Insightful!.......2005-07-01
In an era when so many CEOs feel business would be great if only they didn't have to manage employees, we recommend William J. Rothwell's authoritative human resources classic. Its ideas converge nicely with the growing corporate requirement for a verifiable return on investment (ROI) for every activity. In the eyes of Human Performance Enhancement (HPE) experts, traditional training methods are too expensive, not very useful and too focused on behavior rather than on attaining organizational goals. Anyone who has experienced the corporate training phenomenon of "sheep-dipping" may agree that business training programs have room for improvement. This volume and its companion CD - complete with Power Point presentations - is a tremendous resource for training and human resources professionals, especially those seeking a fresh, practical approach to human performance.

Every House Needs This Book!.......2007-02-16
This medical book references every possible medical problem that a person can face. I refer to it a lot whenever an aliments appear. Most of the time when I go visit my doctor, I already know what my medical problem is and of course this helps him out a great deal. Whether it be a simple cold or flu or something more serious, this book will guide you in how to make intelligent medical decisions and become more educated regarding you health.
Highly recommended!.......2003-12-01
This book is very informative and has helped me numerous times to make correct judgements.
On one occasion, my father-in-law felt nausea and had double vision. He was sent to hospital. The doctor there said that he was perfectly okay and was going to send him home. After consulting the book, I suspected that he had had a stroke. When we told the doctor, he said it was not likely and insisted that he was okay to go home.
We went to another hospital regardless of what the doctor said. The doctor at the second hospital said that it was a good thing he looked for help in time otherwise the stroke would leave permanent damage to his sytem.
I am not saying this book can replace your doctors. But at least we can understand more of a lot of common diseases, and hopefully we can catch what mistakes doctors made instead of trusting them blindly.
The Medical Advisor - best book I own!.......2003-11-21
I absolutely treasure this book and recommend that every household have it! I have turned to it time and time again and share it with family and friends. It is easy to understand, thorough and most of all easy to use. I feel more at ease knowing that I can understand my body better and can actually do something to help prevent and or cure myself. The best part is that it covers both conventional as well as alternative treatments for each ailment in just a few pages. I must say that everyone in my household has used it at one time or another and it is almost never up on the shelf...even when no one is sick, someone at home is reading it to understand the body better! It's that well written!! I wish Time Life would come out with an updated edition as I cannot find the book anymore and I'd like to purchase a copy for siblings who want one of their own.
Every Home Needs The Medical Advisor.......2000-01-23
I bought The Medical Advisor in 1997 and it's one of the most important books I own. I use it to look up my symptoms whenever I get sick and check out all my medicine in the large drug reference section. This book is wonderfully comprehensive. Each topic is covered in four pages or less. In ten to fifteen minutes you find out what you need to know. The text is well written and consistently uses language everyone can understand. That's why every home can use The Medical Advisor.
Great Reference Book.......1999-08-29
Im 16 years old and interested in being a doctor. This book has a lot of information ranging from an atlas of the body to what to do in certain emergencies. But the main part of the book is an alphabetized index that explains in detail things from bee stings, to pneumonia, to back pain. It shows conventional methods along with alternative methods like acupressure and herbal remedies. This is a great book to have around the house and doesn't cost as much as some medical books do.

Love it!.......2007-04-11
I have given a copy to all my kids, and now am giving them as wedding presents adding a heating pad and ice bag. Something everyone can use and they probably won't get dupicates. They may forget who gave them two pricy glasses to their set, but they won't forget who gave them the Medical Advisor.

Fantastic Resource!.......2005-09-11
This book is an excellent reference and extremely useful family resource. I use it frequently, with great results and great confidence! It contains just about anything you need to research. This book has helped me in "self-diagnosis" several times and in ruling out possible self diagnoses many other times! I've found it useful for women, men, and children. I highly recommend The Medical Advisor for your family's home library.
Almost Perfect !.......2003-05-17
This book has consistently provided me with great information...an excellent starting point before contacting your doctor or for an illness you just want tot understand better. There are some common drugs that I couldn't find, but usually could cross reference them to find some mention in the book, if not in the drug info section. It seems to be stronger in the alternative medicine category than the prescriptions, but overall info on general illnesses and symptoms is incredibly comprehensive. This is the one book that should be on every family's shelf.
This book has provided much more insight into drug side effects and interactions (especially drug interactions with herbal remedies) than my doctor, my pharmacist or even the internet has provided. And its great when you need an answer quick, like when you are panicking over an injury or symptom at 3 in the morning! I am eagerly awaiting the 3rd edition.
User Friendly Family Medical Guide.......2002-12-05
I love this book and use it all the time. It is a
quick reference for any medical condition and is
written in layman terms so it is very user friendly.
I recommend this book for anyone. A must for every
home.
This seemed to be an okay book........2002-08-24
I first came across this book from a friend. I thought it will be a good reference book, and that's what it actually is. It gives you a general idea of certain aches and pains that you encounter in your day to day life. This books helps you to take some initial remedial measures before wasting your time at the Doctors. I say this because some of the illness can be overcome without pumping a lot of pills into your system. This book is good to understand your body, its illness and take care of it.

