"The Have Gun Will Travel Companion ... Martin Grams Jr. & Les Rayburn ... OTR Publishing (2000)".......2007-08-20
OTR Publishing presents - "THE HAVE GUN WILL TRAVEL COMPANION" --- In 2000, a trade paperback book entitled The Have Gun-Will Travel Companion was published, documenting the history of the radio and television series --- The 500-page book was authored by Martin Grams, Jr. and Les Rayburn --- From 1957 to 1964, HAVE GUN WILL TRAVEL aired over the CBS Radio and Television Network with huge ratings --- Considered by many as one of the best television westerns ever broadcast next to "GUNSMOKE" --- "HAVE GUN" dramatized the exploits of a man name Paladin, whose gun was for hire - for a steep price --- Paladin was also a man of culture, West Point educated (he served as an Union officer in the Civil War), literate, with a taste for fine food and clothing and the theater --- He dressed like a dandy and made his headquarters in the ritzy Hotel Carlton in San Francisco --- His calling card featured a picture of a paladin (the white knight in chess) and the inscription from which the show drew its title: "Have Gun, Will Travel...Wire San Francisco." --- The theme song, co-written by star Richard Boone, even became a hit single.
On the surface, dapper, black-clad PALADIN was just a high-priced gun-for-hire, but in reality he was actually a sort of troubleshooter and private lawman-for-hire (a private eye, if you will), often sent out into the wilds to places where there was little, if any, law --- Have Gun was created by Sam Rolfe and Herb Meadow and produced by Frank Pierson, Don Ingalls, Robert Sparks, and Julian Claman. There were 225 episodes --- Perhaps the only genre more popular than private eyes in television's early years was the western, so it's probably not all that surprising that someone soon came up with the idea of combining the two --- Have Gun-Will Travel ranked in the top five almost immediately and after that trailed only "Gunsmoke" (1955-1975/James Arness) and "Wagon Train" (1957-1965) for the rest of its run.
THIS BOOK INCLUDES:
1. A complete episode guide for all 225 television broadcasts with titles, air dates, writer credits, cast lists (who played who), music credits, director credits, production credits and plot descriptions!
2. The same treatment is given for the radio program of the same name with additional material such as the dates and times when each episode was recorded as well as broadcast!
3. A lengthy history documenting the formation of the television and radio program, with memories from the cast, production crew, directors and much more!
4. All of the HAVE GUN novels and collectibles based on the western program are documented and pictured in a fascinating chapter.

For fans and collectors alike, authors Martin Grams, Jr. and Les Rayburn with a Foreword by Peter Boone --- "In the books there's a name for a man like you. A Paladin. That's a gentleman knight in shiny armor, and all armed with a cause and righteousness and a fine pointed lance and yet a mercenary --- A man who hires out for gold. What was your price, my noble Paladin?" --- You've read the Richard Boone biography, now read the book about Have Gun - Will Travel! Over 150 actors, writers, directors, production crew have been exclusively interviewed for this project! --- Did you know that Paladin once graced the cover of Time magazine? --- Did you know that John Dehner, radio's Paladin, was previously an animator for Walt Disney studios, and drew scenes for Bambi and Fantasia? --- Do you know all the details about the 30 years plus court case regarding the Rhode Island mechanic who claimed he created the Paladin character---and took CBS to court? --- you know the not-so-happy story why Sam Rolfe, co-creator of HGWT, left the series during the middle of the third season? --- You can learn all these and many more when you purchase your copy of The Have Gun- Will Travel Companion, from Amazon --- This book also includes--All 106 radio broadcasts, including official script titles, plots, complete cast lists (who played who), rehearsal and recording dates and times, writers, directors, etc. --- All 225 television episodes, which includes the same information stated above --- A chapter documenting (with photos) each and every HGWT collectable! --- All summer reruns and mid season preemption's are documented as well! --- At the present time, there has not yet been a publication that has listed every episode with correct titles and air dates --- Many have not even listed all 225 broadcasts! --- The authors have gone to great lengths to finally straighten out all of those errors --- This book will finally offer the definitive broadcast dates, titles and production information --- Includes exclusive interviews --- a "knight without armour in a savage land." Boone, as Paladin, brought a sense of dignity and weight to the role.
