Book Description
Supply Chain Architecture: A Blueprint for Networking the Flow of Material, Information, and Cash applies five crucial business principles to solve network problems for geographically separated workers who must team together to deliver products and services. These five principles, Velocity, Variability, Vocalize, Visualize, and Value, simplify the design and operation of complex, real-world supply chain networks for broad use throughout the manufacturing and service sectors. Written by an accomplished practitioner in common sense language, this "how to" book provides a complete blueprint for transforming marginal business relationships into exceptionally competitive networks.

Supply Chain Architecture: A Blueprint for Networking the Flow of Material, Information, and Cash.......2006-01-17
This book provides a meaningful, comprehesive, and entertaining picture of the global supply chain. Through stories, Bill has effectively taken potentially dry material and brought it to life in a meaningful and helpful way. Additionally, it is a great source of reference in the research arena.

A different perspective on operating Supply Chains.......2006-01-09
Supply Chain Architecture by William Walker is a different kind of book. It looks at how to make a Supply Chain Network effective by developing a high level conceptual principle, and, then drilling down to the practices that should be adopted to operationalize the principle.
Take an example of the Vocalize principle. This principle covers the synchronization of Supply with Demand. The book describes various techniques to improve this process including, how to the Push-Pull boundary is used in different manufacturing configurations, and, how operational control is established in various manufacturing systems such as Manufacturing Resource Planning, Vendor Management, Kanban and Synchronization.
The book invariably details how to optimize the technique in actual practice. It is written by a practitioner for practitioners
It is a book to be read and absorbed. I have found it very useful and have used sections of it in a Supply Chain course I teach at Polytechnic University in New York

A rare, how-to and practical guide to optimized supply chain performance.......2005-10-24
In a field crowded with literature this book is a rare find. A coherent model for the end-to-end supply chain network is presented, described by the information, material and cash flow processeses and the five principles of velocity, variability, vocalize, visualize and value.
The methodology presented is supremely practical - our organization has been using the five principles process to succesfully solve real life problems from partitioning the bill of materials and outsourcing to minimizing risk to supply and optimizing network inventory.
We are looking forward to our next projects focused on using this framework to integrate global supply chains in a highly competitive network with higher levels of profits, return on assets and cash generation
An Excellent Guide to Planning a Supply Chain.......2005-03-09
"Thus do many calculations lead to victory, and few calculations to defeat ... it is by attention to this point that I can foresee who is likely to win or lose." Sun Tzu's admonition applies to business campaigns as well as to military battles, and the Supply Chain professional seeking victory for the company and its operations develops a comprehensive plan for doing business battle. "Supply Chain Architecture: A Blueprint for Networking the Flow of Material, Information, and Cash" by William T. Walker is an indispensable tool for developing such a plan. This book takes what could otherwise be an overwhelming task, that of defining an effective Supply Chain network flow, and brings to it an organized, understandable, and all-inclusive approach.
"Supply Chain Architecture" is highly effective as a guide for approaching Supply Chain network development because the depth of the content is matched by the book's very orderly approach in showing the Supply Chain professional how to proceed. Starting by drawing the overall Supply Chain map and defining a clear language for relating to a Supply Chain network, Walker lays out alternative Supply Chain strategies and the business and operational implications of each. Typical of the book, a wealth of detailed tables and figures provide specific guidance for this analysis process. Walker proceeds to explore the inter-company issues of collaboration and how to effectively build a Supply Chain network, and then addresses the critical issues in building such a network: the flow of information, tracking and measuring network performance, and the on-the-ground operation of the network. Walker rounds out the blueprint with a view from the financial perspective, showing the impact and opportunities that Supply Chain Architecture offers, together with a summarizing chapter and an Appendix that literally provides step-by-step instructions for this process. At every stage, Walker challenges us to move from conventional Supply Chain thinking to a broader-view, highly concise approach that focuses us on the objectives we want to accomplish.
While supplying a huge amount of hands-on material, Walker makes sure it is a nurturing river of information rather than a destructive tsunami of data by overlaying several storylines into the beginning and end of each chapter. These storylines follow "daily life" activities that illustrate key points in narrative format, and are a delightful way to maintain an overview understanding of the core concepts. This approach makes "Supply Chain Architecture" a complete package - the conceptual and the technical play off each other to complete the reader's understanding of the process of architecting the Supply Chain network.
One can easily imagine Sun Tzu smiling approvingly at the "many calculations" that William Walker gives us as he prepares us for Supply Chain victory. Planning a Supply Chain network, like planning a military campaign, is neither simple nor easy, but with "Supply Chain Architecture" as the map the Supply Chain professional can move into the battle confidently and with the blueprint needed to achieve Supply Chain success.
Something new on SCM.......2004-12-20
"Supply chain management" is becoming a meaningless cliche. This textbook spells out- significant (as opposed to occasional/nominal) trading partners, importance of cash flow & lead time- in standard APICS terminology. Introduces parameters for outsourcing manufacturing & logistics. Up-to-date, compared with many logistics tomes.

