Book Description
This is an ideas-led, exuberant documentary about the converging strands of a new era, the empowerments of cyber-technology, and the precipitation of new ways of life. Originally written in 1994, it outlines the strands of the cyber subculture as it was emerging-- the favored drugs, the influential individuals, the hackers and their motivations, the science chaos and the complexity of fractuals. This book will endure as a reminder of how modern cyberculture came about--a note to the future form an individual perceptive enough to grasp the profound effects of the cyber revolution.

Drugs not cyberspace.......2005-11-08
Under the guise of being a "theory" and "lifestyle" view of the communities arising around cyberspace, this book bats around the usual suspects - chaos theory, new cultures, modern life - and then degrades into a comparison between computer use and drugs. I will not deny the role drugs, specifically marijuana and LSD, have in computers, but to claim cyberspace requires much talk about drugs because it is a similar experience (seeing pretty images and designs in front of your face, even if they're not "there" in real life) is a bit of a stretch. Because the author spends his time discussing drugs, hippies, alternative lifestyles and other tangentially-related dreck, he fails to honestly explore hacker culture or even those who are advancing the concepts of cyberspace as something other than a consensual hallucination. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone except a researcher, as with the exception of a few pop quotes from famous computer and drug users, it's contentless and a moderately tedious read.
indexed historiographed and forgotten.......2003-06-08
In 1994, Doug Rushkoff set out to write an embedded, analytic travelogue linking a series of countercultural trends dealing with emerging networks and internet technologies. Instead of conducting technopunditry from the sidelines, Rushkoff got into the fray and followed around ravers, hackers, performance artists and writers whose philosophies emerged around a new surge of technoutopianism; linked inextricably with paganism, spirituality, and Eastern Philosphy. His aproach echoes the Tom Wolfe school subjective reporting, learning the lexicon of the object of study, trying to speak the language and reveal something about its psychology. What results is some snappy, breakneck prose colored philosophically and poetically by chaos mathematics and cyberpunk literature. This makes this book eminently fun, readable, and exciting. It also makes much of its proposed social and political uses for technology widely inaccurate. In a way, ten years removed, Cyberia should be appreciated now more than ever. We know better. And all of the wide-eyed fantasizing about decentralized spirituality and some wonderful fin de siecle millenial rapture spurned on by virtual reality are no longer dangerous or deluding, they can be seen in context, as thought waves that are spilled out of more optimistic time periods with exponential technological growth. The connect the dots game that Rushkoff plays is pretty astute, as well: the hippy connection, the second wave optimism that the 90s proposed to reconcile the "defeat" of the 60s, the fulmination of rave culture around these ideas that arrived in Berkely. A good book to read this book against would be Escape Velocity by Mark Dery, which is a little more "down to Earth", covers some similar material, and contains a counterpoint to Cyberia. Rushkoff himself has distanced himself widely from the rhetoric used in this book, but even this does not discredit this as a seminal text when looking at the viewpoints of subcultures built around technology.
an enjoyable read.......2002-10-22
Rushkoff takes the reader on an elegant tour de force of the vast realm called "cyberia." With an uncanny ability to infuse humor and insights into his subject matter, he never lets the reader down.
The pulse of his books is reminiscent of the feeling you get at clubs when things are happening at a fast clip and a heated beat. The intelligence and forward-thinking Rushkoff offer make him unique and well worth the read.
Bravo!
TechnoShamanism, Morphogenetics, occasional mistake.......2001-01-04
I found this book truly intriguing. The bits about the rave culture were a little off, and in the cases of his ecstasy coverage, very far off, but in general, it hits very close to the mark. I and many others that I associate with touch on the Technoshamanic view of the world. Rushkoff does an exceedingly good job demonstrating the relationships between psychadelics and innovation in areas like silicon valley and chaos theory mathematics. Read for yourself, judge for yourself.
This is a good book........2000-04-24
I read lots of these books. I have read most of Neal Stephenson's, Bruce Sterling's, and William Gibson's novels. This is a good book if you have interests in this area. The people who gave bad reviews are just not smart enough to understand the book's content, if they even finished reading it.

