Musical Theatre Audition Help.......2007-08-26
This book is an excellent source for finding and selecting songs for musical theatre auditions. With the help of the CDs, which are included, an individual is able to practice the songs on their own.
Question Actually-.......2007-05-07
Does anyone with this book know if it includes "It's a Perfect Relationship" from Bells are Ringing?
A quick reply would be GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks!
what I was looking for.......2007-02-22
I got it fast and it was in great condition. Exactly what I needed.
Fun for the serious singer - buy the CD too.......2006-11-14
I'm a vocal student and find this book a fun diversion from the Italian and art pieces I also sing. I'm a true contralto (I vocalize a high A, but my richest range is mid G to mid G) so music can be challenging to find. This book has several pieces that, untouched, are low enough to do my voice justice -- As Long as He Needs Me, Hold On, Someone Else's Story. I suggest you also buy the CDs (there are two in the package) that go with this book (purchase separately). I had the book for a couple of years before I purchased the CDs. The CDs helped me discover several great songs I wasn't familiar with. More significantly though, the CDs contain a computer program that will allow you to adjust pitch higher or lower. The CDs makes the book more versitile and easier for rehearsal.
One other note. All the books labeled mezzo in this series are also labeled belter. I can belt with the best of them and songs like What I Did for Love, Look at Me I'm Sandra Dee and Adelaide's Lament are true belting songs. But I think the majority of the pieces are better performed with varying tempos and dynamics (including, in fact, What I Did for Love). There are quite a few ballads in this book that are definitely not belting pieces. So don't be scared away by the belting label because you'll find plenty to sing here if you're not a belter. Enjoy singing!
excellent collection!.......2006-02-26
This collection is excellent - definitely supplements the first volume. A must-have for any vocal teacher with students interested in musical theater!
Book Description
Two accompaniment CDs in each package which match the books containing a collection of songs from the musical stage, categorized by voice type. The selections are presented in their authentic settings, excerpted from the original vocal scores.

Singer's Musical Theatre Anthology- Volume1: Mezzo-Soprano/Belter Accompaniment CDs.......2007-05-16
Simply one of the best resources for musical theater songs.
Great accompaniment cds.......2007-01-09
I bought this so that I could perform even without a pianist. At the same time, I can be confident that when I do practice with a pianist, the accompaniment cds are following the same music as in the book. This is one great resource for any singer.
Tenor Volume 1.......2006-08-19
This is a highly recommended accompaniment cd collection. Tenor Volume 1. There are 2 cds, the first cd contains the following songs: (1st CD) You Are Never Away, Seeing Is Believing, Come With Me, If You Could See Her, Sitting Pretty, I Am In Love, The Breeze Kissed Your Hair, A New Love Is Old, The Ballad of Billy M'caw, Fifty Million Years Ago, Being Alive, Someone Is Waiting, Make Someone Happy, When I'm Not Near the Girl I Love, You Are Beautiful, Love I Hear, All I Need Is The Girl, King Herod's Song, Stranger in Paradise....(2nd CD) The Wild Justice, The Big Black Giant, That's The Way it Happens, A Wand'ring Minstrel I, On The Street Where You Live, Kansas City, Many Moons Ago, I Could Write A Book, All Kinds of People, You're Devastating, The Only Home I Know, You've Got To Be Carefully Taught, Younger Than Springtime, Lonely House, Finishing the Hat, Johanna, Ladies in Their Sensitivities, Not While I'm Around, I Do No Know A Day, I Did Not Love You, Wish You Were Here....I hope I didn't forget anything...
These are just PIANO Accompaniment, They are wonderfully recorded and played directly from the original vocal scores, none of those tacky karaoke tracks here!! Also, when you play these on the computer they come with a program which allows tempo adjustment and transposition software which is very cool. Please note, these do not include the sheet music.

Book Description
The humorous side of Dutch culture of the 17th century is obscured by a change that took place around 1670. Religious treatises and books of manners warning against laughter contributed to a new image, that of the humorless Calvinist Dutch. Based on a manuscript containing some 2000 jokes, the lost laughter of the Golden Age is reconstructed and analyzed. Most jokes are crude and obscene, and they throw a new light on attitudes towards sexuality, religion, and other aspects of life.