"Have Gun Will Travel Theme Song"
"Ballad of Paladin" by Johnny Western, Richard Boone, and Sam Rolfe
Performed by Johnny Western
Have Gun Will Travel reads the card of a man.
A knight without armor in a savage land.
His fast gun for hire head's the calling wind.
A soldier of fotune is the man called Paladin.
Paladin, Paladin Where do you roam?
Paladin, Paladin, Far, far from home.
He travels on to wherever he must;
A chess knight of silver is his badge of trust.
There are campfire legends that the plainsmen spin
Of the man with the gun,
of the man called Pa-l-l-l-l-a-din
Special footnote about the author Martin Grams, Jr. (b. April 19, 1977, Baltimore, Maryland) is an old time radio historian who has written authoritative articles and books on radio, television and films. The son of magician Martin Grams, Sr. and librarian Mary Pat Grams, he was educated at South Eastern School District in York County, Pennsylvania and graduated from Kennard Dale High School in Fawn Grove, Pennsylvania in 1995 --- He worked a variety of jobs from factory labor to banking before settling on a writing career --- Since 1998 Grams has documented broadcasting in the 20th century. "Suspense: Twenty Years of Thrills and Chills" (Morris, 1998) was followed by "The History of the Cavalcade of America" (Morris, 1999) about the Dupont-sponsored radio and television program of the same name --- After "The CBS Radio Mystery Theater", co-authored with Gordon Payton for McFarland Publishers, Grams followed with "Radio Drama" (McFarland), "The Have Gun-Will Travel Companion", co-authored Les Rayburn, and "The Alfred Hitchcock Presents Companion" (OTR Publishing, 2000), a 660-page survey of "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" with a complete episode guide --- many of which are found on the Amazon sites for purchase.
I found myself being transported back in time, as this companion has opened my eyes to see the subject more clearly --- makes you wonder if maybe Randolph Scott who was originally slated for the role could have done just as well --- it can be said without a doubt that Richard Boone not only made Paladin, he was PALADIN --- One of Paladin's quotes: "I don't think you got a very good look at this gun while you had it. The balance is perfect. This trigger responds to a pressure of one ounce. If you look carefully in the barrel you'll see the lines of the rifling. It's a rarity in a hand weapon. This gun was handcrafted to my specifications and I rarely draw it unless I mean to use it. Would you care for a demonstration?" --- Don't miss this one --- now appearing on Amazon and OTR Publishing --- Don't hesitate --- rush out and pick up your copy today --- Great reading in the days and weeks to come --- I guarantee it! --- all my heroes have been cowboys!

Thank you
The critic was right........2006-07-31
When I first read the reviewer who listed detail after detail that was wrong with the book, I thought he's just picayune. OH NO!!!! This is the sloppiest published work I have ever seen. Some typos (and there are typically 3 or more per page)are so bad you can't even guess at the meaning of the sentence.
The writers obviously know and love their subject--it's just too bad no one edited or proofread their work. Ironically, they tout their superior research as uncovering various inaccuracies--to what end, when it's published in this garbled format?
He's right about the photos, too. Why are they so indistinct and faint?
Finally, there is no rhyme or reason to the order in which the material is presented. While each bit might be interesting, chronological order or grouping by topic certainly would have lent more impact and avoided repetition. (It actually looked like sections were merely cut and pasted several times).

The Have Gun -- Will Travel Companion.......2006-03-09
For those interested in the behind the scene issues
involving the production of the Have Gun Will Travel
TV Series (1957-1963) this book is a good resource.
The authors have conducted interviews with many
important individuals who were connected to this
classic western. It starts out with a biography
of Richard Boone (Paladin) that traces his life from
his birth in Los Angeles with sections on the TV shows
Medic, The Richard Boone Show, Hec Ramsey as well as Have
Gun with information on his feature films and theatrical
performances. It also has an extensive plot summary
section on each Have Gun episode, a section on the short
lived Have Gun Radio program and other material of interest.
The weaknesses of the book are these. There are numerous
spelling mistakes, wrong word choices, dangling/unfinished
sentences and other typographical errors. The numerous
photos are poorly scanned and/or lack proper halftones. A
good editor/proof reader was needed on this book. For
this reader these are irritating though not enough to
disquality the book entirely.
