RFID in the Supply Chain: A Guide to Selection and Implementation (Resource Management)
Judith M. Myerson Manufacturer: AUERBACH ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover Similar Items:
ASIN: 0849330181 |
Book Description
Giving organizations the ability to track, secure, and manage items from the time they are raw materials through the life-cycle of the product, radio frequency identification (RFID) makes internal processes more efficient and improves overall supply chain responsiveness. Helping you bring your organization into the future, RFID in the Supply Chain: A Guide to Selection and Implementation explains RFID technology, its applications in SCM, data storage and retrieval, business processes, operational and implementation problems, risks, security and privacy, facility layout, handling systems and methods, and transportation costs. In short, with its soup-to-nuts coverage, the book ensures that your RFID implementation is successful and that you get the most from your investment. The book discusses the major paradigm shift in product traceability that began with transitioning to RFID technology from bar code technology. It examines the economic feasibility of rolling out RFID and the challenges in supply chain synchronization, customer privacy, security, operations and IT, logistics, program management, education and training, and implementation, as well as what lessons have been learned. The author addresses the RFID business processes needed to analyze and resolve problems the suppliers face when they deal with multiple customers, each with a different mandate, and with their own set of suppliers. Going beyond the technology and how it has changed supply chain processes, the book includes selection guidelines and implementation examples, such as speed of tag reads versus quality of computer inputs and optimal tag location. The author discusses the implementation of a business process model and the separate but equal concerns that business and IT executives have about the implementation of RFID applications. The book also covers security, integrated control management linked to the corporate strategy, and laws and regulations.

Counties as Service Delivery Agents: Changing Expectations and Roles
J. Edwin Benton Manufacturer: Praeger Publishers ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 0275976548 |
Book Description
Counties generally fulfill three service roles: traditional or state-mandated; local or municipal; and regional or urban. Benton has written the first scholarly treatment of county governments as providers of all three of these types of services, dispelling the notion that counties are mere providers of services they are mandated to perform by their state governments. County governments in the United States have become increasingly important as service providers over the past several decades, vis-a-vis municipalities and townships. These services change over time and vary from region to region. Variations in the roles that county governments play in the provision of traditional, local, and regional service are explained. Therefore, in addition to examining multiple indicators of service roles for all 3,043 counties in the United States, the analysis is extended to investigate the influence of political, state constitutions, statutes, and financial aid, population growth patterns, metropolitan/non-metropolitan status, and form of government.

Handbook of Biological Control: Principles and Applications of Biological Control
Manufacturer: Academic Press ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 0122573056 |
Book Description
For many years the use of chemical agents such as pesticides and herbicides has been effective in controlling the many varieties of pests that infest both agricultural crops and backyard gardens. However, these pests are gradually becoming resistant to these agents, because the agents themselves are acting as selective factors making the pests better and better able to resist and persist. As a result, the use of biological controlling agents is increasing.

Artificial Intelligence for Biology and Agriculture
Manufacturer: Springer ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 0792350987 |
Book Description
This volume contains a total of thirteen papers covering a variety of AI topics ranging from computer vision and robotics to intelligent modeling, neural networks and fuzzy logic. There are two general articles on robotics and fuzzy logic. The article on robotics focuses on the application of robotics technology in plant production. The second article on fuzzy logic provides a general overview of the basics of fuzzy logic and a typical agricultural application of fuzzy logic. The article `End effectors for tomato harvesting' enhances further the robotic research as applied to tomato harvesting. The application of computer vision techniques for different biological/agricultural applications, for example, length determination of cheese threads, recognition of plankton images and morphological identification of cotton fibers, depicts the complexity and heterogeneities of the problems and their solutions. The development of a real-time orange grading system in the article `Video grading of oranges in real-time' further reports the capability of computer vision technology to meet the demand of high quality food products. The integration of neural network technology with computer vision and fuzzy logic for defect detection in eggs and identification of lettuce growth shows the power of hybridization of AI technologies to solve agricultural problems. Additional papers also focus on automated modeling of physiological processes during postharvest distribution of agricultural products, the applications of neural networks, fusion of AI technologies and three dimensional computer vision technologies for different problems ranging from botanical identification and cell migration analysis to food microstructure evaluation.

Information Technology, Plant Pathology and Biodiversity (Cabi Publishing)
Manufacturer: CABI ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 085199217X |
Book Description
Information technology is revolutionizing the handling of biological information. The British Society for Plant Pathology (BSPP) has been at the forefront of several initiatives in handling information electronically, and the Systematics Association has a long-standing involvement in computer-based species identification. BSPP and the Systematics Association recognized the opportunity to join forces and develop a combined program for a conference on these themes, which was held in December 1996 at the University of Kent at Canterbury. This book presents forty edited and revised papers from that conference. The topics covered are wide-ranging and include biological databases, geographic information systems, probabilistic identification systems, and electronic teaching aids. Written by authors from Europe, North and Central America, China, India and New Zealand, the book provides an essential review for plant pathologists and taxonomists, as well as other biologists wishing to keep up with the information revolution.Books:
