WebLogic Server Unleashed is designed to be the definitive reference work for the WLS developer, offering an in-depth look at the capabilities provided by WLS 7.X and illustrating the best development practices.
Customer Reviews:
Good content - covers a lot of detail.......2004-03-11
This book really covers a lot of detail. It is really good and amongst the most accurate books that I have read technically.
The style however does not flow very well (probably because it has several authors) - but if you can get past that, it has tons of good content.
random work.......2004-02-23
first unleashed book i bought - and probably the last. i tend to prefer a-press, o'reilly or manning for you who read books and know quality from quantity. the unleashed book is almost a random collection of j2ee chapters with very little relation to weblogic of any version. shure those chapters do have some value in and by them self but i got the book to get up to speed on weblogic version 8.1. i know j2ee already so about 7o% was wasted on me. yes, there are some config weblogic sections and how to install(not great) but a from a-z on how to get going with the appserver it just does not deliver. maybe too many persons involved. it's usually a warning sign with all the names of contributors. but then again. I did look at other books on the subject and they all seemed to be alike. wait until o'reilly sets the benchmark...again
Excellent book - Must have for any 8.1 project.......2004-01-25
I have been on 3 projects now using WebLogic 8.1 and have been struggling to find out the changes. This book is great. It tells me everything I need to know.
I recommend this book more for a reference book rather then a tutorial or guide on learning WebLogic chapter by chapter.
Recommended Reading.......2003-12-29
This book covers it all !! The book seems geared towards developers
who already have a working knowledge of J2EE, including those migrating
from other Application Servers. I don't normally like books compiled from
many different authors, but this one seems to pull it off with the many authors
enriching the content with their different perspectives.
I like the screen shots, and I find the different and varied examples very helpful.
This is not a J2EE 'Design Pattern' book, but it definitely contains valuable in depth
and applied technical content covering many different aspects of J2EE development with
BEA WebLogic. The authors do an excellent job of passing on the lessons they
have learned and their experience is represented in the advice they give.
It would have been nice to have more consistent scenarios to 'glue' the different
chapters together, but in its current form it is easier to pick specific chapters
that apply to a specific problem domain without needing to read the entire book.
I would happily recommend the book to other BEA developers, and if only I could
find the equivalent for IBM WebSphere I would be a very happy J2EE camper :-)
Not for developers needing examples..........2003-12-15
1444 pages of bits and pieces of how to create and deploy on Web Logic 8.1. Absolutley no cohesive transition of how to create and deploy even a simple J2EE application. The book will explain piece parts very well such as the XML descriptors and each J2EE API. But if you want to try out web logic and create an application quick and easy, this book is definately not for the beginner....

International Political Economy: State-Market Relations in a Changing Global Order.......2007-03-19
Gives a comprehensive analysis and critique of various approaches to IPE what makes the book most interesting however, is the different authors' contributions.

Book Description
Marine Mammals: Fisheries, Tourism and Management Issues brings together contributions from 68 leading scientists from 12 countries to provide a comprehensive, up-to-date review on the way we manage our interactions with whales, dolphins, seals and dugongs. The book examines how we have fared conserving the world's marine mammal populations, with a focus on the key issues of fisheries and tourism.
From a unique southern hemisphere perspective, the authors consider how science informs the culling debate, how wild fisheries and aquaculture interact with marine mammal populations and how we might manage the effects of whale, dolphin and seal watching industries. The authors also address other issues such as the way in which ethics, genetics, acoustics, ecosystem models and pollution influence the management and conservation of marine mammals.
Marine Mammals is an invaluable and accessible resource for all those involved with marine mammals, including scientists, managers, policy makers, industry representatives and students.

Handbook on Ingredients for Aquaculture Feeds
ASIN: 044489585X |
Book Description
The demand for high quality aquacultured products and an increasing concern for resource conservation has led individuals and large corporations to invest time and money in commercial scale recirculating production systems. However, there are relatively few reports of profitable recirculating production systems in operation. There is little doubt that most fish reared in ponds, floating net pens, or raceways can be produced in commercial scale recirculating systems.
The objective of this book is to provide basic information and analytical skills for the reader so that they may make the proper design or investment decisions concerning water reuse and recycle systems. The chapters of this book are sequenced to provide continuity to a basic approach that would be used in designing a water reuse or recycle system. The chapter authors contributing to this book have written extensively in the literature already on the particular subject being addressed in their chapter.
Considerable background information on the basic processes being presented is also given in each chapter to supplement the basic design information being provided. These chapters should provide the reader with essentially all the information required in order to design and manage a water reuse system.
The book is written for engineers and biologists working in the area of intensive fish culture. The text should also prove useful as a design manual for practising aquaculturists and as a resource of current "state-of-the-art" methodologies associated with water reuse systems.

Book Description
The only hope of supplying the world's ever-increasing demand for aquatic food products is through aquaculture, and the vast majority of this is conducted in ponds. Although pond aquaculture may appear at first to be an archaic method of growing aquatic animals, it is one that is consistently profitable when the pond is managed properly. The most important aspect of pond management is the maintenance of adequate environmental conditions for good growth and health of the animal under culture. Water quality in ponds also extends into the areas of environmental protection and food quality and safety, which are increasingly important in today's world.
This book provides the most complete, up-to-date account of water quality and its management in aquaculture ponds. It provides background information on the physical, chemical, and biological environment of pond aquaculture, and illustrates how the proper balance of these factors is the essential ingredient for successful production of fish and other aquatic animals. Management techniques for the control of water quality and productivity include liming, fertilization, mechanical aeration, water exchange, and the use of algicides and herbicides. The authors examine the effects of pollution on aquaculture and the validity of current criticisms by environmentalists.
This book will be of great benefit to students, extension agents, policy-makers, government officials and the commercial aquaculture industry.

Book Description
Researchers and managers of regulated river systems will find this volume useful in acquiring information for deciding an integrated management plan for regulated river operations. Rather than the ecological theory of impacts of flow regulation, emphasis has been placed on methods to predict water quality and habitat alterations, as well as techniques to mitigate impacts from various operational scenarios. Although most chapters refer to impacts of riverine impoundments, these alternatives apply to any regulated situation in which changes in water quality or flow pattern occur. The predictive modeling techniques are explained primarily from a theoretical background. However, extensive bibliographies can guide the uninitiated to specific texts and software. Where controversial techniques have been presented, alternate methods are also described. Major topic areas include water quality problems, channel modification and management, ecological modeling and management, as well as a section on perspectives for ecological management and special problems in developing nations.
