Brilliant!.......2007-03-21
I love the compact size of this book and the songs are perfect. With the vocals and the guitar chords, you can party like an Irishman for days!
Book Description
There's nothing quite like hearing Irish music in Ireland. Not on big concert halls or grand arenas, but in the small pubs in remote areas where the locals habitually gravitate for those informal sessions that invariably develop into a serious social occasion universally known as the craic. For those who play it, it's not a style of music, but a way of life, producing its own culture and characters. After 25 years visiting Ireland both as a music writer and a tourist, Colin Irwin goes in search of the craic. He talks to some of the leading Irish musicians like Christy Moore, Donal Lunny, Paddy Moloney, Martin Hayes, Andy Irvine, Cara Dillon, Paul Brady and Frankie Gavin about their experiences and they direct him to places where the craic is mightiest. This is the story of his journey into Ireland's musical soul and the extraordinary characters he meets along the way.

Vicarious pleasure.......2005-05-13
Like most pub "sessions" in Ireland, this book doesn't offer a flawless performance, but it is still good craic. And, like a good session, it leaves you wanting more.
People unfamiliar with the Irish traditional music scene, however, might find the book's references too obscure to be of interest, since reading about music you haven't heard must be like listening to someone describe what a slow pour pint of Guinness tastes like, when you've never had the pleasure of drinking one yourself.
But anyone who has traveled Ireland and checked out a pub or two in search of traditional Irish music will enjoy the vicarious pleasure of following along with Colin Irwin on his quest. His interviews along the way with some of the leading figures in Irish music are one of the best parts of the book. Hearing Liam Clancy talk about his conversation with Shane MacGowan, bad boy of The Pogues, was priceless. Also funny was Irwin's own discomfort at being face to face with Clancy -- after a jouralistic career in which he had often mocked the trailblazing Clancy Brothers for their Aran-sweater-Oirish act that today seems over-the-top. Just as rewarding was seeing how unbothered Clancy was by the criticism.

Great Book.......2007-04-11
A beautifully written book examining mental illness from a wide range of psychodynamic thoeries. It is a book I know I'll refer back to for years to come. The writers present the complexities of mental illness in a detailed and accessable manner. If you work in the mental health field as a psychiatrist, psychologist, counselor, or social worker this book is a must for your library.
A Truly Superlative Work.......2006-10-27
After a concise introduction, the authors describe in detail Drive Theory, Structural Theory, Ego Psychology, Psychosocial Ego Development, Object Relations Theory, The Theory of Self Psychology, and the Interpersonal School. This provides a solid foundation for the rest of the book, which moves to a chapter on Race and Culture, then Women. After this, a variety of psychopathologies are described in detail, with great attention to how ethnicity, culture, and gender play a role in the therapeutic process. The book contains a variety of clinical vignettes, is written intelligently, but without too much jargon, and is laid out concisely and clearly. I'm incredibly excited about this book, and know that I will be referring to it for a long time.
Good introduction to biopsychosocial assessment.......1998-10-22
The authors all teach at the Smith College School for Social Work, and this book developed from their lectures on biopsychosocial theories of development. Their students report that of all the books purchased during their graduate career, this is the one they refer back to most often. Well-chosen cases illuminate the theories, and issues of culture and gender are nicely integrated.
Book Description
Researchers have revealed that real expertise, while applied to well-defined tasks with highly circumscribed contexts, often stretches beyond its routine boundaries. For example, a medical doctor may be called upon to diagnose a rare disease or perform emergency surgery outside his or her area of specialization because other experts are not available. Moreover, in some cases, the context for expertise is in a constant state of flux, such that no one case is identical. Expertise Out of Context is a culmination of some of the most insightful studies conducted by researchers in the fields of cognitive systems engineering and naturalistic decision making in the effort to better understand expertise and its development.
Born out of the Sixth International Conference on Naturalistic Decision Making, a conference that gathers researchers who study cognition, perception, and reasoning outside of the traditional laboratory, this book is organized in five parts, the first of which provides an overview of the topic and presents varied perspectives. Consequent sections cover how to make sense of things, tools for thinking out of context, how to cope with uncertainty in a changing workplace, and teams operating out of context.
As researchers in naturalistic decision making have investigated such areas as the knowledge and decision-making skills of expert firefighters, critical care nurses, military commanders, and aircraft pilots, this volume is of importance to an expansive audience, including individuals in business, government, industry, and society at large.