Product Description
This is a book about sales effectiveness that has been tested in the crucible of real life experience.
Lone Wolf to Lead Wolf speaks to sales representatives in all industries whether they are field sales, inside sales, or counter sales representatives. It even speaks about lessons that managers need to know in this new century.
Each chapter is a story, and some of them have case studies and other activities to help the reader translate the story to their own situation. The world of sales continues to change and the strategies that created success in the past are failing to maximize success in today's environment. This book tells a simple, but powerful, story of managing change. There are those who are genetically programmed to play the game to win, rather than simply playing not to lose. Every reader needs to think critically so they can play their own game. Those that are firmly on the path of playing to win will recognize many of the lessons that are examined in this book.
Creating meaningful change always starts with taking responsibility for your own situation. This book was written for who are driven to success, who may be frustrated, but who are open and willing to learn. You have taken personal responsibility for your own career development and you look at sales as a profession rather than just a job.
Some of the stories deal with sophisticated approaches to supply chain management, including consignment and national account programs. These issues may be above the typical pay grade of most sales reps. They are included because success in sales is more than personal effort, skill and talent. It is fundamentally about building and managing customer relationship equity and utilizing all the resources available to create success. The Lead Wolf strategies described in this book will often require that the sales rep challenge their own management to be innovative, provide necessary resources and help develop creative solutions that drive profitability for the customer.
Learning and personal growth are the only alternatives to the slow death of intellect. This book was written to help those on the path of growth to rise to the next level.

Book Description
If, as many cultural critics have asserted, the world is becoming more like the Caribbean, then the task of charting what we mean by "the Caribbean" is an urgent one. This careful study of the British Virgin Islands (BVI) calls attention to the ways in which ideas about nature and choice have come to justify a social order in which half the population is deemed not to belong and is denied legal rights.
The BVI, one of Britain's few remaining colonial possessions, has become an important destination point for Caribbean migrants and a center for international financial services. Bill Maurer traces how the BVI came to be defined, legally and popularly, as a territorial entity, and how BVIslanders came to define themselves as a "people" sharing a "culture." He argues that law has been central to the construction of ethnic, racial, and cultural differences that create boundaries between peoples and places and that facilitate the exploitation of labor, the exclusion of people from the political process, and the globalization of capital.
Recharting the Caribbean will be important reading for anthropologist, legal scholars, and historians of colonial discourse.
Bill Maurer is Assistant Professor of Anthropology, University of California at Irvine.
Book Description
Wildlife Woodlot Management is a comprehensive guide for hunters and landowners who want to develop, manage, and maintain their land for maximum enjoyment. Readers learn how to choose the type of land that will match the game they want to attract, whether it is waterfowl, upland, small game, or big game. Addressing one of the hottest topics today, author Monte Burch delves into planning food plots, preparing the soil, and what tools and equipment will work best. Monte offers advice on how to manage woodlots, reintroduce a forest, fell and girdle trees, establish grasslands, and manage water. Based on his own land management practices, Burch teaches a variety of techniques, with easy-to-follow instructions and solid advice.

