O'Regan an inspiration to all Auditors.......2003-08-06

O'Regan's book is an inspiration to read, in the office or in your leisure. A 'must have' for auditors embarking on international assignments. A breath of fresh air for auditing books normally associated with endless jargon and complex terminology. This book has completely transformed my image of global auditing, so much so, that I aim to adventure into the world of international auditing very soon.

A truely inspirational read. The chapters are juxtaposed with succintness and clear, precise, useful, practical information.
This is one of the first books I've seen in its genre - unique.
As an experience 'travelling' global auditor I found this book invaluable, it is definitely useful reference material for the spectrum of audit staff from Audit Directors to the juniors on their first field audit. I have passed this book down to all my colleagues as basic training material.

At last - a book on auditing that combines verve, panache, and a mountain of useful information. I have been an avid follower of O'Regan's writing for several years - his classy articles and IIA books have been a constant companion in my professional life as an auditor. He seems sometimes to be leading a one-man crusade to lift auditing writing out of its generally stuffy doldrums and onto a higher plane.

"International Auditing" is O'Regan's best achievement to date, and the intellectual self-confidence that underpins it is almost breathtaking. Who else would dare to undertake, in one book, all of the following: a history of auditing in its various forms, guidance on international risks, advice on logistics and safety, and a detailed country guide that covers economics, politics, history, and demographics? In my opinion the country guides are worth the price of the book alone, and are a pleasure to read.

"Drunk Driving Defense: How to Beat the Rap" is a classic. The book is written for laypersons, such as myself, so it is easy to read and understand. Learn everything there is to know about a drunk driving offense--how to prevent an arrest, what to do when you are stopped by the police, what to do when arrested, and how to present a solid defense to avoid a conviction.

One very important topic was the substance abuse evaluation: What its all about and how to avoid being classified as a drunk. This alone can save you thousands of dollars in unnecessary substance abuse treatment.

Do yourself a favor, buy this book and read it TODAY. The public must be knowledgeable about drunk driving offenses, and this book is the best place to start.

The Title Says It All.......2002-02-10

No one has ever written such a thoroughly comprehensive book for the average person. "Beat the Rap" takes a person step-by-step through the entire process from the police stop through a drunk driving trial. Everything in-between explains in plain and simple language the many ways to "Beat the Rap". I have spoken to several people who used the book, and they were able to educate their lawyer about the subject. Everyone should own this book as preventive medicine. I purchased numerous copies and gave them as Christmas gifts. In today's MADD Mother society, everyone needs to be prepared for the worst, and this book will give you the sense of security we all need. The author is an attorney specializing in drunk driving defense, so he knows the subject inside-out.

After reading reviews on this book I hired Mr. Taylor's law firm in California to represent me in my DUI case. Now I believe the only purpose of this book is to promote Mr. Taylor's law firm in California. I had a very bad experience with his company that charged me over 4 times the going rate and provided a very poor service. Don't let this book make you belive that if you hire his firm you will get everthing that he writes about in his book. My experience was the opposite and I was very dissapointed.

An essential for every DUI/DWI Defense Attorney.

Relevant and helpful but not for Virginia DUI/DWI cases .......2004-10-11

As a criminal DUI/DWI defense lawyer in one of Virginia's leading DUI defense firms, I have read this text along with others including The Defense of Drunk Drivers published by West.

This text, Drunk Driving Defense, without mention, is not a text for laypersons; it is specifically written for attorneys interested in the minute aspects of DUI defense litigation and the technical arenas of blood alcohol testing. The book provides fundamentals in the technical defenses and assumptions in DUI cases, but not at the level one would expect from a hornbook.

Indeed, I agree with the statement that this book has an overview of the laws of the 50 states. For persons interested in defending cases in Virginia, I would recommend the text mentioned above from West along with publications of the VCLE of the Virginia Law Foundation. Both of these references have a more concrete treatment of DUI defense litigation in the Commonwealth.

Drunk Driving Defense, 5th edition -- great book!.......2001-02-05

This new edition is even better than the previous editions -- which were great! Updated laws, new scientific studies on breath alcohol analysis and field sobriety tests, new sample pretrial motions and cross-examinations, jury selection, license suspensions, etc. I particularly found the detailed checklists helpful, along with the sample cross-examinations of the cop on things like DUI symptoms, nystagmus, field sobriety tests and breath tests. Taylor's book became my bible years ago, and this new edition is even bigger and better!

Good General Ideas but Not Good for a Practice.......2000-11-25

I am an attorney who defends people accused of driving under the influence in California. This review assumes that you are also an attorney, not necessarily in California.

As any attorney will know the laws of one state are not binding, although they may be influencial. Mr. Taylor's book has an excellent overview of the laws of th 50 states. I read this book and learned alot about how I could defend my clients better. Unfortately, DUI laws change more then most. The laws cited here, even when they were applicable to California were old. While you can update them in your library, I would prefer a book where I didn't have to do that as often. As such, I would recommend this book, as one of many, to give you an idea about the general state of the laws and some ideas about human chemistry/biology. But, for a practical guide, I would recommmend his other book "tailored" for California. Still it is a good book, it is well written, and I do recommend it.

Don't Leave Home Without It.......2006-06-14

This is the most comprehensive book on the market to summarize the drunk driving laws of every state. No longer do I have to worry about the laws of each state when I am traveling. I know how much I can drink and still be safe to drive. I know the consequences, punishment, and legal requirements of the police. Everyone should keep a copy in their glove box. You never know when you might need it. I was amazed at how little I actually knew about my home state's drunk driving laws. It was an eye-opening experience to learn about the fines, length of driver's license suspension, and to know my legal rights. As I stated in my title, don't leave home without it. This is the BEST drunk driving book on the shelf!