Product stands by itself.......2007-08-29
This is a law book that many 1L's will come across this year and years to come. Having said that if you're reading this review you probably are shopping for a law book because it is on a reading list for a class. When I purchased this book through Amazon, with the expedited 2 day shipping, it was still cheaper than other comparable law websites (lawbooks.com, barristerbooks.com etc). Having said that the book was the right edition and brand new for a price that was slightly less than what I would have paid at the bookstore (considering I was in NY and the law school was in MA that wouldn't have been prudent). So if you are wary of buying used; stressing day-in-day-out whether the seller is going to send the book or if they'll send the right edition or numerous other problems that may run through your mind when purchasing a used book from an anonymous source without even seeing the product, then buy this new edition. You'll be happy to know you got a great product for a reasonable price. Plus without the notes or highlight marks that may distract some readers (present company included)
Good but needs a good teacher.......2004-10-29
So you have K and you have the book you have to read for K. Well 1st I must say that this is a great K book.
However, it strays into some IP (I think) space with the ProCD case. Thus, my K teacher skips a lot of cases not out of time concerns but for content. There are a lot of international cases which are more or less worthless in my class. It is amazing how the UK cases are simply spoken from the bench and not written yet the prose is of immense quality.
Also there are lots of sub cases that are not bolded. Often I miss them as I am briefing so you have to keep your eyes open for them.
Legendary Contracts Book.......2004-02-12
You probably have no choice whether to purchase this book or not as it is likely required and if it was not what in the world would you be doing buying one of these?
Yet if you are required you are in luck. Farnsworth's book is legendary. The selection of cases hits all the right points from drunken farm sales, to conniving socialites, and a classic selection of King's Bench tales.
Not only are the cases well selected, but the budding law student gets to read Farnsworth's wry commentary and always salient observations. The only downside is his inclusion of foreign contract law representing his love of travels around the world but this is a minor flaw.
There is but one legend of Contract Case Books and his name is Farnsworth!
Book Description

Save your money there is a 2007 edition.......2007-08-29
I had ordered this because it was required for my contracts class (see my review of the casebook) and after receiving this edition I found out from the message board at my law school that there was a 2007 edition that would be needed for that class (there were new articles about internet rights and the what not that are not included in 2003). So be forewarned: if your teacher wants you to use this edition ask to make sure that it is the 2003 and not the 2007. I did and lucky enough I was able to return the product to Amazon but only after they subtracting the shipping fee and waited a week for them to credit my credit card.
Book Description
After your casebook, "Casenotes" will be your most important reference source for the entire semester. It is the most popular legal briefs series available, with over 140 titles, and is relied on by thousands of students for its expert case summaries, comprehensive analysis of concurrences and dissents, as well as of the majority opinion in the briefs.

Well worth the price.......2007-09-19
This is a excellent text from a renowned author. He explains the subject in a complete and methodological fashion that helps to make the concepts clear. He also doesn't shy away from including contradictory and historical information where appropriate, and the extensive case citation helps to demonstrate the concepts.
Decent at best.......2007-01-14
This particular study guide is marginally helpful. I personally was in a situation where my professor wrote our contracts text, and he recommended Farnsworth. The text is decent as far as understanding and set-up, but in my opinion, there are better study guides out there. The contracts edition of the examples and explanations series is one of them.
WOW........2005-12-17
I bought this book based on the reviews and before I even received it in the mail, I contemplated sending it back to Amazon because I already had the Legalines and the Emanuel supplements for the Farnsworth text (I am a supplement/hornbook fiend). I really didn't think I could use much more help than I already had. The Legalines is good if at times you have trouble trying to figure out what exactly is going on in the cases. It's a good fall-back--I would not completely rely on this book, however. The Emanuel is excellent; like all the others, it gives you definitions and explains concepts clearly. The practice questions at the end of each section are very helpful, to make sure you are on the right track and are able to apply the concepts (the most important thing!). However, as soon as I opened up this treatise, I was in love. If you are going to get any supplement for the Farnsworth text, this is THE ONE. He explains everything clearly and concisely--in plain words, so its easy to comprehend. If you don't understand the underlying concepts in the text even after your professor makes attempts at penetrating your brain, open up this book and the light will go on. If I could only keep one of my contracts supplements, this would be it, hands down. It is a little pricey, but go for it anyway. I'm totally keeping this for the bar exam.
A REALLY GREAT CONTRACTS HORNBOOK .........2003-10-27
This is a really great COntracts Hornbook - Farnsworth lays out headnotes/topic sentences in the margins which narrate the particular paragraph/sub-issue you are reading - which assists one in building their outline - IE use the headnotes as one-line topic summary. HOWEVER
< I ratd this a "4" because Farnsworth has dropped several of the older classic contract cases for newer - more current cases - therefore - to be REALLY complete - I would get the older edition Farnsworth Contracts as well ( so you are covered with all the casebook cases ) - they can be had for $5.00 - $10.00 just about anywhere. I had mine listed on AMAZON, but have withdrawn it because of this little issue - I use them both - the differences are pretty minor as far as the theory. Actually, the earlier editions is a lighter read - the footnote info of the later edition - are paragraphs in the earlier editions..
"Contract's"??.......2002-12-12
If the author's misuse of the apostrophe in the title is any indication of how they wrote the rest of the book, I would stay away.
Book Description
The Fifth Edition of Farnsworth's Contracts features rich and varied text and note materials in addition to significant cases. Select cases are introduced by text. "Mistake as a ground for avoiding a contract" now appears in Chapter 8, in conjunction with material on commercial impracticability and frustration.
The Fifth Edition also carries forward, and enhances, opportunities for teachers to put before students the ethical responsibilities of attorneys and the consequences of neglecting such responsibilities.

