markets.

This is an excellent text that puts in an intuitive level concepts that usually belong to much more advanced books or technical journals. It should be attractive to both graduate students in economics looking for an intuitive presentation as well as to business or finance Master's students with little background since the book keeps a discursive style with lots of examples.

This is a good starter for anybody who is a stranger to the world of finanical markets. The book not only explains all the fundermentals of the financial world - that covers the money and bond markets, foreign exchange markets, stock exchange markets and derivative markets, but also provides a glimpse of how things have evolved from the early fifteen century to what it is of today in the IT age by quoting many relevant and up-to-date real life examples - as recent as the Baring scandal. It certainly helps novice to appreciate, to some extent, what is going on with the recent Asian Financial Crisis.

Good book to read. Specially for people who are new to finance and economics. When I read this book i was a junior in college. Lot of concepts were very difficult for me to grasp. I reread this book in my senior year and i loved the book as this book has everything, for instance Principal and concepts of all the financial institutions and different "financial buzz words". If you are confuse about your future carrer path in finance. Read this book and you will be sure where you want to go.

I purchased this particular book for an on-line program and not because it even vaguely seemed attractive much less "Effective". To my delight the book has made some excellent strong points and is very practical. I really can't say too much "cons" about the book. If you need a book for a Management program, whether online or conventional class room or even for short courses and seminars...it works great. Easy, simple reading.
I gave it 4 stars because it took 4 weeks to arrive-lost one star for shipping!

Intellectual Property Infringement Damages : A Litigation Support Handbook, by Russell L. Parr, is a helpful tool for economic, accounting and law professionals. As a lawyer and certified public accountant testifying as an expert witness in an area of valuation and valuation of intellectual property and infringement damages, I found the book very helpful. After reading this book I was able to improve my presentation and testimony in the courtroom. Moreover, the book was helpful to me to better quantify my calculations on the witness stand. I find the book an essential tool for the professionals working in area of litigation support and damages.

Being an Astrologer & one who looks to the "new-er age" school of thought for insight into things, I was quite impressed with this book. I'm in the process of changing my legal first & middle names & this book helped me tremendously in finding a name with a good "vibe" to it. Now I know why I've not had much luck with my birth name..it vibrated to the wrong planet! Just the confidence I've gained alone, with my new name, is tremendous. Anyone who has ever thought of changing their name or just "playing" with it should read this book cover to cover! One area that Palmer could improve on was a source for finding out what your "Astrodynes/Cosmodynes" are. Because without them you have no idea what planets are your luckiest to "vibrate" to. I was fortunate to find a fellow Astrologer to do mine gratis but it might help others to be provided with at least one source to obtain their own! All in all...a fabulous read & a great source of entertainment as well!
