Customer Reviews:
Cashing In on a Second Home in Mexico: How to Buy, Rent and Profit from Property South of the Border.......2007-08-28
Book in great condition. Easy reading, and many good pointers on moving to Mexico. Great information on email address for help on subject of renting or owning property. Think it will be very usefull.
Useful information.......2007-07-19
I found this book very informative. It covered all aspects of buying property in Mexcio and information on specific areas of the country. Even though he promotes Stewart Title Insurance I see how this is an important area to consider when purchasing in Mexico. I learned a lot and will keep this book for future reference.
Great Book.......2007-07-05
I "bought" a home in Puerto Pensaco two years ago. I am still trying to get my Fideicomiso. While everything looks like it will turn out ok, I sure wish i had read this book first. If nothing else I would have understood the process better and would have know what questions to ask and what documents to look for.
A very informative book and I highly recommend it to anyone thinking about buying in Mexico. It will increase you comfort level trmendously.
Giving it a 3 because it did contain some useful information.......2007-06-15
It deserves 3 stars because it did contain some useful information which was unknown to me, however it wasn't that great of a read. There are not a whole lot of books on buying a home in Mexico so this one will have to do for now.
Very Poorly Written.......2007-05-07
I found this book very poorly written, incredibly boring, and repetitive to the point that the eyes glaze over after a while. I think one of the writers must be a lawyer whose intention is to make things obscure rather than clear. It needs a thorough editing, but I think the person would be "mad as a hatter" before s/he finished the task. As another reviewer observed, the book should be greatly reduced in size, and Stewart Title Company should pay for advertisement -- if it had not already done so. Appendix B "Getting Into Mexico" is totally out of date.

Book Description
Author and speaker Christine Hrib Karpinski takes readers through all the steps necessary to purchase and rent out a vacation home. This book contains practical, hands-on advice that shows the reader how to do it without property management companies, and keep 100 percent of the profits. It offers realistic strategies to create a situation in which renters pay the mortgage, while still allowing the owner several weeks a year in that little slice of paradise.
Customer Reviews:
Very informative and easy to read.......2007-09-11
For a person like me who is going to start in the Vacation Rental Business, this book was very helpful and informative. For someone who has experience in the business maybe will find it too elementary or too basic. For me it was a good start.
A great starting point............2007-08-28
I own 5 rental properties, 2 are vacation rentals. I bought this book with pretty high expectations. Well, even though I've been doing this for 15 years, Christine still had some new advice to share. I thought her formula was great for some areas, but in Colorado Ski country it just doesn't work.
I love how she does give a couple different points of view pertaining to financing your vacation home.
I would also preferred more depth, that a chapter on properties outside the US, and buy multiple properties. But as some reviewers have stated, it is an excellent primer.
I do think that her book on booking rentals, The Vacation Rental Organizer is a very useful organizer for the money. I intend to purchase one each year.
Very, Very Useful Primer on Vacation Rentals.......2007-08-01
I have to laugh at the previous two reviews, obviously written by the same person, an admitted student with a bone to pick with the author. Christine is the most well-known expert in the very small field of vacation rental consultants. She literally "wrote the book" to walk potential investors, vacationers, and home owners into successfully taking advantage of the blossoming vacation rental market.
This student disagrees with Christine's recommendations that owners not rent to those under 25 years old, then proceeds to show a perfect example of why owners shouldn't. He attempts to trash her reputation, rather than someone's rental property. I'm a rental owner and have the same rule, based on personal experience and the many experiences of friends and acquaintances. I imagine this student has stayed in 1 or 2 rentals and as a result is now an "expert"...much like the hotel commercials we all laugh at.
As the student says, some of the information in Christine's books is on the Internet, as is information from every book ever written. However, this new version of her "How to Rent Vacation Properties by Owner" contains everything anyone needs to know to look for, purchase, furnish, and rent a vacation home. Some of the information is common sense but much is 'insider information' from her many years as a seminar leader, training thousands of owners and being a 'by owner' property manager herself.
Take the previous reviews for what they are, feeble attempts to get even with someone that disagrees with him. If you want to learn about this industry and how to rent 'by owner' get this book and read it cover to cover and decide for yourself how valuable it really is.
Nice title, but way too basic info, too wordy (filler).......2007-07-31
I thought the title of the book was exactly what I was looking for. I had a property to rent and thought about making it a vacation rental. So, I bought the book thinking it would help point out some not-so-obvious issues about renting a vacation property. But after reading it, I was disappointed with the lack of any real advice or tips. There are a A LOT of words, but they seem to be mostly filler with only very limited and basic useful information. I would not recommend this book to anyone interested in running a real business.
Limited and biased.......2007-07-19
I purchased this book with the intention of gaining a working knowledge of vacation rentals to start a small vacation rental project in Baja California, in Mexico. This guide was not particularly helpful at all, providing only rudimentary information that was already somewhat obvious. It also relies on some dangerous business practices, fundamentally on speculating on the property that you are going to buy and trying to make significant profit that way. It seems to be very limited and unprofessional, almost hokey, in its view of vacation rentals.
I was personally offended as a student in that it explicitly recommends discriminating against students or anyone under 25 as customers.

