5 out of 5 stars Book-How to do everything with your GPS.......2007-09-22

The book was very informative and told just about all you need to know about using a GPS unit in most all situations and it did it in an informative and sometimes jokingly way which made it very interesting reading and just hard to stop reading, you just kept having to go a little farther.

very useful.

4 out of 5 stars How to do everything with your GPS.......2006-03-09

Great book!
A lot of great tips.
A whole lot of useful information to get your GPS running at full speed ahead.

3 out of 5 stars Good info but very general.......2006-02-15

I think the title of this book is a little aggressive. It really doesn't tell you much about HOW to do anything unless you own an iQue 3600. It does, however, cover the many things you might want to do with your GPS so if you are just interested in what a GPS could do for you then this is a good place to start.

About one third of the book covers the iQue 3600 in good detail. I don't have one of those so I can't tell you how accurate it is.

1 out of 5 stars Don't bother !.......2005-09-12

A very disappointing book.
very little useful information about using GPS for geocaching.
most of what IS here can be gotten for free on the many web sites dedicated to GPS, and on the excellent forums some of these web sites have.

4 out of 5 stars Very helpful for beginners.......2004-02-11

I purchased two copies of this book, one for me and one for my dad. I was most interested in the geocaching game, which is really fun. The book helped me figure out what kind of GPS to buy and how to use it for the game. My dad just got one of those IQUE GPS/pdas, and the book has a couple really good chapters on that. There's maybe not as much "how to" stuff in some chapters as there could be, but I learned a lot about GPS. I recommend it for anyone who's new to GPS or just bought an IQUE.

    Book Description

The spread of knowledge is a significant consequence of the process of globalization. Knowledge is used to tackle very diverse issues such as development challenges in emerging markets or the perplexity of corporate decision-makers in the business world. The creation and proper governance of actionable knowledge and intellectual capital have become key preconditions for sustained societal and corporate competitiveness in an era of rapid globalization. This represents new opportunities and challenges for policy makers, business leaders, managers and employees in both public and private sector organizations.

This new book examines both the theoretical and practical aspects of effective knowledge governance and knowledge management in the context of an increasingly competitive, globalised marketplace. Several case studies of Asian countries and organizations are presented, aimed at analyzing factors that impact the governance of knowledge and exemplifying practices policy makers and business leaders adopted to manage knowledge resources and knowledge processes to their fullest potential.

This unique compilation may be used as textbook in undergraduate courses on knowledge management and organizational learning as well as by those interested in development issues and Asian studies. It also provides a rich learning resource for respective graduate courses and executive education programs.

          Book Description

Originally published by the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Office of Natural Environment to promote the planting and care of native plants along highway rights-of-way, this unique handbook provides managers of roadsides and adjacent lands with the information and background they need to make site-specific decisions about what kinds of native plants to use, and addresses basic techniques and misconceptions about using native plants. It brings together in a single volume a vast array of detailed information that has, until now, been scattered and difficult to find.

The book opens with eighteen short essays on principles of ecological restoration and management from leading experts in the field including Reed F. Noss, J. Baird Callicott, Peggy Olwell, and Evelyn Howell. Following that is the heart of the book, more than 500 pages of comprehensive state-by-state listings that offer:

          .

The appendix adds definitions, bibliography, and policy citations to clarify any debates about the purpose and the direction of the use of native plants on roadsides.

Roadside Use of Native Plants is a one-of-a-kind reference whose utility extends far beyond the roadside, offering a toolbox for a new aesthetic that can be applied to all kinds of public and private land. It can help lead the way to a cost-effective ecological approach to managing human-designed landscapes, and is an essential book for anyone interested in establishing or restoring native vegetation.

            Book Description

This was the first translation of these annals into English. It was published in 1846, and appears here exactly as the copy in the IGF library, with additions. The time period covered by the Four Masters here is from the 12th to the 17th century, with annotations covering the earliest times in Irish History. This is a two volume set, with color frontis in each, and a large folding map showing the location of families as given in the annals themselves. Celtic lettering is found on specific pages. New IGF map index included in this edition only. There is no comparable work to that of the Four Masters in Irish History and genealogy.

            5 out of 5 stars J. Chrys Dougherty - early review.......2006-08-22

I haven't had time for more than a brief review of both volumes, but since our family from Derrylehan, Donegal, is descended from the O'Daughertaighs of Inshowen, this work is a treasure of infomation of which I have long known but now for the first time have had access to in an excellent translation. I have traced all references to the O'Dohertys in both volumes, but have not yet had time to trace the grandmother's McMahans of Fermanaugh. These books are a big help to anyone wanting to understand the culture of Ireland from the 11th to the 17th century.

5 out of 5 stars First Ever English Translation of the Four Masters (1846).......2003-08-07

A very impressive work, in 2 volumes, hardbound, with four color frontis and the almost forgotten original map of Irish Family locations. The fold out map is about 20 x 25 and is the best of the genre. The Annals by the Four Masters are perhaps the most noted source in Irish history and this was the first translation into English (1846). The formal text is complete from the 12th to the 17th century. In addition, the annotations cover Irish history from the earliest times. We have been waiting for this edition to be published ! (note that Connellans translation preceeded that of O'Donovan.) Helpful index to the old map has been added for the first time. These Annals are in the English language. A few pages have some age markings on them from the original, and it remains a magnificent set of books. All in all, this is one of a kind, with a distinctive color frontis, some celtic lettering, and a map that has been out of print for over 150 years . If you have been waiting for the Annals as we have,
this is a real treat. Connellan, was a leading gaelic scholar, and this first ever translation laid the groundwork for all that would follow in the field.

