Creating Women's Networks is a comprehensive manual for female employees who truly want to accomplish as much as possible in corporate America, and employers of either gender who honestly want their entire workforce to be the best that it can be. Based on a variety of extensive studies conducted over the past 15 years by Catalyst--a respected non-profit research and advisory group "dedicated to helping women achieve their full professional potential and showing businesses how to capitalize on those talents"--it examines successful women's groups that are operating today in companies such as Kimberly-Clark, Texas Instruments, Kodak, and Dow Chemical, and offers detailed instructions for both creating new ones and increasing the effectiveness of those already in existence. Filled with checklists, charts, breakout points, and first-person suggestions that turn the advice into a hands-on program, the book follows the life cycle of the very organizations it helps to define. The first section, for example, lays out all critical initial steps like understanding the company environment, building support, and actually getting underway. The second deals with ongoing maintenance, focusing on ways to keep the coalition on track and tackle challenges that inevitably develop. --Howard Rothman
Book Description
Discover a dynamic new force in leadership development. This remarkable guide shows companies exactly how they can better retain and increase leadership talent through the establishment of women's networks--networks that link specific female employee concerns and larger organizational goals in ways that bolster the bottom line. Based on the cutting-edge research of Catalyst--America's foremost nonprofit dedicated to the advancement of women in business--this guide explains why women's networks are valuable. It shows how companies large and small have leveraged women's networks to their advantage. And it provides a detailed framework readers can follow to create a network within their organization. Charged with first-person success stories, it will prove invaluable to executives and managers concerned with decreasing turnover, increasing employee satisfaction, and optimizing the leadership potential of their entire work force.

How to...and Why.......2001-01-05
In the Introduction, we are told that "Women's networks are a phenomenon that grew out of the overlapping need of companies to reach out to the women in their organization and the critical need of women to reach out to each other." Enlightened employers recognize that both needs are immensely important. Here is a book which does indeed provide a "How-To Guide to Women and Companies." Part One explains how to design and implement a women's network. Part Two explains how to extend and strengthen that network. Then the reader is provided with a wealth of Resources which include "Catalyst's Summary Findings from The Women's Workplace Network Survey" and examples of successful women's networks (Dow Chemical, Bausch & Lomb, Kodak, and Kimberly- Clark). Of special value to the reader is a series of charts (eg Chart 4.2, "Support Continuum: Middle Management") and Checklists (one per each of the seven chapters) which, together, provide just about all anyone would need to design, implement, strengthen, and (yes) defend a successful women's network.
This book tells you everything you need to know........1999-05-25
I wish I had this book last May (98') when we started our Women's Mentoring Network at work. The good thing is after we read it we realized we had done alot of the right things. If you haven't started your network yet or want to compare how you're doing with other companies this is the book you need to read.

