Customer Reviews:
A great book to have for Music Theater fans!.......2007-06-25
Hi!
I got this book from Amazon.com a few weeks ago and it is great.
It includes songs from classic Broadway shows -familiar shows and others not very known- and more recent plays, such as Spamalot, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Wicked and Urinetown.
The print format is very spacey and the songs are quite accurate. Occasionally I've found little differences between the recorded tracks I own and whats written in the book, but I'm talking about one-two notes top.
The book includes and introduction clearing a lot of things, which is worth reading, and an appendix about all the shows included with usefull information (authors, directors, number of performances, premiere dates, as well as a context paragraph with the show's story line, so you can know what the songs included are about).
I love this book. And I will keep on buying this series.
Two things I want to clear that were a bit confusing for me when I bought it:
1. This book is just the sheet music. It does not include any CD or audio tape.
2. The list of songs is the one mentioned in the first reviews listed. I know there's a review for another book with the same song list, but those are the songs for this book. (This was hughely confusing for me when I first bought this).
Just in case, I'm re-copying the list of the song included in this volume (Singer's Musical Theater Anthology, Volume 4, Mezzo-Soprano/belter, Blue Cover), so no one else gets confused.
AIDA: The past is another land
I know the truth

Excellent choices for the Mezzo-soprano.......2007-06-16
Excellent collection for "mezzos" from the world of musical theater entertainment.
The only negative is that it needs updating so soon - there were 35 new musicals on Broadway alone in the last 15 months.
Singer's Musical Theatre Anthology- Volume 4: Mezzo-Sop........2007-04-05
This series is one of the most useful ever, because of the scope of the selections and the pracicality of them.

Musical Theatre Audition Help.......2007-08-26
This book is an excellent source for finding and selecting songs for musical theatre auditions. With the help of the CDs, which are included, an individual is able to practice the songs on their own.
Question Actually-.......2007-05-07
Does anyone with this book know if it includes "It's a Perfect Relationship" from Bells are Ringing?
A quick reply would be GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks!
what I was looking for.......2007-02-22
I got it fast and it was in great condition. Exactly what I needed.
Fun for the serious singer - buy the CD too.......2006-11-14
I'm a vocal student and find this book a fun diversion from the Italian and art pieces I also sing. I'm a true contralto (I vocalize a high A, but my richest range is mid G to mid G) so music can be challenging to find. This book has several pieces that, untouched, are low enough to do my voice justice -- As Long as He Needs Me, Hold On, Someone Else's Story. I suggest you also buy the CDs (there are two in the package) that go with this book (purchase separately). I had the book for a couple of years before I purchased the CDs. The CDs helped me discover several great songs I wasn't familiar with. More significantly though, the CDs contain a computer program that will allow you to adjust pitch higher or lower. The CDs makes the book more versitile and easier for rehearsal.
One other note. All the books labeled mezzo in this series are also labeled belter. I can belt with the best of them and songs like What I Did for Love, Look at Me I'm Sandra Dee and Adelaide's Lament are true belting songs. But I think the majority of the pieces are better performed with varying tempos and dynamics (including, in fact, What I Did for Love). There are quite a few ballads in this book that are definitely not belting pieces. So don't be scared away by the belting label because you'll find plenty to sing here if you're not a belter. Enjoy singing!
excellent collection!.......2006-02-26
This collection is excellent - definitely supplements the first volume. A must-have for any vocal teacher with students interested in musical theater!
Product Description
39 songs, including: Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend Don't Cry For Me Argentina I Ain't Down Yet Losing My Mind Memory Send in the Clowns and many more.