Private Lands Management for Wildlife.......2004-08-11
This is one of the best popular books dealing with wildlife management since the late Geogre Burger's book Practical Wildlife Management was published. It is very up-to-date and accurate. The only problem I have, and this is not a fault but a personal issue, is that it promotes specific brand name commercial products pretty heavily. All else aside it is a great book for anyone intested in managing private lands for wildlife.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent, succinct.......2007-07-26
This little book is a great read. It makes a series of important points very succinctly (essentially one point on every double page spread) about how to capture the elusive `drama' in a photograph. The example photographs are very, very well chosen to illustrate the points. The explanations are well-written and clear. I made copious notes while reading the book and I refer to these notes before I go out on a shoot.
Will improve your creativity.......2006-07-07
This book is great for developing creativity in nature photography. The author isolates and illustrates different concepts of a photograph, such as perspective, color, light, etc. When focusing on these concepts while composing a shot, one can learn how to make the pictures dramatic like those of the pros. Zuckerman really makes the complicated concept of a "dramatic" photograph simple by breaking up the concepts to look for in a shot. great picrues too!
very cool book.......2002-05-16
As with most of Jim Zuckerman's books, this one was incredibly informative. The 12 chapters cover the areas in photography that are the most helpful in getting the best shots of nature and the outdoors.
From perspective to motion to exposure to self-critique, Jim's knowledge of photography is second to none. I know of no one out there shooting who understands the mechanics of this medium more than him. And it shows in his photography, which is simply amazing.
This is a must buy for any one serious about seeing and capturing nature better in their photographs.
Excellent Teaching Guide.......2002-05-10
I purchased this book and I have used many of the artistic techniques and ideas to improve my nature photography. I would advise any one who is serious in nature photography to use the ideas Jim outlined in this book. I can't see how anyone who actually studies this book to not be satisfied with the content. I also have looked at a lot of this authors work and I think he is one of the best nature photographers in the business. His work is outstanding.
An Exercise in Frustration.......2001-10-02
In his introduction to "Capturing Dramaý" Jim Zuckerman says that "translating nature's drama to film requires a three step processý.locate the subjectý.previsualize an artful interpretationý.the technical aspects come into play." If Zuckerman had organized his book by his three-step procedure this might have been an interesting and useful book with a new slant on nature photography.
Instead, he picked twelve concepts around which to organize his work, such as form, perspective and exposure. Under each of these headings he shows several of his pictures with a brief statement. The pictures and the statement often do not relate to his chosen concept. They rarely relate to his three-step process. Often he omits really significant information that should be covered. For example, in his chapter on perspective he does not point out that using different focal length lenses, with different angles of vision, while keeping the image the same size, will change the amount of background included in a shot.
Sometimes he is just plain wrong. In several places he suggests that if he had used a different focal length lens for a subject, changed his distance but kept the exposure and image size the same, he would have gotten a different depth of field. It's an optical fact that if the image size and exposure are the same with different focal length lenses, the depth of field around the image will still be the same.
I also can't walk away from the publication itself. The book was printed on a semi-coated stock rather than the usual coated stock of photography books. The color gamut of such paper is less than coated stock and many vibrant colors appear slightly toned down. Too bad. Some of Zuckerman's photos are good.
In summery this book is a collection of random tips rather than an organized approach to the subject. And I was frustrated.

Book Description
During the last decade, there has been a shift in the governance and management of fisheries to a broader approach that recognizes the participation of fishers, local stewardship, and shared decision-making. Through this process, fishers are empowered to become active members of the management
team, balancing rights and responsibilities, and working in partnership with the government. This approach is called co-management. It provides ideas, methods, techniques, activities, checklists, examples, questions and indicators for the planning and implementing of a process of community-based
co-management. It focuses on small-scale fisheries (freshwater, floodplain, estuarine, or marine) in developing countries, but is also relevant to small-scale fisheries in developed countries and to the management of other coastal resources (such as coral reefs, mangroves, sea grass, and
wetlands).

A must have for anyone who cares about animals!.......2006-06-23
Ms. Lopez has really done something special as she combines a love of animals with practical advice on how humans and animals can co-exist. She passes on to her readers the benefits of her amazing experience as a volunteer at a Texas wildlife refuge. Her special connection with this subject matter enables her readers to discover new and exciting ways to enjoy wildlife while still preventing thos unwanted problems that sometimes result when we get "too close" to nature. Thanks Andrea!
When Raccoons Fall Through Your Ceiling - A. Lopez.......2003-03-25
Andrea Dawn Lopez's book explains in easy-to-understand text why human/animal conflicts or situations occur, and what to do to remedy them. Anyone who's ever had an animal visitor in their home will find this book useful. As the title suggests, Andrea explains how to coexist with wildlife in a non-lethal manner. The author's affection for wildlife is evident in her warm, tender writing.
Good information.......2003-03-20
I Loved this book it's finaly nice to have writen material on how to deal and live with our wildlife. I live in the country and some people just dont understand that the animals were here first and it is our job to learn animal safty and respect and also safe ways to deal with the animals. Andrea covers all this in her book and I would like to prsonally Thank her.
Sincerly,
Julie Hanenberg
For the Love of Animals.......2003-01-01
How true this writing is. The animals are being forced out of their natural habitat to make room for humans.
I have no doubt that Andrea's experiences go well beyond what she has written about, even as a child. She has made it clear that co-existing is possible without much effort on our part.
BE PREPARED! Where have we all seen those words written before?
Although "common sense" is not all that "common", I think this book makes clear to all of us what we can do to make our lives and the lives of the animals a much safer place.
