Not very helpful.......2004-08-30

This book is not very helpful. After reading the entire book, I felt I had not learned more than I had by casually glancing over the program. It does not go into very much detail and leaves many questions unanswered. Don't waste your time with this book if you're looking to really understand the nuts and bolts of Quicken.

Don't waste your money.......2003-08-23

Maybe I need a book for super dummies, but I thought this book was a total waste. I have the basic version of Quicken 2003 and this book spent most of the time talking about the Deluxe and Premier versions. Even when Basic was mentioned, the screen shots were never the same nor were the menus.

It isn't much better than the on-line help menus (and they are almost useless). I am using Quicken through trial and error and hope to eventually figure it out. If not, I can always go back to my old Excel spreadsheets.

An Outstanding Reference.......2003-07-14

Answered all of my questions. Far superior to struggling with Intuit's opaque "Help" file. Gives great "How to" advice and leads you through a do-able set-up in a very capable piece of software which is - in my opinion - poorly explained in its own accompanying documentation. A real help.

Easy to understand and follow.......2002-12-15

This book is great. I needed a computer program to track my investments and my income and expenses for tax purposes. I bought Quicken but was dismayed at how hard it was to get going with the software. This book laid down the basics so that I could understand them, and got me into the sophisticated stuff such that I feel I'm getting the most out Quicken.

I'm tracking my investments. I can turn on Quicken and see right away how my investments are doing. My financial picture is finally in order thanks to this book and the advice it gave me.

Successful traders know that before stepping into the wilderness of the speculative markets, you need a solid understanding of basic market behavior. But the conventional methods often fall short of providing this basic knowledge. Academics assert one thing, economists and fundamental analysts another, and technicians something altogether different. And, seemingly, none of them agree with each other.

Trading on Expectations explores the ideas behind the dominant schools of analysis, and shows the validity of each and demonstrates how each, albeit at different times, reflects what the market is doing. Sometimes market prices can be predicted using the economists' models; sometimes prices follow a "random walk" as the academics claim; at other times price is responding to the patterns, trendlines, and breakout levels identified by technicians.

It's like a thesis for the academics and not for traders.......2004-08-03

Perhaps this is the most difficult review I had ever written after my 100+ trading related postings here on Amazon. It's just so hard to give you a summary of a book that provides little substance at all. In short, the author used five chapters on economics/psychology/expectations/sentiment, two chapters on TA tools including Market Profile, Long Term Market Activity Chart, two chapters on merging the former paragraphs into the author's Coherent Market Theory and then Sentiment-Activity Model, and five chapters to illustrate the power of the Model on T-Bond, Sobbeans, DM and Crude Oil. Well, does that look like the thesis you and I did in colleges? It doesnt really matter if the ideas are useful and applicable. However, they are not. It's simply not practical at all for any genuine trader, not to mention the low possibility of any reader to understand the usage of Market Profile and LTMA Chart with the little coverage of them in the book. Besides, the writing of the author is really boring.

Very green trader reader may find the first few chapters interesting, but they will certainly get lost from chapter five onwards and can hardly move to chapter seven. In case you got plenty of time and money to waste, that's fine. If not, go for some book else.

p.s. I can hardly believe that the author is a FX trader, and had traded commodities and cash bond for Fortune 500 companies as well. I might prefer him to write books about his trading life instead of giving a long useless lecture on something useless.

This is the Spanish edition of " Growing Better Cities". The United Nations predicts that over the next 25 years nearly all population growth will be in the cities of the developing world. At current rates, 60% of the world’s total population will live in cities by 2030.
As the cities grow, so does the number of urban poor. Unemployment, hunger, and malnutrition are commonplace. In the big city, most of any cash income the poor might bring home goes to feeding themselves and staying alive; any food that does not have to be bought is a bonus. As a result, more and more people are attempting to grow at least some of their own food to supplement poor diets and meager incomes. But farming in the city — urban agriculture — is too often seen by municipalities as a problem to be eradicated rather than as a part of the solution to making the city and its environment more sustainable.
In fact, urban agriculture has a long history. Throughout the developing world, municipal policymakers are waking to the fact that properly managed agriculture can make a major contribution to a city’s food security. It also has potential to provide employment, improve the environment, and make productive use of vacant spaces within the city. More than 20 years ago, IDRC became the first international agency to formally support research on urban agriculture. This book reviews the research experience of IDRC and its partners, including local governments, into the issues surrounding urban agriculture, with a particular emphasis on the influence that research has had on government policies. It describes the growth of city networks in Africa and Latin America that focus on accommodating urban agriculture and improving the lot of urban food producers. And it offers specific recommendations aimed at helping policymakers at all levels of government to maximize the potential of urban agriculture. The book concludes with a vision of how such policies might transform cities in the near future.
This book serves as a focal point for an IDRC thematic Web site on urban agriculture: www.idrc.ca/in_foucus_cities. The full text is available online and leads the reader into a virtual web of resources that explores two decades of research into this important issue.