revision is misleading.......2005-09-30
It is a great book but I ordered it for a certain song that was in the first edition. That song had been removed from this edition. That was disappointing
There's so much stuff in here!.......2001-05-17
This book has so many great songs. It has an even amount of fun songs ("I Can Cook Too" from On The Town), love songs ("I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Miz), funny songs ("I Hate Men" from Kiss Me, Kate), well known songs ("On My Own" from Les Miz), love songs ("Music That Makes Me Dance" from Funny Girl), high songs ("Feelings" from The Apple Tree), low songs ("Small World" from Gypsy) inspirational songs ("Hold On" from Secret Garden) classics ("I Get a Kick Out Of You," "Johnny One Note," "I Wish I Were In Love Again") new stuff ("I'd be Surprisingly Good For You" from Evita) and songs I've yet to learn ("My Husband Makes Movies"). There are so many songs in this book! It's absolutely worth getting. And you don't have to worry about it being in your range!
Eclectic, Comprehensive & Entertaining.......2001-04-02
The Singer's Musical Theatre Anthologies have long been respected as a line of well-chosen solos, especially for higher voices. Reaching far into the depths of musical theatre history, Richard Walters assembles pieces for every possible occasion: from the well-known "Les Misérables" to the classic "Gypsy" and "Oliver!" to such new musicals as "The Mystery of Edwin Drood" and "The Secret Garden". The selections are not all designed for blasting, nor are they all love songs - Walters establishes a comfortable and interesting balance between the two extremes. Each of the volumes contains vocal/piano score in the original keys, however some editions contain condensed orchestral scores. I wholly recommend this entire series, if not for audition purposes, for just personal enjoyment!
A Gift From the Musical Theatre Gods.......1999-09-13
This series of books is absolutely wonderful. It forces singers of all ages to break away from those two or three songs or musicals they know very well and perform these other songs in THEIR key (not some odd key from a collaboration book). This also makes songs easily accessible if you don't necessarily know any Sondheim, etc. I feel everyone should own one or more volumes of this collection (in their vocal range, of course). The only thing that stinks is the larger your range, the more money you end up spending!
Awsome! Exactly what I needed!.......1998-11-01
My mom got this for me for Christmas last year and now it's the only book I use when I am auditioning for my highschool and community theatre. It's got so many great songs, and they're all in just the right range!
Book Description
Two accompaniment CDs in each package which match the books containing a collection of songs from the musical stage, categorized by voice type. The selections are presented in their authentic settings, excerpted from the original vocal scores.

Singer's Musical Theatre Anthology- Volume1: Mezzo-Soprano/Belter Accompaniment CDs.......2007-05-16
Simply one of the best resources for musical theater songs.
Great accompaniment cds.......2007-01-09
I bought this so that I could perform even without a pianist. At the same time, I can be confident that when I do practice with a pianist, the accompaniment cds are following the same music as in the book. This is one great resource for any singer.
Tenor Volume 1.......2006-08-19
This is a highly recommended accompaniment cd collection. Tenor Volume 1. There are 2 cds, the first cd contains the following songs: (1st CD) You Are Never Away, Seeing Is Believing, Come With Me, If You Could See Her, Sitting Pretty, I Am In Love, The Breeze Kissed Your Hair, A New Love Is Old, The Ballad of Billy M'caw, Fifty Million Years Ago, Being Alive, Someone Is Waiting, Make Someone Happy, When I'm Not Near the Girl I Love, You Are Beautiful, Love I Hear, All I Need Is The Girl, King Herod's Song, Stranger in Paradise....(2nd CD) The Wild Justice, The Big Black Giant, That's The Way it Happens, A Wand'ring Minstrel I, On The Street Where You Live, Kansas City, Many Moons Ago, I Could Write A Book, All Kinds of People, You're Devastating, The Only Home I Know, You've Got To Be Carefully Taught, Younger Than Springtime, Lonely House, Finishing the Hat, Johanna, Ladies in Their Sensitivities, Not While I'm Around, I Do No Know A Day, I Did Not Love You, Wish You Were Here....I hope I didn't forget anything...
These are just PIANO Accompaniment, They are wonderfully recorded and played directly from the original vocal scores, none of those tacky karaoke tracks here!! Also, when you play these on the computer they come with a program which allows tempo adjustment and transposition software which is very cool. Please note, these do not include the sheet music.

Book Description
After years of fielding questions at seminars from Photoshop users, Dave Cross realized there was a lot of common ground: there were many questions that were indeed "frequently asked." In addition, most questions seemed start with “How come I can’t…." "How do I…." or "Why won’t the (fill in the blank) tool work?" This book addresses the most common problems and questions in Photoshop by both providing answers to the most frequently asked questions, and outlining strategies that can help you avoid problems in the first place.
You’ll see:
• Where to start when things don't work: from tool settings to re-installing Photoshop
• The most common warning dialogs: why they appears, how to fix them, and how to avoid them
• The Photoshop CS2 Checklist: what to check when things go wrong, or before you start working, to help avoid problems
• Solutions to typical problems when using the Adobe Creative Suite
• How to avoid problems by creating flexible documents (adjustment layers, layer masks, groups, smart object, layer comps, and more)
• Frequently asked questions—and their answers—in all key areas of Photoshop CS2:
• general operations (palettes, workspaces, menus, etc.)
• color (CMYK, color management, spot color, choosing color, etc.)
• type
• selections
• making adjustments
• layers
• preferences and settings
• image capture (resolution, Camera Raw, file size)
• sizing (canvas size, image size, copping)
• automation (actions, batch, built-in automation commands)
• common image problems (exposure, focus, noise, color cast, etc.)
• painting (brushes, choosing color)
• output (web, PDF, video, printing)
• special effects (filters, layer styles)
• tools (that don't fit into any other category)
• How to customize Photoshop CS2 to work the way you want it to (actions, menus, workspaces, shortcuts, preferences)
• How to make your own brushes, swatches, shapes, styles, and patterns

