5 out of 5 stars The Best C# for Experienced Java and C++ Progrmmers.......2004-06-24

A concise, no-nonsense book. All topics are cut to the chase. This book is for C++ and Java pros who want to master C# in the shortest time possible. I also have 3 other C# books. Only this one calms me down and gives me the joy of reading while learning. However, for people who is new to programming, I recommend "Learn to Program with C#" by John Smiley. My 3rd book, "C# in a Nutshell" is a good choice for reference. My 4th one, "Introduction to C# Using .Net" is good too, but the topics covered are not as broad as this one.

For donwloading this book's sample code, it points to www.phptr.com/tapadiya/dotnet/, which no longer works. Instead, go http://www.tapadiya.net/pradeep/ComPlusBook.htm#CodeSamples, a link I finally found after 10 minutes of Google search.

5 out of 5 stars Liked it a lot.......2003-06-15

I liked this book. It starts with very basic things about .NET (what .NET is and what it's for, tools, basics of C#, etc.) and takes you to advanced topics. My employer wanted to move our development to .NET platform, and with this book alone, I was able to master .NET enough to get to a pretty advanced level quite fast.

When a new topic is covered, the author provides an introduction to the problem. It often helps to get the right perspective on what you study. It's very far from being a dry reference book. I found it to be written in an easy to understand the language, detailed enough and not too wordy, and to explain things in a practical way. I like Tapadiya's style, in general. I liked his other book (about COM programming) too. I enjoyed reading it.

The book is not for those who are looking for a general programming tutorial. I think it requires some experience in software creation, although maybe not a whole lot.

5 out of 5 stars Refined and well thought out.......2002-12-18

This book isn't as code oriented as Ferguson or Troelsen's text on c#, but seems to deal more with concepts and common trouble points with the language and environment. Much like Tapadiya's last book, it is well thought out and demonstrates a good insight in the subject matter. A good read.

5 out of 5 stars Simply the best (c) book about .NET.......2002-11-05

If you are looking for good introduction.
This book is your best choice.
Very consistent, without any "poetry" (like in last Richter's book).
Mr.Tapadiya's two book about COM+ and .NET must have any Windows developer.

5 out of 5 stars Most underrated .Net book out there.......2002-10-04

This book is a treasure trove of .Net information. It is underrated and not seen often in bookstores. This book complements Richter's book on .Net Framework programming and is a boon for any C#/.NETer.

4 out of 5 stars Very Useful.......2006-07-21

Great book with very detailed examples on the relationship between different fixed income instruments. My only complaint (and it is a very minor one) is lack of problems at the end of each chapter to help solidify the concepts. Otherwise, an excellent book.

4 out of 5 stars Ver practical book with detailed examples.......2006-02-25

This is a very practical book with detailed examples to help reader with the basic concept and Eurodollar Futures and Options. Very useful for beginners in this field. The last half of the book is dealing with more advanced topic more suitable for fix incoming researchers.

5 out of 5 stars The Standard!.......2003-08-06

Clearly the best book on Eurodollar futures and options. The book is a must for anyone involved in fixed income securities.

5 out of 5 stars Highly recommended.......2003-07-23

Having just finished reading the author's treatment of bond futures in the 'Treasury Bond Basis,' I was happy to see that Burghardt was updating some of his material from the early 1990s on Eurodollar futures. The 'Bond Basis' was an excellent and thorough analysis, and 'The Eurodollar Futures and Options Handbook' follows the same trend.

He provides an excellent overview of the institutional details of Eurodollars and their uses. The book is at its strongest when dealing with issues of the convexity bias and also scores high by not neglecting important issues like the stub period. Perhaps my favorite chapter was on callable bonds and the extension/compression risk, which, while a little misplaced in a book on Eurodlllars, still provided a very lucid explanation of the relevant issues.

With regard to options, the author touches upon some of the interest strategic combinations using serial and mid-curve options, but I feel that he could've delved a bit deeper in this part of the book. It's the only area in which I felt the book was somewhat lacking.

Having said all that, if you're looking to learn about Eurodollar futures, I can't imagine there's a better book out there. This is an excellent compilation of a number of Burghardt's research from the 1990s together with more recent updates. Even if Eurodollars are not your main area of expertise, this book will still help you to gain a more solid understanding of many of the pertinent topics in fixed income.