More important was the lack of critical evaluation of the content of the program itself. If you are looking for a book that provides an in depth analysis into the personality of the Paladin character you will need to look elsewhere. Richard Boone and the writers and producers of Have Gun Will Travel created a wonderfully complex hero in this "Knight without Armor in a Savage Land." (Plot summaries are not character analysis). This book only scratches the surface of that complexity.
If you saw this program as a child as I did and have fond memories of it this book is valuable to read in
conjunction with viewing the Video/DVD Have Gun Will Travel collections.

No one more epitomized the world of gangsta rap than Suge Knight, the often brutal CEO of Death Row Records. Author Ronin Ro shows courage in detailing the frightening means used by Knight to corner the market on the most hard-core of urban music. It's a tale that reads like it was written by the bastard offspring of Horatio Alger and Quentin Tarantino. Knight's forceful style and legal entanglements have been the stuff of legend for years. Most music reporters, coming face to face with the thugs who enforced the rules at Death Row, have been afraid to tell the story. With Knight safely behind bars and Death Row in disrepair, Ronin Ro finally has the chance to put this violent soap opera in print.
Book Description
Death Row Records is one of the most successful music labels of all time. From its inception in 1992, it exploded on the rap music scene with sales climbing to the $125 million mark in just four years. Even more noticeable than the label's financial success is the effect it had on American youth culture, making gangsta rap more popular with suburban white youth and MTV viewers than traditional rock groups. But under the guidance of six-foot-four-inch, 300-pound CEO Marion "Suge" Knight, Death Row also became the most controversial record label in history--a place where violence, gang feuds, threats, intimidation, and brushes with death were business as usual.
Have Gun Will Travel details the spectacular rise and violent fall of a music label that had at its heart a ferocious criminal enterprise cloaked behind corporate facades that gave it a guise of legitimacy. With inside access no other writer can claim, Ronin Ro, the country's preeminent rap journalist, exposes the facts everyone else is afraid to divulge--from the initial bankrolling of Death Row by a leader of L.A.'s notorious Bloods gang, to links with New York's Genovese crime family. Have Gun Will Travel lays bare the full story behind this influential label, including the still-unsolved murders of Tupac Shakur and the Notorious B.I.G., as well as Suge Knight's rise to power, his fight with East Coast rap titans such as Sean "Puffy" Combs, and his eventual imprisonment.
Although it has been all over the news--from The Wall Street Journal to Rolling Stone--this is a timeless story about an empire built on greed, corruption, murder, and exploitation. With exclusive interviews and bloodcurdling eyewitness accounts, Have Gun Will Travel combines the behind-the-scenes fascination of books like Hit Men and Hit and Run with the violence and dramatic sweep of The Godfather, in a brilliant and blistering document of contemporary culture.
From the Hardcover edition.
Customer Reviews:
Violently Entertaining and Informative.......2006-07-27
Before I start this review, I'd like to defend Ronin Ro for his writing. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the way this book was written: the author carefully weaved in each character who was essential in the Death Row scandal. I saw no editorial mistakes and it was organized sufficiently. If a reader does not like the experiences in the book, that's one thing; but to insult the writer is ridiculous, especially since this was such an interesting and well-researched book.
On to the book:
I'm not quite sure how the topic of Suge Knight came up between a friend and I, but we were both shaking our heads about the man being shot in the leg. With all the rumored hits out on him, we were thinking "How could the shooter have such bad aim?" She told me about this book and I am so glad she did. I knew Suge Knight was an alleged dangerous man, and from an interview I saw of him challenging a journalist on a Tupac documentary, it was pretty obvious that he liked to intimidate people. But I was not expecting it to be this dramatic.
Death Row had everything from gun fights, gangs, rape, holding people out of balconies, locked doors to hear desperate screams, drugs, disgruntled rappers, terrified employees, scared delivery people, Crips, Bloods, women being beaten, boyfriend/girlfriend relationships, boyfriend/boyfriend relationships, East Coast artists being forced into West Coast artists, "thugs" turning into grown men, grown men trying to figure out how to connect to the streets but be peaceful, business conflict, etc. Anything that could possibly go wrong in a business happened at Death Row. I didn't grow up in the safest neighborhood, so about half of this didn't even make me flinch, but when the story got into beating up women; jailhouse rapes; balcony scenes, etc., I was like "Okay, enough is enough."