Not just for help, a good source of inspiration.......2007-01-24
The Photoshop CS2 Help Desk Book by Dave Cross is not entirely what you might expect from the title. It certainly provides answers when Photoshop isn't behaving they way you expect it should. For instance you have a tool selected and you keep trying execute an action, but nothing is happening. This book will provide you a detailed description of how the tool functions and why it may not be working as you expected. But the coverage of this book goes beyond trouble shooting problems. It is a handy reference manual.
It is 259 pages long and is divided into 21 chapters. The opening seven chapters address the meat and potatoes of basic problem solving. They succinctly take you through the basics of Photoshop menus and tool functionality. The next ten chapters continue to function as help/reference for a myriad of different functions but I find them very interesting to consult even when I am not experiencing a problem. They are written such that you can quickly peruse the subjects and pick up little tips and tricks on how to execute an action better and/or faster than you may otherwise be used to doing so.
The last three chapters are dedicated to personalizing Photoshop and making it work for you. Chapter nineteen does a great job of explaining how to automate operations using actions and batch processing. Chapter twenty provides guidance on making your own unique brushes and patterns and then applying them in a variety of different manners. The final chapter addresses customizing Photoshop features like picture package and contact sheet.
I would recommend this book to anyone with a foundation in Photoshop. It certainly is not intended to hold your hand and walk you through the basic functions of the program, but it will help you understand why the program works the way it does, and how to best accomplish the myriad of tasks that Photoshop is capable of performing. And if you are the type to enjoy experimentation there is plenty of opportunity to do so with this book.
To me a review is most meaningful when you know a little something about the person writing the review. I have been an avid amateur photographer since the late 1970's and have been selling my work since 2004. Photography isn't my day job, but it does provide a welcome supplement. I have been shooting with a Canon Professional Digital SLR since 2003 and perform the vast majority of my post processing work in Photoshop. I began with Photoshop 7 and currently work with CS2. I am a member of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP) and make extensive use of the abundant educational materials available on the member website. I have read well over two-dozen Photoshop training guides with one overriding goal in mind; producing the best images possible.
A great resouce.......2007-01-12
This is a very useful little book packed full of easy to understand information. I keep reaching for it over and over again.
From re-installing proper settings to understanding common warning dialog boxes and how to remedy common problems.......2005-09-05
Dave Cross is a senior developer of education and curriculum: his Photoshop CS2 Help Desk Book comes from a trainer's view and from years of fielding questions at Photoshop seminars. It's this background which led to his identification of frequently asked questions - and to Photoshop CS2 Help Desk Book , which allows users to identify common problems and how to fix them, from re-installing proper settings to understanding common warning dialog boxes and how to remedy common problems.
Terrific Book- A Must Have.......2005-08-26
At this point I literally have had the opportunity to read or browse a lot of the new crop of CS2 books coming out. I agree with the other reviewers that Mr. Cross has some real gems in this book and while it is not necessairily a book you will read cover to cover, I know that I will be using it often as a great reference. Some of the tips are questions I have had for years. I also agree with another reviewer that the person who left one star for this book has it in for Mr. Cross. Check out his four reviews and you will see that in three he skewers Mr. Cross. Looks like a personal vendetta to me and I think Amazon should remove the review and I am going to point this issue out to them. Get this book!!!
Photoshop CS2 Help Desk Review.......2005-08-04
From front to back this book is the best book that I've read regarding Adobe Photoshop. It is a wealth of information that describes everything from tools to filters to modes -- it covers it all. If there is a keyboard shortcut, Dave Cross covers it. This book is an encyclopedia of information with regards to Photoshop CS2. I highly recommend this book to anyone -- I know you'll enjoy it.
