This book is exactly what it claims to be. 10 tunes and 21 CD track (includin tuning notes). The book is a fake book with all ten tunes, with no text. The book is in three parts, first a fake book with all tunes for C-instruments, then for Bb instruments and then for Eb instruments. No lyrics.

On the CD each tune is recorded twice. The first recording (split track/melody) is with a solo instrument and typically runs like this: First with a solo-instrument playing the tune once, then one repetition of the backing without the solo instrument, so you may solo, and then the solo instrument returns for the last repetition of the melody (no improvising). It is possible to remove bass or piano by turning down volume on one of the channels, but I have had no need for it, and my stereo does not allow it. The second recording (full stereo track) is the same backing, but with no solo-instrument.

I found this a perfect companion to learning these tunes.

My main complain is: while the tempo is fine when I have learned the tune and am familiar with the chords and arpeggios, it is too fast in the inital stage until I become familiar with the tune. I solved this problem by ripping the CD and using software to reduce the tempo without altering the pitch and use a 20% slower version in the beginning. I would have preferred the first track to be slower, but those who want to use that track for practicing comping may have other preferences. The first track is also intended as a "learning tool for melody style and inflection". I'd prefer a version closer to the written melody and later use my favorite recodings for ideas about style and inflection, but that is also a matter of taste.

I use these books a lot and love them (I own vol 27 too). Excellent value for the money, highly recommended.

sadly this is not a subject that goes out of date. pitcher's analysis is clearly rooted in the time and place of his own working experience, so it helps if you've lived through those times too. the writing is crisp and entertaining, and you don't get the feeling he takes himself too seriously. i enjoyed reading this from someone who has been responsible for spin, as well as having been trying to decode it as a reporter.

After ERP, CRM, SCM etc. on the more operational levels now comprehensive approaches for integrated strategic management and operations emerge. This became popular years ago with the Balanced Scorecard. This book shows that there is much more around this topic. It gives a compact overview about the theoretical backgrounds. But, what is more important it links theory with a lot of practical examples in form of figures and real world screenshots. I think it is a very good introduction and easy to read.
It is the only book so far that I could find that gives more detailed information about SAP SEM than SAP's web pages and it adresses some critical issues of the software and concepts, too.
Nevertheless the chapter with the case studies could be enhanced in a next edition.

I read Bookie's review and thought that it was a decent review, but I noticed that the review was very generic and could apply to just about any SAP application with Interview questions. I then clicked on all of Bookie's reviews and noticed that he has posted this exact same review for this entire series of Interview Questions. This means that Bookie is a schill for this author and probably works with the publisher. I am always suspect when any SAP related book receives a perfect 5 stars, because as you all know, there really is not a single book on the subject of the SAP R/3 system that even comes close to perfection due to the complex convoluted nature of SAP applications. In all cases there is no single right way to do anything in SAP and every implementation is a whole new ballgame.

Interview Books.......2006-07-27

First, and frankly the most important thing to understand about interview questions books is that they help you save time. These books help you understand what deserves your attention and further reading, and what does not. These books help you understand what you need to learn, and what you can safely ignore. As an SAP consultant you can spend several hours each week, if not every day, learning about SAP. It is a major part of being an SAP person (especially a good one), and anything that you can do to reduce the amount of time you spend simply learning is very valuable to you. When you're spending time reading and not billing at a client, it can cost you about $100 each hour. That's expensive reading time! And so why would you even think twice about the cost of a $50 book if you think it will help you learn something valuable that you can apply at your job.

Second, the SAP market is evolving. It is evolving in ways that demand SAP people understand more about the product we are working with - It's not uncommon to see requests for an "MM and SD" functional consultant these days. Also, in my consulting practice, I am focusing on SRM - but each day I am called upon to talk about MM, PP, PS, and other areas in SAP. I think that clients are less and less willing to hear, "Well that's a FICO issue - or that's an MM issue."

Finally, I use these books myself. Each time I'm asked a question that stumps me, and this happens all of the time (despite what my clients may think), I turn to my own books as a reference. A couple of weeks ago someone asked me a question about a work order in PM. As an SRM consultant, I had little exposure to work orders. So I grabbed my PM Interview Questions book, looked up work orders in the index, and the EXACT question someone asked me was answered in the PM book. So the SAP Interview Questions, Answers, and Explanations series of books help save SAP people time because they show you what is important to learn, and I believe they help greatly in cross training - and so that's what these books are all about. They will save you time, and give you more knowledge about the SAP product. And the only group of people that don't want that to happen are consultants who want to keep their skills a secret!