Although it is commendable that Suge Knight gave back to his community with food and money to the homeless/lower income, it does not justify all of the things he DID do. Honestly, I'm extremely surprised he's alive today, and definitely understand why he rolled with such a thick crew. Had he not, he'd have been dead long ago.
While I was reading this book, I couldn't stop giggling thinking about the "Gangstalicious" episode of the "Boondocks." So much of what I thought was a mocking of 50 Cent seemed more like it related to Tupac, and the guy chasing Gangstalicous reminded me of Suge. Although there were definitely humorous scenes throughout the story (from my own morbid mind) and it was definitely an entertaining read, it was extremely disturbing to see so many grown men acting like teenagers. When is it time to decide to stand on your own two, fight your own battles ALONE, stop killing your own race, and bullying people every time you don't get your way? It's one thing to want to be a grown man; it's another to be a grown bully. I ponder over whether many of these people actually enjoy the lifestyle; or is it just a matter of survival in the ghettoes? I know so many young men who were BEATEN into gangs, and then forced to participate to show their loyalty. But how can you show loyalty to a group that you NEVER wanted to be a part of? Why would someone be so happy to get out of jail, if they were just going to return to the jail lifestyle regardless of the bars?
If anything, this book definitely relates to the streets and brings up excellent questions. It also brings more information to cases that were only browsed over (i.e. how Tupac became a part of Death Row, the REAL relationship between Tupac and Dr. Dre, the murder trial for Snoop Doggy Dogg, Puffy's relationship with Suge Knight, Biggie's murder, Biggie's relationship with Tupac, the incidents of Tupac's being shot, robbed, and killed, etc.) Ro touches on SO many topics that the news glossed over or magazines didn't pay enough attention to.
I was very impressed with this book and think he did a great job for research--and is one brave guy for putting all this information out there. Be safe, Ro!
The Best Book For Any True Rap Fan!!!!!.......2005-12-05
This book gives you an inside look at one of the most powerfull companies in history. Its not just contracts and courtrooms, its murder, shooting and violence. It keeps your interest from start to finish. You see what a true gangsta Suge Knight was, doing anything to get what he wanted. It covers Dr. Dre, Suge Knight, N.W.A., the DOC, Tupac, Snoop Dogg, and many more. Ronin Ro puts direct quotes and doesnt altar or change anything, its raw, real, true. The language is definatly for 16+ but its great regarless. Go behind the scenes of the biggest indusry in music, and go inside the East Vs. West Coast Rap Battle. Once it arrives you will never put it down.
"Have Gun Will Travel" Review.......2005-09-14
Ronin Ro's "Have Gun Will Travel" is probably one of the most entertaining books ever written on the subject of Suge Knight's Death Row Records. However, a good deal of the information in this book should be taken with a grain of salt. Ro paints Knight as a thuggish bully who used violent tactics to extort his way into the music industry and helped create a feared "gang presence" behind the scenes at Death Row. It explores his partnership with Dr. Dre, a talented music producer who Knight pulled from rival Ruthless Records only to knock out of the picture when he was able to acquire an even-larger artist, Tupac Shakur. It goes into detail about the reported beatings of Dre production assistant, Sam Sneed and the infamous boat party where Warren G and his crew were assaulted. Ro tends to have a personal vendetta with some rappers, most noteably Tupac Shakur and DJ Quik. Shakur is written as a loud-mouthed, arrogant gangsta rapper who was falsely praised as a "revolutionary" because of his mother's fabricated past as a member of the Black Panthers. Quik is also written about in a less flattering way as Ro takes a biased look at his feud with MC Eiht, accussing him of hiding behind gang tactics and using violent threats while Eiht attempted to reconcile the problem. It fails to mention that Quik's diss record was a lyrical retaliation to a series of diss tracks called "Def Wish" where Eiht verbally punked Quik or that following the death of Biggie, Quik began recording positive anti-gang records including "You'z A Gangsta" where he made a call to end his problems with Eiht. Still, the star of the show, Suge Knight, takes the brunt of the beating in an editorial assault that makes Michael Moore's portrait of George W. Bush in "Farenheit 9/11" look kind in comparison. When he's not being accussed of assaulting record executives, promoting violence within the recording industry, or setting up rappers to be murdered, Knight's sexuality is also questioned as Ro explores a "supposed" homosexual relationship between Suge and his label's R&B crooner, Danny Boy, who is also his adopted son. If you were even a slight fan of West Coast rap music in the 90's, "Have Gun Will Travel" is one hell of an entertaining read, though most of its information is more "National Enquirer" than LA Times.