Customer Reviews:
Beautiful book - out of this world.......2007-09-20
My 6 year old son had a class project about the night sky, I purchased this book and was blown away by the detail and artwork, the viewing wheel was a great addition to the book used to great effect by young and old. I gave the book to his Teacher and she was so impressed with it that she used it as a teaching resourse and took inspiration for some lessons out of it, if you only buy one book for your child on astronomy let it be this one
Very Educational.......2007-07-08
I must have flipped though 20+ books about the solar system & stars before I found this one. Once I had this in my hand, I would not put it down. This book has more details, than all the others. It's more like a child's science book. I learned things I did not know or had forgot.
Can be a great book for elementary age with adult/older child's help.......2007-04-25
We purchased this book for my daughter as a reward for a good report card. Her 1st grade class has been learning about space. While the book may seem a little advanced for first graders it is definitely a book that they can used to reference with an adult's help. The book is broken down in and way and written so that the common person without astronomy knowledge can learn from it and transfer that to the child. This book can also be used as a great resource for teachers teaching younger kids about our universe. Included with this book is a glow in the dark star chart that helps anyone find the constellations. This book provides an easy way to have quality time with a child that is also educational. If you are looking for a one stop shopping book about space that a child can used for a while then this is it!
great astronomy 101 for the middle school and older child.......2007-01-28
The subtitle of the book is the Story of the Stars, Planets and Constellations -- and How You Can Find Them in the Sky. It should read The Stars, The Planets, the Astronomers, the Universe and Everything. The books has definitions, factoids, readable text, stories, illustrations, pictures, a star wheel/star finder, stickers and everything that has anything to do with our world and our universe. Not for small children (too much text/ too much information), but the best introduction to astronomy I have seen for middle school and older children presented in a very very approachable/ user friendly format. Well done!
excellent gift.......2007-01-09
I purchased this book as a gift for my 9 year old nephew. He absolutely loved it! He enjoys reading the book with his mom and loves the fact that it came with the glo-in-the-dark stars.
Book Description
It's not always easy to find the 88 constellations, but this illustrated guidebook will lead you through the stars and make gazing at them a more meaningful experience. Two larger maps portray the entire northern and southern sky, and all the constellations in it. Because the stars put on different "seasonal shows," another set charts the changes that take place in the heavens during the year. Still more pictures present a close-up view of every single constellation, filled with detail. (You'll see an image of the real or imaginary creature it's named after, too.) And, there's so much great information accompanying the super visuals: facts on how far away the stars really are, other interstellar phenomena, the history of every constellation and how they got their names, and the best way to do your star searching. A Selection of Children's Book-of-the-Month Club.
Book Description
This lively, vibrantly illustrated rendition of the story of Big and Little Bear provides a wonderful introduction to classic Greek myths and the constellations. Jean Marzollo, beloved author and expert in early childhood education, vividly retells this dramatic and heartwarming tale about the enduring bond between mother and child. Small bird characters at the bottom of each page offer thought-provoking commentary.
Customer Reviews:
The myth that explains the North Star retold for younger readers.......2006-03-05
You probably would not be able to tell just from the cover art, but "Little Bear, You're a Star" is a Greek myth retold and illustrated by Jean Marzollo (yes, the declaration this is "A Greek Myth" gives it away, but I am talking just about the picture of the Big Bear and the Little Bear and ignoring the Greek border design on the bottom). This story is about the North Star and why it is the most important star in the night sky. It also involves the Greek myth of Callisto and Arcas, the original of which Marzollo is longer and more complicated than what Marzollo has simplified for young children. However, down the road students will be able to find other, more detailed versions of the same myth. Meanwhile, they will find out that the title of this book does not mean what they think it means.
The little birds that are talking on the bottom of the cover continue to talk throughout the book, which begins with a picture of the night sky and has the birds telling you to come back and look after the story to see if you can spot the constellations that make the pictures the ancient Greeks saw in the stars. Think of the birds as a sort of caustic Greek chorus. The story is about how Zeus visited a beautiful woman named Callisto who had a baby named Arcas. Hera, the jealous wife of Zeus, changes Callisto into bear so that Zeus will not want to visit her any more. As Callisto learned how to be a bear, she kept an eye on her son, who grows up and learns to shoot with a bow and arrow. Then one day, Arcas is about to shoot his first bear, not knowing that it is his mother.
The constellation part of the story comes at the end when Zeus creates Ursa Major (Big Bear) and Ursa Minor (Little Bear), known by us today as the Big Dipper and Little Dipper. But once you understand that the tails of the bears become the handles of the dippers, you should be able to see both. The idea is that the last thing Zeus touched last was the tail of the Little Bear, which is the North Star (also known as Polestar and Polaris). A Parent/Teacher Guide on the last back of the book explains when young children can understand the abstract concept of north and how the Greek word for bear, "Arktos," gives us the words "Arctic" and "arctophile" (you should know the former, but the latter is what you call somebody who collect teddy bears, which is probably more relevant to young readers).
Book Description
Look up in the sky! There's a flying horse, a queen, and even a dragon! The night sky is a treasure trove of stories filled with heroes, wild animals, and adventure. It's just a matter of knowing where to look. Fifteen constellations are portrayed in this fun guide to astronomy, from easily recognizable Ursa Major, the big bear, to the distinct stars of Orion, the famous hunter. Each constellation features a pronunciation guide, a myth to explain the constellation, and sure-fire instructions on how to find each group of stars. This ultimate guide to stargazing is the perfect bedtime book -- just don't expect to get much sleep!

fun with the stars.......2002-08-08
This book that my son is reading for his school curriculum caught my eye, and when I picked it up I couldn't put it down. How terrific to be able to understand AND enjoy a lesson of stories on the constellations. I highly recommend this book for amatuer and avid star gazers.
Five Stars For A Book ABOUT Stars........2001-12-18
This is the best book I've ever seen for teaching kids or adults how to find stars and identify constellations in the night sky. It's apparently geared to kids of about age 12, but I haven't been twelve for over thirty years and I enjoyed and learned from this book. The writing is clear and precise with neat little sidebars that give additional scientific information to the text. Refreshingly, the quality of the illustrations, paper and layout is tremendous. No cutting corners here. This is a first-class book! If this new release doesn't get picked up for classroom use, our educators are asleep.

Jewel Sticker Slumber.......2000-06-17
The text of this Jewel Sticker story is the weakest that I have seen in the series. There are several pages without any sticker instructions at all. Other pages direct a child to place, for example, seven stickers at once on a constellation. The illustrations are beautiful, but this story needs rewriting.

Description from the cover.......2005-10-29
One evening, crafty Coyote climbs to the moon to discover the secrets of the heavens. Instead he finds a way to make the most wonderful pictures for all the world to see. When the other animals of the canyon look up at the sky the next night, they're in for a big surprise.
Based on a Wasco Indian legend, this story about the origin of the constellations is joyfully retold and vibrantly illustrated by Harriet Peck Taylor.
Harriet Peck Taylor's interest in coyote lore began with a young coyote who lived in the foothills near her home. "It used to follow me on hikes with my dogs," she says, "and once even touched noses with them."
Ms. Taylor received her B.F.A. in painting from the University of Colorado. In her paintings, which are in public and private collections, she tries to capture natural beauty because "if people can appreciate the beauty of the land, they will perhaps want to protect it."
Harriet Peck Taylor lives in Boulder, Colorado, where she is a full-time artist and enthusiastic stargazer.