Book Description
This timely study examines the emotional and behavioral reactions to mergers and acquisitions. Astrachan's central focus is on separation anxiety-the cognitive and emotional state caused by cues of impending departures. He used a simulation of a merger situation to examine the effects of anxiety about employee departures on individuals and work groups in an existing company. Specific questions addressed include: Is separation anxiety stimulated by the anticipated termination of work group members? Does the number of people who are leaving a group affect anxiety? How do the experiences of those who are leaving differ from those who are staying? Astrachan begins with two chapters that explore the relationship between mergers, acquisitions, and separation anxiety at the individual and group levels and look at the specific patterns of behaviors and emotions that result from separation anxiety. He then describes the design of the mergers and ecquisitions simulation that served as the study's primary method. The fourth and fifth chapters describe, quantitatively and in the participants' own words, the results of the simulation exercise and the study's findings. Exploring work group members' behaviors and emotions during the simulation, Astrachan addresses such issues as the similarities among groups within the company and the effects of mergers on various employee groups. Finally, the author addresses the implications of his research for a greater understanding of separation anxiety in everyday life. In an era of recurrent corporate mergers and acquisitions, their effects on the employees who are let go, on those who stay, and on the organization are important issues for human resources executives, organizational consultants, and stress management specialists. Astrachan's study marks an important beginning to the examination of these critical issues.

Book Description
In Jorge Luis Borges's finely wrought, fantastic stories, so filigreed with strange allusions, critics have consistently found little to relate to the external world, to history--in short, to reality. Out of Context corrects this shortsighted view and reveals the very real basis of the Argentine master's purported "irreality." By providing the historical context for some of the writer's best-loved and least understood works, this study also gives us a new sense of Borges's place within the context of contemporary literature.
Through a detailed examination of seven stories, Daniel Balderston shows how Borges's historical and political references, so often misread as part of a literary game, actually open up a much more complex reality than the one made explicit to the reader. Working in tension with the fantastic aspects of Borges' work, these precise references to realities outside the text illuminate relations between literature and history as well as the author's particular understanding of both. In Borges's perspective as it is revealed here, history emerges as an "other" only partially recoverable in narrative form. From what can be recovered, Balderston is able to clarify Borges's position on historical episodes and trends such as colonialism, the Peronist movement, "Western culture," militarism, and the Spanish invasion of the Americas.
Informed by a wide reading of history, a sympathetic use of critical theory, and a deep understanding of Borges's work, this iconoclastic study provides a radical new approach to one of the most celebrated and—until now—hermetic authors of our time.