Major disappointment.......2003-06-07
What should have been a fascinating book, at the very least as a voyeuristic experience, fails to deliver largely due to its poorly written pages. The text stumbles along from incomprehensible link to allusive derailment, making the mistake of huge chunks of repetitive material which inevitably detract from the fascinating subject matter. Perhaps more of an editng disaster than an author's failure.....at the heart of which lies a story deserving a more coherent telling.
A Poor Attempt at Journalism.......2002-08-20
What should have been a tremendous book about the astonishing rise and fall of Death Row, ended up being nothing more than heresay and curse words. How on earth anyone could like Mr. Ro's writing style is totally beyond me - maybe it works in magazines - but clearly not in a 300 page book. He jumps from topic to topic, he introduces WAY too many characters with barely any flow at all and most of his info is either taken from sources who refuse to be identified or from other prewritten accounts. He repeats himself in at least 15% of the book. I had really high expectations on this book - and it fell flat on it's face. Out of the 50 or so business books I've read over the years - this one rates dead last. If you've followed Death Row over the years - you've already read at least half of this book.........

Colourful, Well-Written Auto-Biography.......2004-08-30
After buying this book in a cooky crime book store in Melbourne, I found myself unable to do anything but read it for the following few days. 'Karel' tells an amzaing, simply-written tale about his time in Surinam during the mid-80's where he lead an army destined to break the back of the country's dictatorial government. If you like a good, factual action story that is engaging and fast moving, then I highly recommend this. The only downfall is that it wasn't long enough!

It is the worst, cheapest and shoddily made book ever.......2001-11-06
I hated it. It was so stupid and cheap. As if you could not find any of these websites just by searching through Google or Yahoo. I hate it when people just try to market off stuff you can easily find
Not Worth It.......2000-08-05
This is the most useless Sailor Moon book ever. All of the information can be found by using a search engine on your computer. It is not worth the money, especially since internet sites are always changing and no book can possibly list them all accurately. If you want to find websites, search with Geocities, Yahoo, or another major search engine.
Not Worth It!.......2000-08-01
The sites listed in this book could be found almost anywhere else, like on a search engine. The sites listed weren't extra spectacular, either. In the name of the Moon, this author should be punished!
Total Disappointment.......2000-04-15
I was very disappointed in this book. It's nothing more than a photocopied listing of websites that you could probably get through a search engine. If you really need a hard-copy of web listings, buy this book. If you don't, save the money and buy some of the manga or videos. They're more worth your money than this is.
This book is worth the paper it's printed on, and that's it........1999-10-02
I can't believe Mr Rosen can get away with publishing and selling stuff that has been leeched and ripped from the Internet. The point of this book is to direct people to Sailor Moon material on the Internet...yet if they're on the Internet already, they can always get the latest stuff for free. Although the book says it's "Updated After Every 100 Copies Sold", that does you no good. You're already out $. That should also indicate how fast this stuff becomes out of date...especially with little Geocities sites popping up and down all the time. It might have been worth it if the book had an attractive cover and some nice illustrations throughout, but that's not the case. Don't waste your money on this cheese. There are better, more attractive, free resources online.

A recapitulation of his earlier work Seeds of Contemplation, this collection of sixteen essays plumbs aspects of human spirituality. to re-read until the soil is good.......2007-07-05
Every adjective title used to describe this book in the reviews so far i have found to be true.
"The truth i must love in my brother is God Himself, living in Him."
excerpt from this book (Thomas Merton "No Man is an Island"
Reading just that line is enough to contemplate for some while.