Catalog of Opening Traps!.......2006-10-15
This is a very useful book in that it gives you 1000 games won in the openings. This is really a book on opening traps. You will find games impossible to find elsewhere. I know this is a hard to get classic but my dad has a copy from many years ago and it is fun to go through the different short games. It doesn't have much analysis unlike "Winning Chess Traps for Juniors", but it does have more games than any single book I have seen. I think the tactics in the openings found in this book will really help you improve both what you know about openings and what you know about tactics in action!
Excellent but now an expensive collector's item.......2006-04-06
This is a really fine book with well-selected and commented miniatures, the study of which is both a real pleasure and a fine learning tool. I am using this book to try to learn to play without a board ("blindfold"). The games are short enough to attempt to play mentally, and since the book starts with short games and goes up in length it's just the right kind of exercise.
I highly recommend this book if you can get it at a price below $50 (I paid over $30 for a very beat-up trade paperback). This is a real classic but unfortunately seems to have become both rare and in demand, and therefore expensive.
Best Chess Book!.......2005-12-30
This is the best chess book for anybody who wishes to improve their results. Play through all the games and u will internalise lots of tactical ideas which will boost your playing strength. The book is a collection of miniature games ranging from 4 moves to 24 moves long in order of length of games (lots of fun to play through). Not only do u get to learn lots of tactical ideas effortlessly but also get to see the principles of good chess in action like rapid development, weakening the king or weak colour complexes etc. I am surprised nobody has ever thought of putting it back in print!
A Valuable Anthology of Historical Chess Games.......2002-09-28
1000 BEST SHORT GAMES OF CHESS: A Treasury of Masterpieces in Miniature (c.1955) by Irving Chernev is more than just a collection of quick chess games, it contains the games of several important historical figures such as: Leo Tolstoy; Jean Jacques Rousseau; and Napoleon Bonaparte.
It also contains the game made famous in Stanley Kubrick's '2001: A Space Odyssey', known as the POOLE vs. HAL 9000 game to Kubrick fans - it is game #322, Roesch v. Schlage in 1910 Hamburg, Germany, 0-1, on page 148 in the c1955 Chernev edition.
By using short games as played throughout chess history, the reader can follow chess before popular defences were invented, such as the defence (#167) Remusat used against Napoleon, 0-1,1802 Paris; and readers can also learn solid chess moves such as dazzling sacrifices, picturesque long range mates, and epaulette mates. The book also contains some interesting blind folded plays, correspondence chess, and a few checker games thrown in.
The 1000 SHORT GAMES OF CHESS (c.1955) by Irving Chernov is useful enough and interesting enough for modern chess players that they might want to browse through second hand book stores to add this copy to their chess libraries, or keep it close to the recliner for a learned reading at night.
Awesome.......2002-05-01
There have been so many times when my room mate and I played chess, with me ending up the loser. So, I started to go over the games in this book and I learned so much. If you like chess and want to learn to play well, I totally recommend this book. Heh, oh yeah, after 6 months of playing that guy, I finally beat him. :-p

Speed course on Premiere.......2004-09-27
Hey this book helped me out of a bind - big time. I had to get up and running on Premiere in only an hour. It walked me through the setups, etc. and got me going. This is not the end all book on the subject - but it did save my life. Sure the book could use more detail - but at the same time - this book is easy to use and very easy to understand. If you are new to the program - get it - and then later - if you are sticking with Premiere - get a more detail book.
Excellent For Beginners.......2003-11-05
I found this book the best to begin premiere with.
Even though i do not have premiere installed on my
system i can understand the instructions. It's easy
to read and colourful.
Perfect Reference.......2003-04-22
This book is the BEST reference you can have by your side while editing in Premiere. Each feature of Premiere is presented pictorially on two pages. This way you can open the book to the part you need and proceed without ever having to turn the page. It is worth it's weight in gold. Do not confuse this book with a step by step learning type of book. This book will answer your immediate question without slowing down your progress on a project you are working on. For example, you are crusing along on your daughters graduation video and you decide you'd like to use "picture in a picture"...bam, flip to the two page PIP section and you've got a perfect how to.
Great Book!.......2003-02-06
As a new user to Adobe, I was able to quickly see the power of the application through the book. The simple, step-by-step instructions with the pictures made it extremely easy to apply the methods to my video.
I strongly recommend this book for both the novice and advance user as it has a wealth of info for all.
Not for beginners and not a step by step learning book........2003-02-03
I am totally new to Premiere 6.5 and thought this 'picture' book would take me by the hand and teach me step by step. It does not do that as it is more of a collection of 2 page 'How To' articles on various aspects of the program. I'm sure it's a good reference book to look up how to do individual steps, but it doesn't sit you down and take you through a learning process. This software is probably the most complicated I've ever had, and I've used Photoshop for 7 years. Very frustrating.