Book Description
Theory in Context and Out furthers discourse and understanding about the complex phenomenon we know as play. Play, as a human and animal activity, can be understood in terms of cultural, social, evolutionary, psychological, and philosophical perspectives. This effort necessarily includes inquiry from a range of disciplines, including history, sociology, psychology, education, biology, anthropology, and leisure studies. This volume presents twenty-two chapters from those disciplines. This volume includes sections covering Foundations and Theory of Play, Gender and Children's Play, Theory of Mind, Adult-Child Play, and Classroom Play. Scholarly analyses and reports of research from diverse disciplines amplify our understanding of play in Western and non-Western societies.
Book Description
Stunningly illustrated with a vast collection of photographs, including previously unseen pictures from archives and private collections, this book is a must-have - not only for die-hard Doctor Who fans, but for those who have been thrilled by the new series and anyone who has a fondness for the show. As well as providing a unique overview of the series, it includes features on the make-up, special effects, and merchandise that have all contributed to the Doctor Who legend. Ranging from our first glimpse of the TARDIS in a junkyard on a cold November evening in 1963 to the current Doctor, Christopher Eccleston, Doctor Who: The Legend Continues is a comprehensive, stylish, and evocative guide to five decades of tea-time time travel.
Customer Reviews:
Great Book.......2007-02-23
I love this book. It has some really good information in it about all the doctors up until the 9th one and their companions. I think it is one of the best and coolest books available to all Doctor Who fans.
One for me.......2007-01-16
I went searching for Dr. Who books for my nine-year-old fanatic and came up with this one for me. All the doctors, all the companions, all the episodes. A neat resource though I wouldn't have minded still more background info.
A little of evrything.......2006-08-20
I like it because it because it is a book because it has a liitle of everything in it on the doctors and their time travels.
Doctor Who: The Legend Continues (Dr. Who).......2006-08-02
If anyone is an avid Dr. Who fan from the Dr. Who #1 to #10, or a recent fan of the Dr. Who Series, they will want to purchase this book. The information in it is invaluable, that is why I gave this book (5 STARS).

Doctor Who: The Legend Continues.......2006-03-22
I'd actually seen the earlier hardcover version of this book when a friend bought it, and I'd wanted to get a copy for myself. Unfortunately, I never did scrape up the money, and I'd thought my chance was gone. Then this revised version (expanded to include the entire Eccleston run and a preview of Tennant's upcoming series) came out, and I was more than happy to pick up a copy.
For those who have not seen the book, it is furnished with an abundance of photos, and it eschews the standard `episode guide' format by focusing on bits of information (both on screen and behind the scenes) rather than providing episode synopses. While I found that to be a selling point (after all, most of the audience for this book already knows what happened in the stories), I know that some people found that to be a bit annoying.
Overall, the book functions as a nice visual reference (I'm an artist by nature, so that's the first thing I thought of) and as a good coffee table `conversation piece', and it does contain a bit or two of information that I'd not seen elsewhere. If you're looking for a comprehensive Doctor Who guide, though, I'd recommend Mad Norwegian's `About Time' series rather than `Doctor Who: The Legend Continues.'
Customer Reviews:
pretty good.......2004-01-02
This is the first book of this nature i bought, and can honestly say its awesome. It tells you everything you will need to make a novelty license including, different printers, paper, computer software, templates, etc and where to get these items, it goes ionto great detail and walks you step-by-step through the whole process.
A very misleading book.......2002-03-05
This book has nothing to do with other ID. This book is ALL about making fake driver's license.
Granted this book goes into nice detail on how to design and make them but it fails to let you in on some details. New York and Florida have PLASTIC driver's license. With a Florida license it looks like a credit card with a black data strip in the back. The police officers, when they pull you over, will swipe your card through their machines and pull up all of your information. The idea was to save on time when pulling someone over to write up a ticket. With New York licenses, the cards of made of a flexible plastic with the picture digitized on them. Getting your hands on either of these materials would be highly difficult. All it would take is one astute person from that state or someone who regularly sees multiple state IDs to catch on that its not a real ID.
you gotta be kidding.......2002-01-05
Sure, make an outdated license.. get busted and go
to jail. Try drinking at a place that doesn't
ask for ID. Duh?
It's a book about making PERFECT driver's licenses. PERIOD!.......2001-02-12
The previous reviewer is half-right . . . . the book does not even come close to focussing on making "Other IDs". It's all about making fake driver's licenses--PERFECT fake driver's licenses. That's why I bought it and that's why I'm VERY happy with the purchase. If you want to make a fake driver's license, this is the book for you.
The Best Fake ID Book On The Market!.......2001-02-12
This book is excellent. I have read every book on manufacturing false identification out there. No other book guides you through the process of manufacturing fake ID as completely as this one does. From finding the proper supplies, to tips on how to use the ID so you won't get busted, it is all in here. I especially liked the chapter on evaluating your finished ID. If you are even thinking about trying to make a fake ID, BUY THIS BOOK!
