Satisfied..........2007-08-23
This book has a ton of information. Mostly for the beginner, but veterans in the trade may also benefit. I've only used the book as a reference, but I plan on reading cover to cover.
Perfect for the unperfect computer user.......2007-03-10
I have thumbed through this book and it is exactly what I need.
Not good for beginners.......2007-01-17
Not very good for my (beginning) purposes. Didn't provide enough information about any single topic for me to do anything.
An Excellent Book at Just the Right Technical Level.......2005-10-19
I've often thought that computer books tend to leave out the first forty pages or so that tell you the broad picture of just what it is that you are trying to do. This book can almost be viewed as the front end of any number of dedicated networking books that start off just about where this one ends. Those books then go off in great detail about the arcane details that as the author of this book says 'apply mostly to networks at places like NASA and the CIA.'
This book starts off with the most basic descriptions: "A network is nothing more than two or more computers connected by a cable (or wireless adapter) so that they can share information. From there it goes on to talk about how to set a network up. It's intended for the complete beginner and talks about things like cables, routers, hubs and so on in a simple and clear language interspersed with enough humor to keep you from going to sleep immediately.
This book is in reference format, it's not intended to be read from start to finish. Each chapter is self standing so you can go read about your problem of the moment. This book is specifically aimed at the beginner. If you're looking for something on trouble shooting or some of the esoteric aspects of networking you need something higher up. But if you're just intending to set up and keep up a small network at home, school or work, this is the best overview I've seen.
Awesome Book!.......2005-08-02
This is really a cool book. I am not currently in the feild, and its not too in depth to the point where you get bored, but it gives you just enough information to get by, and also how and where to look if you want more info. Great Book, easy read.

Customer Reviews:
A lot of information for newbies.......2007-07-28
I just recently purchased this book from an Amazon seller. Not knowing much about the wireless world this one sounded perfect. I enjoyed it. Picked up a lot of insights I'd no clue of before I read it. Admittedly, it's a little bit long in the tooth (copyright 2005) still, for us clueless, it's a big help. Parts really don't relate to my interests (wireless entertainment hookup and a few others) but it is a real help both in understanding what's going on in the wireless world as well as a big help in setting up a wireless, secured network in your own home.
quick intro to wireless computing.......2005-04-17
For the raw beginner in wireless computing, Carter offers quick and easy education. He describes the main modes of usage. This is mostly a hardware book, because you have to decide what types of devices you need to buy, to enable your wireless interaction. The text is pitched towards someone on her own; doing personal computing in her home or small office, and without a tech staff to ask for help.
Significant space is also devoted to using your laptop in a wireless mode when travelling. Be careful about exposing your communications as clear text, that can easily be evesdropped by anyone nearby. But Carter shows how if you drive about a typical American city, you can often find WiFi hotspots that are free to connect to. (Though sometimes this might be inadvertant on the part of their owners!)
Book Description
* Case studies that follow the design process form initial consultation to the end of the pilot.
* Cuts the fluff by providing just the information needed to pass the test rather than reviewing its objectives.
* CD-ROM includes fully customizable test-prep software with hundreds of sample questions modeled on actual CCNP exam questions.
Customer Reviews:
A great place to start.......2004-07-15
This book does a good job of introducing the reader to many of the concepts covered in the CCNP cert exams. If you need a straightforward, plain-language primer on routing protocols, spanning tree, connection options, and support, this is a great book. Unfortunately, it usefulness is limited for some of the details on the 642 series of tests. I *would* recommend this book as part of a layered studying approach to the exams. Additional resources will be more clear after reading this book.
Not enough to pass CCNP.......2003-04-29
This book is more useful for final revision for the CCNP. It does not cover any topic in enough detail to give you the depth of understanding you need for the CCNP. The CD that comes with the book is TERRIBLE. It has errors, missing portions and shows that it was rushed out without any proper quality checking. In short, stick to the Cisco Press books for CCNP information.

* Book 2 - Configuration
* Book 3 - Administration
* Book 4 - Networking
* Book 5 - Security
* Book 6 - Windows PowerShell
* Book 7 - IIS
* Book 8 - Services
-The Configuration book will discuss all kinds of local configuration tasks, such as the new memory and disk management features because many administrators are actually more interested in managing the world outside of the server.
-The Administration book will contain all of these topics--such as working with Active Directory, adding and removing users, and so on.
-The Networking book is connectivity oriented, so it covers yet another area of server management.
-The Services book will cover several things. Windows Server always includes a number of interesting services that fall outside of the normal configuration, user/resource management, and connectivity topics. Book Description
Many theoretical and empirical analyses have been put forward to explain currency crises, but this book is unique in providing an extensive perspective and a comprehensive view of the field.
André Fourçans and Raphaël Franck assert that models concerning the outbreak and the propagation of currency crises share many similarities and may therefore be studied together. Theoretical developments in the currency crises literature lead to three distinct types of models. The authors focus on these first, second and third-generation models of currency crises and also discuss the role of the international financial system in preventing currency crises.
Appealing to graduate students, academics and researchers in international economics, this book is a must have for those interested in learning about currency crises and the evolution of currency crises research.

