A collection of papers by Econometricians and Data Miners, on techniques of data mining, knowledge discovery, genetic algorithms, neural networks, and machine learning.
To undersatnd the papers you need to be familiar with LMC (Financial Econometrics) level of knowledge.
This book will be boring for Probabilist and Mathmaticains, because it does not contain heavy math at all (No where near Karatzas and Shreve)
The articles are taken from the conference of Computational Finance '99 in NYU.
Demanding reading, but a worthwhile overview.......2001-01-06
Ever been to the gym and overheard a guy boasting that benching 300 lbs. is "not so hard, really"? In fact, of course, 300 lbs is a lot to bench press no matter who you are, and to suggest otherwise is ridiculous.
Similarly, it would be folly to suggest that this book is anything other than exceptionally demanding reading that requires both a solid quantitative background as well as a keen interest in the topic. The book is a compendium of research papers from a conference at NYU in 1999.
The papers will mean little to the reader without a basic understanding of derivatives and the quantitative methods associated with them. Without having read the equivalent of texts by Hull and Jorion, for example, the reader will feel a bit like George W. Bush at a Stephen Hawking lecture.

An excellent little paperback by the head of the Second Amendment Foundation. Easy to read, and organized by topic (i.e. "Media Bias", "Plastic Guns"). An excellent source for key facts with which to address gun policy questions. On the downside, the book does not have enough citations for its facts; even though the facts are almost always correct, cites would have been useful to for readers who wanted to find out more. Also, the 1988 publication date means that the book does not cover some of the more recent gun policy controversies. I am new to bee keeping, my first hive didn't make it through Ohio's winter, when I picked up a new package to repopulate the hive, the owner of the apiary, Queens Right Colonies, recommended this book. Each time I get into my hive I look through the book to learn what I have seen. Has been very helpful. Great book!

This is a fine book, but there are many basic concepts missing, and it is a little pricey considering what it lacks. But adding it to your library will be a good move if it's complemented by other authors.

i would like to say that this is not a beginners book for beekeeping. the very first line states "this book covers the second and following years of beekeeping and is written for hobbyist beekeepers who have kept bees for at least one year". it does recommend a beginners book which is a companion volume to this book.