I found i had to read small sectionsm and re read to gain fuller meaning
because some concepts are difficult to grapple with, but grapple with them.
I will re read this book many times over throughout my life. It strikes richly at the core of Catholic teaching, its value universal for everyone.
Its a celebration of God and his creatures, it affirms the truth of His love as His gift living in us, for us also to share, for it is not ours to keep selfishly.
Inspired and Inspiring.......2006-07-02
"No Man is an Island" is a spiritually moving set of essays--or meditations, rather--that address many issues but ultimately center on our relationship with God, with each other, and with ourselves. Having read only a little of Merton, I found this book somewhat more straightforward and prosaic compared to a later work of his, "The New Man", and he gets a tad dogmatic in spots (well, he is ordained, so he has a license to do so, fair enough)--I was reminded of some of the more trenchant passages in "The Seven Storey Mountain" before he'd mellowed out a bit. And yet Merton's characteristic mix of simplicity and profundity, his fine-tuned mystic's sense of paradox, and his ability to take Catholic teachings and breathe new life into them are all here in full; indeed, in many ways this book would serve very well as a Catholic Monastic statement of what life's all about, spoken in Merton's gentle conversational tones at once calm and serious, critical of the shallow aspects of modernity while articulated in a manner that speaks eloquently to modern people. I have no doubt that this book should appeal to readers who profess Christianity as their religion, but I also think that many non-Christians (such as myself) will find much here that is inspiring and spiritually enlightening.
Merton writes from a powerful place that touches the heart deeply.......2006-06-13
This book by Thomas Merton is a marvelous exploration of what it is to be human and the fundamental problems of disconnection from the depths of Being. More practically, it addresses the solution to our isolation in a direct, loving and compassionate way. Thomas Merton is clearly one who has traveled the path to his deepest self and has much to share about his journey.
Thomas Merton is a mystic who has spent a lot of time in silence and deep contemplation. He had a grasp of contemporary issues facing the modern person and he has a way of using language that is simple, but touches the heart.
Although Merton was a Catholic Christian mystic, his message is universal. He illuminates the mystic's path and shares the fruit of his explorations through writing in a way that is accessible and powerful. Somehow, between the lines it is obvious that his experience has been profound and he translates this into terms that help the reader to find meaning.
This book will be especially appealing to Catholics and Christians. The tone is understanding and gentle, although it is packaged in a way that is most digestible to fellow Catholics. On the other hand, there are so many gems that are applicable to the human condition that it will be a valuable read by people of any faith.
Thomas Merton wrote a lot of books and this is one of his best for lay people. New Seeds of Contemplation is also very thought provoking and could be considered a companion volume. It also goes a bit deeper into some of the more existential and metaphysical aspects of living, but not in an esoteric way.
If you have an interest in Christian Mysticism in general, I also highly recommend Practical Mysticism by Evelyn Underhill. This is a great short introduction to Western Mysticism delivered in a very poetical style and that is geared to the average person looking for meaning in their lives.
Nice to read in segments. Good for prayer........2006-06-09
While this is certainly not one of my favorite Thomas Merton works, I do find that its format and style facilitate a prayerful experience.
With its individual sections of thought, this book is great to read in parts. I found it wonderfully useful in sections read before community prayer in the chapel. It might be good for someone looking for spiritual reading but who does not have a lot of time to spare.
Affirming Human Potential.......2006-05-21
In the time when nationalism and self-interests are becoming the "family values" of this century, Merton offers a sharp criticism of believing that communal responsibility is no longer a value for Christianity (or humanity for that matter). Insisting that all persons are connected through a spiritual reality (later colored in Christian theology of the Holy Spirit), a concern of the "other" should be a dominant concern for the Christian. Though some are concerned they might not be praying enough, studying Bible, etc, Merton affirms that the second part of this equation is devotion to humanity and its welfare.
Unlike prior Christian theologians that place dominant concerns to man's latent ability to overcome original sin, overt obsessions with sexual sin, and need for a return to those "horse and buggy" realities, Merton offers a differing view of Christian principles that empower the individual towards co-creating with G-d while affirming humanities potential for good.

