Authors talked for 282 pages but didn't say anything. This entire book could be reduced to an informative pamphlet.
More than a book about travel jobs.......2004-04-09
For the reviewers who feel this book doesn't go into enough depth for travel jobs you have missed the point and unfortunately your career(s) will suffer from this. The book talks about travel jobs and gives websites etc. But more importantly it will help open your eyes to approaching your job search from the standpoint of doing what 'you' want to do - not what an employer puts down in a 3 sentence job description. This book is actually one of the best 'career guides' I have seen. Do yourself a favor and read between the lines here.
Traditional Ideas.......2003-04-22
I waited a long time for this book - it was on back-order. And while it gave some good information about jobs I already knew existed, it didn't really give me any ideas for jobs I hadn't already considered.
So, if you want a traditional job involving travel, or to work in the travel industry, buy this book for more details and contact information. Don't buy it if, like me, you're looking for new ideas on how to make a living on the road.

Not Very Good.......2004-08-08
This book isn't very helpful or enjoyable to read. The author comes across as a VERY macho, traditional male and his personality comes across very strongly in the writing. As I am not this type of person, it was a huge turn off for me.
The book is not much more than a brief skimming of careers and some pep talk advice, like "you have to work hard to get what you want." You can get the much of this info from an internet search or a visit to a career counselor. There were a few useful tidbits of info. I learned my dream of being a travel writer isn't likely to happen and wouldn't pay well anyway. Don't waste your time and money.

For prospective volunteers it is possible to work at Buddhist retreats, on steam railways, or on the archaeological excavation of a Roman fort.

this book appears to be simple and easy to understand. it is of great help to people who wish to find out about these certain paradise jobs. However I think you should consider more graphics and maybe cover a wider range of career opportunities. Nevertheless a great effort.

We get a lot of requests for this book in the library here in West Yellowstone, Montana. Many of the locations that qualify as "paradise" are close by. However, I would like to ask the author to please consider updating this book, like one of these other reviewers has also requested.

A great guide to cruise line, ski resort, national park, and resort hotel jobs around the world!
Great Information, but dated now........1998-10-07
This book is a great listing of jobs available all over the world. Maltzman even gives specifics like cost of lodging (if provided) and other things like airfare re-imbursement options, etc. Each listing has contact info and all you need to know to make a preliminary choice. It certainly shows you what is available and directs you to opportunities you might not ever have considered otherwise.
However, that said, the seasonal industry changes rapidly, and 1993 is a bit old now. But, most places will still be there around, with possible policy and HR personnell changes. So, plan ahead, allowing time to write and call to verify his info.
