Wrong Book being reviewed.......2007-02-20

Everyones review is reffering to a Beatle guitar book, not the piano book that I am seeing. I don't know how this happens, but this is the second piano book at Amazon that was linked to guitar seach inside and wrong reviews. I'm just glad I paid attention or I would have gotten the piano book based on a guitar review.

Beatles -1 guitar music.......2005-08-17

I found the music and guitar cords to be right on, except for "Yellow Submarine". It just didn't seem to be insink with the album. I was also hoping for it to have TABS, as I find it very easy to learn the solos and the intros with TAB. Otherwise, I'm having fun playing along with the songs.

The previous reviews shown here have nothing to do with this book. They appear to be for "The Beatles Paperback Songbook", which does look to be small and not necessarily accurate.

"The Beatles 1 - Recorded Version Guitar" appears to be exactly what it says: transriptions of the recorded versions. My guitar teacher has spent a couple of sessions breaking down "Day Tripper" off of the CD for me. What this professional musician came up with for this song is almost verbatim what is published in this book. So now I have it written out in a form that I can actually read (and correct as needed). It is a full-size (8.5x11) music book and I look forward to working my way through it.

a great little book.......2003-03-23

For someone who wants to jam through some Beatles songs this book is great. Its got the chords, melody, and lyrics, which is all you need for a left-to-the-imagination solo acoustic rendition by your average silent rock star. The ONLY problem with it is that it is pocket paperback sized, which is fine if you're reading it, but if you are playing a guitar you'll need to get one of your groupies to hold it open for you.

For the money this is a really nice book of Beatles songs. The arrangements are good and accurate. I don't know about whether they are in the 'right key' or not. It is easy enough to transpose for the somewhat experienced player. I use a capo for some of them just to adjust for my vocal range (female-mezzo-soprano). I really like the simple, yet beautiful arrangement for "Rain". The lyrics are a teeny bit off. It is 'when the rain comes' not, 'if the rain comes', etc. This is not for a beginner. There are somewhat difficult bar chords and not all the chords in the arrangements are referenced in the back. Any comprehensive chord book will fix this. Or some figuring out. I have been playing for a year (compulsively) and I have a music background. I wasn't able to use most of the songs in this book when I first got it last year. The biggest beef I have with this book is the size and the fact you need to weight the pages down. But what do you want for the price? I am planning on scanning the pages and enlarging them. I'm now going to look for some others in the series. Keep practicing!

Great for what it is........2006-02-21

These are very heavily researched biographys on each member of the Beatles. I haven't read them all as of right now but if are looking for incredible detail then this is what you want. The things mentioned are insane.. If you were looking to find out who was in the room when McCartney wrote Yesterday.. or what songs John Lennon was listening to when he was on the road.. you'll most likely find it in here. Although, I do find this all information to saturate the works. It is great to read every now and then... I can't imagine sitting down and reading all of them one by one.

I've been a fan of the Beatles for a little over a year now, and I must say, I've never known this much on each individual before. These books are great to start on, seeing that you can read in any order, and the detail and research is excellent.

Great metaphors are used, and its intriguing to actually get to read those instead of just know about it. If that made any sense . . .

Anyway, this is a very great buy.

An Excellent Paperback Writer!.......2004-07-27

The Beatle Box Set is a must have for all Beatles' fans and anybody with an interest in the Beatles. Clayson does intense, in-depth reporting on each Beatle and offers many interesting facts and fresh information. He provides footnotes for his sources and his work is indeed scholarly and impressive.

I like the way he focusses on each Beatle individually and how each Beatle's life circumstances helped create the unique, distinct and very individual style that each one had. One gets a "sense" of each Beatle; Clayson does an admirable job of covering cultural/musical as well as other influences each Beatle said impacted on his life and music.

About as good as this type book gets.......2007-03-27

I love James Garner and watch an old Maverick episode every chance that I get. I've viewed 10-12 of them at the Museum of Radio & TV in New York & Beverly Hills.

The book was a good reminiscence of the various Maverick shows over the years. A "3" rating is about as high a rating as you can give show books of this genre.