Customer Reviews:
Nothing Outstanding.......1999-05-07
Frankly, for a book on how to buy RV's, I was disappointed. In one of his chapters on what to advoid, Don launches into a multipaged bashing of two ethnic clans that hustle unsuspecting people with sales of poorly constructed RV that are made in IN. This was not advice, it was pure racism.
A good basic guide to negotiating the purchase of an RV.......1998-09-19
The book does get a little bit into the basics, ex. trailer types etc... Overall, it gave some good insight into when/how to negotiate a good deal on an RV. The book motivates the RV shopper to be brave about asking for the price he/she wants. However, if you are looking for specific retail/wholesale prices, they aren't in here.
There was also some good information which helps buyers to know what to look for in an RV. (ex storage, food prep areas, size of bath etc..) The checklist in the back of the book looks fairly complete and should be helpful.
Required reading for anyone considering an RV.......1997-11-06
This book reveals all the dirty secrets in the buying and selling of RVs. Following the advice in this book can easily save you thousands of dollars and a lot of grief. If you're looking at RVs through rose colored lenses, this book will put everything in perspective. If you're still willing to get that RV and hit the road after reading this book, at least you'll have a fighting chance.

Book Description
This how-to book with a how-not-to title, will save you money when you buy a house. The writers are self-described "houseaholics." In Seattle they bought five, in Arizona, three. Other deals fell through when the builder wanted to put their money into his bank account instead of escrow, when a house flunked the termite inspection and when the builder simply refunded their money without explanation. They learned a lot. The hard way! Now they want you to learn a lot the easy way. Don't make a move before you read HOW NOT TO BUY A HOUSE IN ARIZONA AND OTHER ATROCITIES.

Book Description
Justifying Taxes offers readers some of the elements of a democratic tax law, considered within its political and philosophical context in order to determine the extent of legitimate tax obligations. The objective is to revisit some of the issues in the dogmatics of tax law from the viewpoint of a critical citizen, always ready to ask questions about the justification underlying her obligations, and especially about her paramount burden,
viz., the payment of certain amounts of money. Within this purview, special attention is paid to the general principles of taxation.
The argument is complemented by a detailed reconstruction of constitutional reasoning in tax matters, close attention being paid to the jurisprudence of the Spanish
Tribunal Constitucional.
Readership: Legal scholars, political scientists and philosophers. Especially recommended to graduate and undergraduate students of Tax Law, Constitutional Law, Jurisprudence, Philosophy of Law and Political Theory.
Book Description
On February 1
st 2003, one of the worst and most public disasters ever witnessed in the human space programme unfolded with horrifying suddenness in the skies above north central Texas. The Space Shuttle Columbia – the world’s first truly reusable manned spacecraft – was lost during her return to Earth, along with a crew of seven. It was an event that, after the loss of Space Shuttle Challenger during a launch 17 years before, the world had hoped it would never see again. This book details each of Columbia’s 28 missions in turn, as told by scientists and researchers who developed and supported her many payloads, by the engineers who worked on her and by the astronauts who flew her. In doing so, it is intended to provide a fitting tribute to this most remarkable flying machine and those who perished on her last mission.
Customer Reviews:
Detailed but not neccessarily riveting.......2007-05-07
If you want a definitive summary of the missions, crew and experiments undertaken by Columbia, this is a good reference to have. The trouble is that, after describing the excitement of the first flight, and the other milestones, it becomes a long list of one mission after the other. I doubt that the book could have ended up any other way, but it's not necessarily interesting reading after a while. What's also surprising to this reviewer is that the choice of photographs seems restricted. Many crews get their standard group shot floating in one of the shuttle's equipment bays or in Spacelab, but once again they are essentially the same picture. It may will be that the options available to the photographers in the confines of the spacecraft are restricted.
What do work well are the opening chapters, particularly the context of John Young's enthusiasm for the announcement of the shuttle programme, and the closing chapters on Columbia's final mission and the subsequent investigation. In these, there are poignant descriptions that I've not read elsewhere, that bring home the enormity of what happened. To imagine being at KSC, awaiting its return, and slowly to realize that the sonic boom is missing, that the speck on the horizon in missing, and that the clock has passed the touch-down time, is ably supported by the narrative.
To this reviewer, the book also brings home the sheer difficulty and dangers of regularly launching this spacecraft - something that we forget at our peril - and the successes that NASA and the United States have had in this 25-year programme. Having all this information, presumably availailable in each missions report, in one volume is useful.