1 out of 5 stars a lot of information.......2006-07-14

trading results for specific a entry day and exit day are given. Since there are 250 (5 times 50 weeks) trading days in a year, then there are 250 times 250 permutations. Which comes to 62,500 possible entry/exit combinations. Apply this to 20 commodities, over 10 years, and different contract months...

High probabilities can be found in a random population given such huge number of combinations or 62,500 x10 x20 = 1,250,000

Fortunately Jake only gives the the high probablility ones.

2 out of 5 stars Just anwers for the Commodity Trading Manual.......2001-01-31

This workbook contents only the anwers for the questions inside the Manual. The questions are just text interpretation and don't represent nothing than a method of study. I don't think that it is useful for people that want to understand the markets and need case studies.

4 out of 5 stars A good reference of futures market and commodities.......2001-01-31

The book tells the CBOT history and has tecnical information about the major commodities trader there ( agricultural, financial and energy ), including specifications, top producers and consumers. It helps to understand the market functioning and principal tools, like futures contracts and options, although dont't has useful technics about how to evaluate the prices or the market beaviour. It's a good reference book of futures market.

                      Book Description

Over the past decade, organic products have become the fastest growing sector of agriculture, with an annual increase of at least 20 percent. This book explains why organic production and consumption have seen such phenomenal growth in recent years—and, even more important, why they should. A clear-eyed, close-up look at the compelling reasons for organic farming and the methods that make it work, Good Growing begins with a frank account of the problems with conventional industrial agriculture—the pesticide use, pollution, and corporate control that have undermined public health and devastated rural towns and family farms.
In-depth interviews with working organic farmers from across the country bring to life the facts and figures that Leslie Duram sets out in her extensive overview of the realities of organic farming today. Farmers with very different operations in California, Colorado, Illinois, Florida, and upstate New York give us an intimate understanding of the ecological, social, economic, and personal factors that shape their farming experiences. We also learn firsthand about the attractions and pleasures as well as the problems and concerns that accompany organic farming.
With its comprehensive view of the status of farming and its compelling portraits of organic farmers, Good Growing is, finally, a work of scientific advocacy describing a course of action, based on the best research available, to improve the health of agriculture in our day.

3 out of 5 stars An organic farming report.......2007-06-13

This book reads like a report written for an intro college class. It is all statistics and interviews . . . not much if any new ideas about organic farming. This may be an interesting read for someone interested in organic farming but for those of us who are already practicing it (or trying to) it doesn't really accomplish much. I think that the statistics could be helpful if you need to construct a business plan. My favorite part of the book were the interviews--it gave me a better idea of the variety of organic producers out there and a bit of biographical info. However, overall, I did not learn anything that I could test out on our farm. This was not nearly as helpful as Joel Salatin's books or other books offered by ACRES.

5 out of 5 stars This book is excellent for the small homesteader........1999-04-20

I find this book to be an invaluable source of reference. Each area (animal, insect or vegtable) is covered in a short, easy, humerous style. It even covers the basics of beekeeping! The gardening section and the poultry sections are especially good. I would recommend this book for use as a quick reference or as a source for those starting out a small farm to decide which type garden or creatures are the best for their farm.

                              Book Description

Every day some of the most toxic poisons - poisons that eventually effect all life on earth - are sprayed on the foods we eat: apples, peaches, corn, grapes, and strawberries, to name a few. In eloquent words and pictures, One Good Apple makes a cogent, urgent case for healthier agricultural practices, exploring with precision and care the destructiveness of pesticides and fertilizers to everything from the smallest organisms to the water we drink. The author shows how, in our attempt to control nature, we are growing food that harms not only us but also the very balance of nature, a balance we need to better understand and protect. Here is a book to empower our next generation of gardeners and farmers by presenting a way of growing good food that nourishes not only us, but the earth as well.

2 out of 5 stars Perpetuates the DDT Myth.......2006-07-12

This book, sadly, perpetuates the myth that DDT is harmful. This book should not be bought and is hardly worth reading. It seems to be made for children, as there is not much content. I did see some interesting varieties of apples and tomatoes in the book, but that hardly makes it worth buying.