A comprehensive look at the episodes of Maverick TV show........1998-10-25

This book is an excellent collection of descriptions of the episodes of the many incarnations of the Maverick TV show. It features each episode's "Pappyisms" in an easy to find format, and even lists unaired and unfilmed episodes of the later shows.

Though there are quite a few rememberances and inside details on the production of the original series, I would have liked to read more.

Overall, an excellent, and entertaining read, pardner.

Diving into 3ds max 4 Magic is like immersing yourself in a pool of experience. Written by a montage of professional 3ds max users, 13 chapters cover everything from flowing water to asteroid impacts to using inverse kinematics for complex machinery, and more.

Spanning five sections, the tutorials are grouped according to effect. "Special Effects" includes two chapters illustrating particle systems. For example, "Impact" describes a technique for creating explosive surface impacts (an asteroid collision), while "Flowing Water" demonstrates how to create water pouring from a faucet.

"Lighting" is the next section, also with two chapters, followed by "Modeling and Animation" (four chapters, including one on setting up Max 4's Inverse Kinematics), "Materials," and "Expanding Max," which includes chapters on nonphotorealistic rendering (think sketchbook illustrations), camera matching, and setting up a scene and animating objects using displacement effects and MAXScript.

In addition to the tutorials in the book, the enclosed CD-ROM contains five more projects (two of which build on chapters in the book) that explore and teach things like facial expressions, lip-synch, and modeling and mapping a photorealistic head. The CD-ROM also includes the files needed for each of the book and CD-ROM projects, and a collection of shareware and commercial plug-ins for creating things like forests of plants and trees, hair, and more.

There are some fine tutorials here. Project 8, "Mechanical Machine," is a great example of solid writing mixed with an exciting project, and deftly explains a number of new key features in Max 4. Some good tutorials, some really bad. Just like the first book its not written by designers but more by those techie guys who do beta testing :) But I got something out of it anyway.

An excellent guide to advance your skills........2002-02-21

If you are an intermediate level Max user, 3ds max 4 Magic, is a great resource. With concise and to the point directions, full color illustrations and tutorials that cover a wide range of Max's capabilities, this book can guide you to the next level. This book is not for a beginner. The authors assume that the reader is familiar with all of the tool sets available, at least to the extent of knowing where to look. Although the time that I have invested in this book's tutorials has been technically demanding the wow factor has made it well worthwhile.

a great how-to book for certain features.......2002-01-14

This book concentrates on about 10 different features of 3ds Max and does a step-by-step explanation of them. The value in this approach was that it guides you through an unknown area of max very methodically. On the down side, the extra verbiage might be unappealing for someone that's more fluent with the program. As a student using the program for the first time, it allowed me to very quickly expand my capabilities. This should be a companion to another more comprehensive book. Includes final movies of the projects covered so you can compair your work.

13 fun projects to take the experienced user further.......2001-12-14

3ds max 4 magic is full-colour, glossy and packed with 13 projects covering a variety of common tasks, individually written by professional 3D artists. There are detailed chapters on for example simulating flowing water (without expensive plugins), creating realistic underwater scenes, using the new max 4 IK, churning out textures for games, and even a bit of camera matching. And as usual, they are detailed enough to be usefull but advanced enough not to be patronising and time-wasting for the experienced reader, for whom the book is intended.

The small critisism I may have centers around the lighting effects in certain chapters. They seem somewhat basic, explaining much to very little effect. In general though, the tutorials do expand on many of max 4's new features - and the accompanying CD features bonus materials and projects from those authors that got a little carried away. Good stuff!

Unsatisfied.......2001-10-17

I recently purchased this box and have been extremely disappointed. The projects are extremely interesting and detailed, if you can complete them. Out of the 6 projects I have tried, I have not been able to complete any of the them. Problems range from not getting the correct colors and textures to appear after following the steps listed to "intuitive" steps that are not listed that I evidently don't know. There is "help" available from the book's authors, if you can get a response, and they don't always know what is wrong. Overall, I have not found this to be a helpful book.
