5 out of 5 stars The Only GAAP Guide to Purchase.......2001-11-02

The definitive GAAP guide. Readable, usable, and easy to understand, it is the best GAAP guide that I have ever purchased. It includes the most recent developments and analysis of all generally accepted accounting principals set forth in the pronouncements by the FASB, AICPA, and EITF. The analysis is what makes this guide so great and so practical. In clear and concise language, it explains and offers guidance on all of the pronouncements. Plus, it contains the more real world examples and more illustrations than any other GAAP guide.

I am very impressed with this reference book. It has saved me valuable time in my accounting practice. I have turned to it a number of times this past year, and so far Warren Ruppel has never let me down. He seems to have a nack for presenting a clear and thorough understanding of each topic in a concise manner. I also recommend accounting material written by Rhett Harrell.

5 out of 5 stars Continues to be the top book for Governmental GAAP........2002-03-23

I've been using the GAAP for Governments book for the past three years and not only does it continue to impress me, but it keeps getting better. It is complete, easy-to-read, and has been instrumental in helping me and my associates in our practice. I've read similar books on Governmental GAAP but no other book seems to explain these difficult topics in such a clear and complete manner. This is one of the most valuable books I have every owned.

4 out of 5 stars Guidelines valuable to everybody.......2007-07-27

I found this book unexpectedly useful, complete and easy to read. It contains the kind of statistical knowledge that medical people do like to see. It is not another textbook that reviews medical statistics. However it provides the clues to understand and classify all these statistical jargon and processes that cause difficulties to eveybody that loves to handle statistics himself.I fully recommend it

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Reference for Preparing for Peer-Reviewed Manuscript Submissions.......2007-06-27

This is the best reference book I have found on the topic of how to present data for manuscripts to be submitted to peer-reviewed journals. It is easy to use, super easy to understand, and covers all elements of the manuscript preparation process as far as data representation is concerned. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a book on the subject. It includes many examples of data tables, figures, and even examples of how to write up titles and data descriptions.

    5 out of 5 stars Incredibly useful.......2007-02-11

The material is presented in a way that will help medical writers understand clinical trials more fully, and answer questions that come while writing.

4 out of 5 stars Good for beginners .......2005-09-30

I am glad to read this book before I prepared for my statistical clinical studies. This book could give you basic ideas, but you need to discuss with your collegues or use more advanced books to improve further.

5 out of 5 stars Understanding biostatistics without becoming a statistican.......2000-07-20

As a medical writer and editor at The Cleveland Clinic, Thomas A. Lang found that the lack of clear understanding of statistics by non-statisticians affected the clarity of their writing. Physicians had the same problem while writing up their research papers for publication. Lang perceived a need among medical and science writers to understand just enough of biostatistics to make them better writers and editors without becoming statisticians themselves. He devised workshops that were conducted by the American Medical Writers Association which were enormously successful. The logical next step was to write this book based on the valuable teaching experience and feedback he got at those courses. In other words, this is a book that wasn't written in a vacuum but is the result of a perceived need, and the author's experience in meeting that need. Co-author Michelle Secic has also contributed with her expertise, making it a valuable book for people in this field.

    Book Description

This compact, portable, no-nonsense, non-threatening reference for writers offers concise—yet thorough—coverage of all writing issues, with material organized around the stages of the writing process. It devotes as much time to the whys of writing (the emphasis on rhetoric) as the hows (grammar, spelling, punctuation handbook), since writers who know why they are doing something are more likely to slow down and master it. Examines the different but overlapping stages of writing—planning, drafting, researching, revising, and editing. Addresses rhetorical issues of audience, purpose and voice as well as the more technical issues of style, grammar, punctuation, and mechanics, emphasizing the actual choices that writers make rather than arbitrary rules. For anyone who wants to improve their writing skills.

    1 out of 5 stars 1984.......2005-08-14

I read this and am reminded of 1984. The tortured arrival at a non offensive language, suggestions for such to writers, is repulsive.

This is intellectual vandalism. Works of literature are not vehicles for consciousness raising unless that is the subject.

Something about this makes me wonder if the writer has gotten on a narrow path, obsessive in nature, and cannot simply do her job.

1 out of 5 stars Of Shrews and Schoolmarms.......2001-08-24

The very concept of this book is deeply offensive to anyone who values freedom of speech and thought, or good writing. Don't these people realize that they are engaging in intentional brainwashing? You can't change reality by changing the words; you have to change it by changing the reality. Resist these intellectual totalitarians at every opportunity! Use (and treasure) precise, vigorous language, eschew emasculated, politically correct twaddle.

4 out of 5 stars Every writer could benefit from this book.......2001-04-13

I read every journalism reference book I can get my hands on and this one is terrific. It offers excellent advice on how to use words when dealing with topics such as race, gender and ethnicity, and it does so in an easy-to-use dictionary format. My only complaint: It differs slightly from the most recent AP guide on some word usage. But this is definitely one reference tool I wouldn't want to be without.