A great casebook........1999-07-13
Farnsworth's love of human trivia makes this case book far more compelling than most. It is a captivating introduction to the subject.
Excellent casebook........1998-09-14
I learned contracts with this book and it is excellent!
Book Description
This is a compilation that contains the major statutes affecting contract law.

I learned more from this than my textbook........2001-01-14
I highly recommend purchasing this in addition to your text. It is a very useful reference tool.
Product Description
Cases and Materials on Contracts, 1972 2nd Edition, by Allan Farnsworth, William Young, & Harry Jones. Hardcover with 1036 pages.
Product Description
Suitable for use in combination with any law school contract text or casebook, the 2007 Edition of Selections for Contracts: Statutes, Restatement Second, Forms compiles the major statutes, forms, and other materials affecting contract law. The supplement provides Uniform Commercial Code Articles 1 and 2; the Uniform Electronic Transactions Act; the Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce Act; Restatement of the Law, Second, of Contracts; the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods; the UNIDROIT Principles of International Commercial Contracts; and selected forms. Highlights of the 2007 Edition include: The presentation of Article 1 of the Uniform Commercial Code has been reorganized inasmuch as more than half of the states have now enacted revised Article 1. Both versions of Article 1 are presented. In each case, though, the presentation is abridged by the elision of provisions not relevant to contract law under the Uniform Commercial Code. As in previous editions, both the current version of Article 2 and the proposed amendments promulgated in 2003 are included. The presentation of the proposed amendments has been clarified by indicating proposed changes from current law by underlines and strikeouts. In addition, recent technical amendments to the text of the proposed amendments have been incorporated. Of course, in light of the failure (to date) of states to enact the proposed amendments, the main educational role served by their inclusion in the materials is to enable "compare and contrast" discussions rather than to exemplify the current state of the law. Materials on electronic commerce (the Uniform Electronic Transactions Act and the federal ESIGN Act) have been added. The presentation of the UNIDROIT Principles of International Commercial Contracts has been updated to reflect the current version. New section on Selected Contracts and Agreements providing actual contracts from well-known cases, such as Wood v. Lucy, Peevyhouse v. Garland Coal Mining Co., Dalton v. ETS, and Bloor v. Falstaff Brewing Co.

Description:
Cactus pear (Opuntia ficus indica) is native to Tunisia and the fruit is consumed exclusively as fresh fruit. The seed oil is rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids but the nutritive value of the oil is unknown. The objective of our research was to determine the fatty acid content of cactus pear seed oil and to evaluate the effect of an oil supplemented diet on rats. The main fatty acids of prickly pear seed oil were C16:0, C18:0, C18:1, C18:2 with an exceptional level of linoleic acid, up to 700gkg^-^1, and a total content of unsaturated fatty acids of 884.8gkg^-^1. Feed intake and body weight of rats were measured every two days during the nine weeks of treatment. Digestibility, feed conversion efficiency and protein efficiency ratio were determined. No difference in digestibility was noted for the oil enriched diet. The results indicated a significant decrease in serum glucose concentration (22%) over the control group. However, an increase in the concentration of glycogen was noted in liver and muscle. Blood cholesterol and low density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol decreased in the treated group. High density lipoprotein (HDL)-cholesterol concentration remained unaltered during the treatment. These findings support the nutritional value of cactus pear as a natural source of edible oil containing essential fatty acids and reinforce the possibility of cactus pear as a new crop for Tunisia especially in semi-arid regions, where conventional crops are difficult to establish.