Still outstanding.......1999-03-29
I have been hooked since book one and had to order the last book in the triology. No one carried it. I have never been in such suspense before. Most of the books I have read I figured out the ending before I finished. These, however, I can only narrow it down to a couple different ways it might end. I recomend these books to everyone.
I liked this book........1998-04-20
This is a good book for a second volume in a trilogy managing to sustain my interest in both the protagonist and the mystery of who is the main antagonist. The supporting characters both hero's and villains are also interesting. I enjoyed having characters that had appeared in his earlier trilogy (the Masquerade of the Red Death) showing up and continuing thier story.
Book Description
Gardner's seminal 1993 account of the practical applications of Multiple Intelligences theory is now completely updated and expanded to reflect the latest developments in the field
Howard Gardner's brilliant conception of individual competence has changed the face of education in the twenty-three years since the publication of his classic work, Frames of Mind. Since then thousands of educators, parents, and researchers have explored the practical implications and applications of Multiple Intelligences theory--the powerful notion that there are separate human capacities, ranging from musical intelligence to the intelligence involved in self-understanding.
The first decade of research on MI theory and practice was reported in the 1993 edition of Multiple Intelligences. This new edition covers all developments since then and stands as the most thorough and up-to-date account of MI available anywhere. Completely revised throughout, it features new material on global applications and on MI in the workplace, an assessment of MI practice in the current conservative educational climate, new evidence about brain functioning, and much more.

Bringing Multiple Intelligences into the 21st Century.......2007-01-05
Howard Gardner summarizes his mulitple intelligences theory first introduced in his 1983 book Frames of Mind. Gardner introduces a provisional acceptance of a ninth intelligence (Existential Intelligence--pondering deep, life questions) to add to the eight intelligences already established. Gardner updates his theory's relevance to education and to other arenas in society.
Book Description
LOST HORIZON is the tale of three men and a woman seeking escape from a political upheaval in the Orient. Their airplane crashes high on a Tibetan plateau. They are saved by a party of natives and taken to Shangri-La.
Finding themselves prisoners at first, then visitors, they soon become willing captives until they discover the secret of that hidden paradise.

A Classic Adventure in the Himilayas.......2007-09-23
Note: I made some Mormon reader angry over my reviews of books written by Mormons out to prove the Book of Mormon, and that person has been slamming my reviews.
Your "helpful" votes are appreciated. Thanks.
On Lost Horizon: You'll love this story of lost civilization, where people live hundreds of years. Hidden in the Mountains of the Blue Moon, the survivors of an airplane crash wonder into a charmed valley, where no one thinks of death. The hero falls in love with one of the women.
I don't want to tell too much, but I do highly recommend this classic adventure first published in 1933. It has all the ambiance of that era, and as one Amazon reviewer said, it is the perfect book to curl up with on a slow day.
What is paradise?.......2007-08-29
The Lost Horizon really brings to mind the question of what is your paradise?
This is a book about a man who, along with three other companions, ends up in a mysterious civilization in some community lost among the mountains. This new life offers immortality (or close to it), but there is one catch. You may not leave. Some are able to become used to the confines of the little city but others (mainly one of the main character's companions) refuse to accept and make an attemt at an escape.
The main character has to decide if he will stay, because for him this new place is paradise, or if he will help the other young man escape.
It is an interesting book and, once you get past the first couple of pages, it goes by fast. I would recommend this book to anyone.
"...the whole atmosphere was more of wisdom than of learning, of good manners than seriousness.".......2007-08-20
After seeing Frank Capra's film version of this book, I had to read James Hilton's novel. The book and the film are very similar, so my love for the film has transferred to the original work. Lost Horizon is the story of four people, an American, a young British soldier, a middle-aged British man, and a female missionary, who have the misfortune of being kidnapped on an airplane. They are crashed near a mysterious and dismal mountain somewhere in Tibet, and all seems to be lost to them, including their pilot who dies in the crash. However, they are rescued by a group of men who live in a strange valley nearby. They call their oasis Shangri-La.
The middle-aged British man is named Conway; he has the best grasp of the goals of Shangri-La of any of the people in his group. Instead of fidgeting when he is told he and his friends will never leave the villiage, he embraces his new home where everything is done in moderation. He marvels over the expensive library of treasures and begins to love a tiny Chinese girl with a fondness for music. He has the good fortune to meet the High Lama of the monastary there and to be told the secrets of Shangri-La.
Conway's sentiments narrate the story, and his calm personality resonates with the reader and makes the sometimes outlandish beliefs of Shangri-La become vivid and desirable.
This is a magical book with the same feeling of hope and inspiration that is present in Frank Capra's films. Although it was written in the early 30s, the sentiments are applicable in today's world. Thus, it is a timeless classic that every person should have the good fortune of stumbling upon. It will never leave you.
A classic.......2007-07-12
Classic work - timeless. Psychological study of the protagonist - contast of who he is v. how he is perceived. Can't we all relate to that? And, contrast of Western v. Eastern mindset.