1 out of 5 stars TV Land to Go: Big Book of TV lists, TV Lore and TV Bests.......2004-07-08

This is a terrible book for any TV buff over the age of 6.

            3 out of 5 stars Hit&Miss.......2004-05-03

I dig myself some TV Land but this Book picks different episodes&things that I feel are alright&some others that I prefer but there isn't a fair overall balance displayed within this book.

2 out of 5 stars CLASSIC TV BUT NOT A CLASSIC BOOK.......2004-01-19

This book is a collection of lists. But many of the lists are nonsense lists that are just cute attempts at humor.

The highlight of the book was the 100 greatest sitcom episodes. Even if I could figure out their formula the list is at best controversial. As another reviewer indicated some of the episodes that made it made no sense to me. The number one episode in the list was not even, in my opinion, the number one show for the series. It was a good episode but ...

TV Land is a great network. "TV Land To Go" is not a great book.

2 out of 5 stars Based in Opinion.......2003-08-09

The book seems to be grounded primarily in one person's personal opinion rather than a public opinion poll. You will cringe to see what episodes made it to this list, and you'll be disappointed that some shows never even made it. This book is only a moderately enjoyable bathroom read. Several inexcusable factual errors forced me to put the book to rest in a recycle bin.

4 out of 5 stars A tongue-in-cheek look at TV from the TV Land perspective.......2003-03-29

Within the pages of Tom Hill's "TV Land to Go: The Big Book of TV Lists, TV Lore, and TV Bests" you will find a list of the Worst Possible Men's Softball Team (composed of classic TV stars). We are talking a battery comprised of pitcher Jack Benny and catcher Paul Lynde and a keystone combination of David Hyde Pierce (Niles Crane) and Howard McNear (Floyd the Barber). If that does not give you a clear picture of the level of insanity provided within the pages of this volume, then nothing is going to accomplish that task and you should just go back to watching the tube.

Tom Hill is the creative director and head writer at TV Land, where he claims responsibility for the network's trademark tongue-in-cheek on-air promotions. By no means is this a definitive look at television even though The Top 100 Sitcom Episodes of All Time are determined by using an actual scientific formula (patent pending) called The Big TV Satisfaction Ratio, which involves such factors as SyndicoDurability, Comic Valence, and Emotional Resonance along with more fun things like Celebrity, Gimmickry, Theme Song and Kitsch. But do you really need to go through all of that mathematical computation to put "Chuckles Bites the Dust" from "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" at the top of the list? Besides, as soon as you see there is nothing from "I Love Lucy" in the Top 10 you know there is a serious flaw here. Still, it is fun to recognize classic episodes and to hear about ones that you missed and you have to admire the idea that anything from "Hogan's Heroes" or "Family Affair" should be anywhere on this list.

"TV Land to Go" does have some utility for students of the history of television, especially from a popular culture perspective, but this is ultimately more of a celebration of the medium than a critical study. Most of what you will find here is pure opinion (e.g., TV 15's Greatest Grumps) or outright fiction (e.g., The Innovators of TV Land), but there are attempts at more traditional academic research, such as the reading of the choreography of the "Brady Bunch" opening. The result is a fun book that you can pick up and leaf through and fun something of interest, whether it be The 11 Greatest Hair Crises in TV History (#7 Laura blabbing that Alan Brady is bald) or The 9 Best Production Slates (#1 Jack Webb's Mark VII Hammer).

If you're looking for a great collection of folklore and can look beyond the obvious prejudices of Victorian America, then Skinner's two volume compilation is for you. Published in the years before the establishment of the American Folklore Society, and well before folklore and ethnography became real topics of study in the U.S., this compilation is a treasure trove of information tricked out in Victorian gingerbread prose. Skinner takes us from the Notheast to the South, across the heartland, and on to the West coast stopping along the way to consider marvelous happenings, "Indian" lovers' leaps, pacts with the devil, buried treasure, rains of stones, lake monsters, and other local lore. Unfortunately, documentation is missing. In addition I sometimes have the feeling that Skinner cribbed from the old boiler plate subscription services that editors of country newspapers often padded out their issues with, meaning that some of the stories may simply be "fake" lore. Many stories also seem to echo each other in plot, word choice, and idiom, which may be more an indication of Mr. Skinner's artistic limitations than a reflection on the veracity of the contents. Warts and all, however, this set is a must have for serious students of American folklore, if only to see what written form it took at the turn of the nineteenth century.

                  Book Description

Stone walls are relics left by previous generations to record their history on the landscape of New York's Catskill Mountains. The author has followed many of these venerable walls in a surveying career spanning fifty years. He is a keen observer of the landscape, of nature, and of the folkways of the memorable characters he has encountered in the woods. His books of mystery fiction set in the Catskills are also available from Amazon.