Graduate Student Review.......2000-03-30
This book is great. It compares theecologicallybalancedlifestyles of the native ethnic groups living onRoti and Savuwith the swidden agricultural lifestyles of neighboring Timor. The island of Timor has become an ecological disaster with erosion, over-cultivation, and primitive farming techniques leading to increased mal-nutrition. Yet on at least two neighboring islands the environment is virtually pristine and there is a surplus of starch production. At a time when the world is looking for environmentally sound answers to increased famine, Fox discovers that perhaps we should be relying less on technology and more on tradition. For anyone interested in unique cultures, ecological anthropology, or the world hunger problem this is a must-read!

Book Description
Nick Nairn, a self-taught chef who claims that at one time he "was not able to boil an egg," proves that sumptuous food can be created by anyone who has access to a kitchen. His beautifully illustrated recipes for dishes, from Seared Scallop Phyllo Tartlets to Warm Butter Cake with Plums Poached in Kir, use a wide range of fresh produce prepared in simple ways for maximum flavor. Nairn also gives both beginning and experienced cooks tips on the best kitchen equipment and suggestions for stocking the cupboard with the freshest ingredients.
Customer Reviews:
Inspiring book, inspiring chef.......2000-11-28
For those who have not witnessed the nairn cooking style on TV, do what you can to see him action. The "island harvest" series showed how simple many of his dishes are, all utilising the freshest local ingredients. None of the generic "here's one I prepared earlier" TV chef cliches. His approach is simple, and nick really stresses how by using the freshest ingredients, the best dishes are (usually) the most basic. How many TV chefs can cook up the fresh caught highland trout on a gas camping stove, on the edge of the loch in which the trout swam minutes before? Nick is an inspirational chef. Watch the series, buy the book, see a real chef in action

How to Do Everything with Ebay Business.......2006-07-10
This book provides a good presentation on the intrigacies of
Ebay selling. The author describes the importance of getting
user feedback because this is a function of how well we do.
It's necessary to get the buyer's attention with catchy selling
presentations/descriptions. Generally, no reserve auctions make
better sales. The Turbo lister is recommended for multiple sales.
Publishing a picture can be critical because many buyers want to
see what they're purchasing. Lastly, a good description is crucial to sale. Provide all relevant details. i.e.
- guarantee
- ease of utilization
- general condition
- minor repairs , if needed
- manufacture date
- model number etc.
The more detail provided- the better it is for the potential
buyer. Very often, buyers are looking for a very specific
make, model and condition of the item for sale. If you provide
this information on a timely basis, it is more probable that a
sale will be consumated. In addition, pricing is important.
Price an item so that it sells quickly. If the price is set
too high, there may be little or no interest. Sometimes, it pays
to sell around a holiday. With the pressure of holiday shopping,
consumers just may pay more money for the convenience of getting
the item early without long waiting lines or extensive travel
from store to store looking for available stock at an affordable
price.

Anyone with the least bit of PC knowledge and customer service skills can sell on any on-line venue. Most have it set up to walk you through step by step. Besides, eBay raised their fees so high as of 2/18/05 that many sellers are flocking to other venues like www.overstock.com/auctions!
Good As Any.......2004-09-09
I'm not an expert of eBay by any means. In fact, the last time I listed some software on eBay I had to have my sister-in-law handle the listing duties. I just an not that brave when it comes to actually making money online. Sure I can handle the technical stuff like hosting my images on my web site and making up templates for my eBay listings, but selling on eBay involves much more then merely technical details. It is a business and that means you must learn how to think like a business person and know what your options are while doing business on eBay. That is where this book shines. And that is why a book like this is so good for us timid sellers. It is perfect book for those of us who need a lot of hand-holding when they start doing business online.
How To Do Everything With Your eBay Business covers everything there is about selling stuff on eBay. From the essential business practices such as setting goals for your eBay business and deciding what to sell to learning about how to be more effective in actually selling your items by writing up enticing descriptions and how to use necessary services and software, to the little talked about selling options available to the serious eBay business person like Half.com, eBay Moters, and Sothbys. And don't forget the accounting help you need to do to keep the IRS happy.
In my humble opinion, there is no better source for learning about doing business on eBay no one any more readable as How To Do Everything With Your eBay Business.
