A good book.......2002-03-25

Out of all the books I have read on this subject, this is one of the better ones. Unfortunately, there needs to be better books on this subject. There is so much left out of all the books I read, that I still didn't have a high level of confidence in making the purchase, and relied a lot on my previous business experience. However, this book did a good job of getting the process started, and sent me in the right direction. I eventually found a business. Someone needs to write a book on all the details to pay attention to in the acquisition process, and why. It would be a good alternative to the expensive price of paying professionals to educate you.

Buy Your Own Business.......1999-12-05

I found this book very helpful. From a first time business buyer, this book was great. It won't explain how to do every individual thing while searching for a business, but it will point you in the right direction. It was the first book I bought once I started any research, but defenitely not the last.

This manual is a complete guidebook for helping both parents learn to live with the changes visitation brings to their lives after a divorce and offers a unique perspective with its back-to-back format.

One half of the book is written especially for the custodial parent and talks about how to deal with problems of a child having two parents in two homes with two sets of rules. The other half of the book addresses the non-custodial parent and deals with what to do during visitation, long-distance visitation, communicating with the other parent, coping with scheduling and helping the child adjust.

The book contains appendices with various resources, including parenting organizations, publication resources, related websites and sample visitation plans schedules.

This is a book I'd like to see all divorced parents read!.......2002-10-19

I work for a social services agency and many of my clients are trying to cope with visitation/access. I liked this book a lot because it gives straight advice about real situations. The emphasis is on working things out, but it also tells parents how to handle it if they can't. This is a book I am going to recommend to my clients because it gives them real tips on how to make things work. There are great things like lists of things parents shouldn't say to their kids and lists of things to pack for visitation/access time. There are also good tips about how to make transitions work - often the most difficult time for children. It really is a handbook- a manual for living with visitation/access. This is a book I'd like to see all divorced parents read.

Good if you are really new to divorce and visitation.......2002-10-07

This book is o.k., but doesn't offer any new advice. It's mostly filled with common sense. If you are on friendly terms with your ex, and he/she is a little clueless, maybe you could give it to them.
I didn't find the "flip it over" aspect necessary, as it was mostly the same information for both parents, with only minor changes.
If you have any major problems or concerns with your visitation situation, you won't find much help here.

An Informative and Practical Guide.......2002-06-27

This is a great book that gives a lot of practical advice. The most wonderful thing about this book is that its focus is on your children. As a custodial parent, sometimes things will happen that will make me see red, and it's so tough to know what to do. Even though I know that whatever I say and do affects my kids, it can be so difficult sometimes not to let loose and get upset in a way that ends up hurting them instead. Sember's nuts and bolts advice is great for helping me keep my kids the top priority, even when it means biting my tongue sometimes. I wish I had the kind of relationship with my ex which would let us use this book together, but even without that, it has been extremely helpful. The resource section is great, and I was pleased to see that it includes Canadian resources as well. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has to deal with visitation.

You owe it to your kids to get this book!.......2002-05-28

I am the custodial parent of three children - two girls and a boy - and I can't begin to explain what a relief I felt after reading this book. The author speaks in a straightforward way. My ex-husband - or as the author points out in the book - my kids' father and I each have our own copy. We now have a better understanding of what each other is going through and how we can create a better atmosphere to parent our kids. There are so many practical real life solutions in here. This book has helped us move beyond the divorce and face the reality of the many years of parenting we will have together. You owe it to your kids to get this book!

I don't know if everyone else knows this, but Barry Jonsberg is a genius. This book was so funny I was actually laughing out loud in public like a psychopath. The smart but stubborn Calma sees everything in that black & white way that we teenagers are so famous for, and her lack of broad perspective gets her in trouble in more ways than one. Read both of his books, they both feature Calma and are both riotously funny and suspenseful. Great read.

This is a no nonsense read for anyone questioning their rights. I must say, after reading this book, not only did I understand my rights more, but used it to make my ex stop treating my daughter like a pawn in a chess game. This book is meant for every state in the US. It is perfect. It has the forms and even what to expect in court and after court. It is worth every cent!