John McCormick's Understanding the European Union provides a uniquely broad-ranging but concise introduction to the EU, covering in one volume all major aspects of European integration. The third edition is systematically revised and updated throughout reflecting the major changes brought about by the 2004 enlargement round. It also includes a full assessment of the EU constitution, the impact of the Euro, and much expanded coverage of EU policies and policy making.
Customer Reviews:
Great introductory book to think about the FUTURE of EUROPE!!!!!.......2006-02-23
Do you live, or are you planning to live in Europe? Then, this is a must read book.
I am very pleased that I had the chance to read this book. I have recently moved to U.K. and realized the huge impact that the EU had on each European country. You as a citizen of European Union need to understand how EU works and how it can affect your life. If you have not been following the EU development as I (I had been living outside Europe all my life), this book is a great tool to catch up. This book will guide you through the history, issues, and policies of EU which will help you understand the current situation. In the introduction and through out the book the author mentions that so many of the European people do not understand how the EU works... well, lets read this book and learn. This is an introductory book to EU and it is not difficult to read. I am a non native speaker of English but I did not have any problem understanding the content. This is a well researched book giving you up to date information with interesting data represented in figures.
Now that I have caught up with the up to date information about the EU, I am feeling very excited about the future of European Union and individual European countries (sometimes referred as "the states" of the United States of Europe). As I am studying future forecasting, this book not only helped me to understand the history and the current situations in Europe but also gave me hints and ideas about the future of Europe. With the knowledge I gained from this book, now I will understand the news better than I did before, and know what I need to look for in the development of the EU. What policies will be made to integrate the European market? Will it be "single market"? How will the EU's economic power change the balance of the world's economy? Is it going to be NO1 economic power? Cultural and political issues are more difficult to forecast... What will be identified as the culture of EU? What is the balance between the national and EU culture? Is the European Parliament (this is the only European institution that have direct influence from European voters) going to have more influence on EU policy making? Is EU heading towards federalism? The author asks "will it happen, should it happen, what form will it take, what impact will it have if it succeeds, and what impact will it have if it fails?"
I have learnt that it is important to have the right questions when you forecast about the future. This book has definitely provided me with the chance to think about questions that I should be asking for.
As I did, you will have some idea or wishes about the future of Europe by the end of the book. This is the third edition of the book, and I am sure there will be more editions to come.
Excellent Overall Review.......2005-10-24
I'm currently taking a course on the EU in which the professor gave us carte blanche to purchase our own books on the EU. I was delighted to find out that this book was written by a professor who understands what and how to communicate this information to students. Plus, since the writer is a British immigrant, he could incorporate the European perspective of the EU from first-hand experience as opposed to a vicarious one. This book was very good at providing background info (without harping too much on history) and bringing the reader up-to-speed with current events as well as personal thoughts on the EU's future. Kudos to the writer. Thank you very much. Your book was very helpful. Cheers!

Book Description
The European Court of Justice has profoundly influenced the development of the legal order of the European Community through the elaboration of unwritten general principles of law. The general principles derive from the fundamental values underlying the national legal systems. This fully revised and updated Second Edition of The General Principles of EC Law provides a detailed and systematic analysis of the general principles as applied by the European Court of Justice and the Court of First Instance, and as they are influenced by political and legislative developments. It assesses the impact of the EU Constitution on the European polity and the protection of Community rights in national courts. Tridimas highlights the various functions of the general principles, the diverse contexts in which they are employed, and the varying degrees of judicial scrutiny that they entail, focussing on principles including subsidiarity, equality, proportionality, fundamental rights, and the right to a hearing.

Book Description
The Idea of a United Europe examine the issues thrown up by the reintegration of Europe since 1989/90 through the primary perspective of European identity. Political economy here joins contemporary history: European studies specialists from Britain, Germany, and the Netherlands review Europe's progress, now that a decade has passed since the end of the cold war. Differences within Europe and unifying factors are both assessed in the course of this quest to examine what "Europe" has become and is becoming at the turn of the millennium.

Book Description
The new edition of this eminent and authoritative work has been fully updated to encompass the major changes in substantive law, enforcement procedures and case law since the last edition. It examines the impact of modernisation on enforcement by national authorities and courts, while coverage of national decisions post-modernisation is integrated in the book, using information collated from a network of key correspondents in the Member States. Increased coverage of the new system has been introduced in particular within the chapter on the Community Context and the Role of Member States. There is a major new chapter on Market Definition, while coverage of Sectoral regimes and their relationship with competition law is consolidated into a single chapter which focuses in particular upon agriculture, energy, insurance, telecommunications, and transport. The comprehensive accompanying volume of European Community competition law materials (edited by Andrew Macnab, a barrister at Monckton Chambers) has been fully updated to include all of the relevant legislation, Commission Notices and Guidelines, and as a new feature now provides detailed cross-references to the commentary in the main work.

First class analysis; invaluable to practitioner or student.......1999-09-06
This book covers a difficult topic in exactly the right amount of detail. For anyone studying EU competition law, its without doubt one of the best guides, and a must for the bookshelf.
Book Description
In this book Tamar Herzog explores the emergence of a specifically Spanish concept of community in both Spain and Spanish America in the eighteenth century. Challenging the assumption that communities were the natural result of common factors such as language or religion, or that they were artificially imagined, Herzog reexamines early modern categories of belonging. She argues that the distinction between those who were Spaniards and those who were foreigners came about as local communities distinguished between immigrants who were judged to be willing to take on the rights and duties of membership in that community and those who were not.
Book Description
National courts play a pivotal role in making EC law a living truth for citizens. Individuals may turn to the courts in order to invoke rights derived from Community law. However, the capacity of individuals to effectively enforce their Community law rights depends crucially on the correct application of Community law by national courts. This book is the first to deal with possible legal responses in the Community legal order and beyond, when national courts incorrectly apply Community law. Rooted in a rigorous contextual analysis of recent jurisprudence, this work discusses various alternatives for future developments in the Court´s case law. The author explains the often uneasy nature of the relationship between national courts and the ECJ. He explores common concerns voiced against an excessive degree of accountability for judicial conduct.
