Customer Reviews:
This book is all you need to be a "Ukulele Lady"!.......2005-06-23
I bought this as soon as I got back from Hawaii because I wanted to learn the songs I'd heard from the Hawaiian groups at the lounges down Waikiki beach. While it doesn't have ALL the standards, it has most of the classics, from "Aloha Oe" to "Pearly Shells" to my personal favorites "The Hawaiian Wedding Song" and "Blue Hawaii" (both of which are in the Elvis movie of the same name). In comparison to other books in the Jumpin' Jim series, these arrangements seem slightly more straightforward and logical than those in the Movie Tunes book, and frankly, it's a more enjoyable collection of songs. Those I didn't know (which was about half the book), I found relatively simple to figure out on my own via the chord chart in the front of the book. This is a great book for intermediate ukulele strummers and also a great item for Hawaiiana fans.

If you love animals, you'll love this book!.......2005-01-30
What animal lover wouldn't like to hear true stories from Paul McCartney, Anita Roddick, and Maneka Gandhi? This is a must-read for anyone who appreciates the roles of animals in our lives. Or to quote Jane Goodall:
"...this collection of inspiring tales is so important. They are true tales about individuals who have dared to take positive action against cruelty to animals and won, individuals who have made a difference."
When you've read this book, you'll be inspired to make a difference yourself. Don't miss this opportunity!
Does have some good stories, but it's slow to start..........2003-08-18
On the whole, Speaking Out for Animals by Kim Stallwood is written in a hopeful and progressive style - certainly it's worth a read. But as I read the heartwarming stories, I definitely felt mixed emotions. On the one hand, it is good to hear happy endings. On the other hand, it is terrible to think that humans could be responsible for so much suffering and cruelty.
This book's greatest fault, in my opinion, is the first 24 pages. I found myself nearly in despair, thinking 209 more pages, what if it's all like this! Fortunately, it is not all that bad. After I got through the relatively short and somewhat dull interviews, I finally reached something good. The interview with Sergeant Sherry Schlueter was just the first of a series of ten interesting and varied stories. I especially enjoyed reading how animal rights are viewed abroad, in the interviews with Maneka Gandhi of India and Tatyana Pavlova in Russia.
To often, it seems, I hear terrible stories of animal suffering. All this bad news can become quite overwhelming. That's why I like section two of this book, all 31 of these stories are strictly happy endings. From Ginny, the dog who rescues cats to Butch and Sundance, two runaway meat pigs, this section will leave you feeling good.
Section three is titled "Unsung Heroes," and I also found it to be interesting and inspiring. Tony and Vicki Moore who fought against Spain's blood fiestas, the Buffalo Field Campaign fighting for the wild buffalo and eight-year-old Amanda Walker-Serrano, alerting others to the truth about circuses. These three stories are among 21 true tales of animal heroes. --Reviewed by Starlynn Clarke
I agree with Mr. Strumboldt.......2002-07-26
I feel that, while their intentions are good, many of the people in this book have views so extreme that they defy common sense. I found Peter Singer's views on human-animal relations disturbing and troubling to say the least. Also, while I agree that animals are treated terribly here and all over the world, these people have no scientific basis upon which to state their views. They seem to rely on the hearsay of others who share their views. While I was reading this, it seemed to me that the entire book had been written for the purposes of fund-raising. Overall, the people described in this book, all taken together, seem to have developed a very detailed philosophical approach to the cause of animal rights. It's too bad that they don't do a better job of implementing it. There were numerous factual errors I found in this book. Whoever edited it doesn't seem to have done a very thorough job of fact checking or proof reading.
'Speaking Out For Animals inspires with success stories".......2002-04-11
I think Mark S. missed the point of this book. Showing abuse cases of a wide variety with happy endings not only exposes the abuse but shows there can be a favorable outcome. Too often, we are overwhelmed with the depth of animal abuse issues. This uplifting book shows the wisdom of movement leaders along with courageous stories of ordinary people making a difference in animal lives. I bought a copy for my parents who read it cover to cover and have a better understanding of the animal issues I am fighting for. Is it just a coincidence that they now are doing volunteer work at a shelter in their area?
Not recommended.......2002-03-16
As a long-time animal rights activist, I can say that this collection of self-righteous interviews and melodramatic anecdotes adds little to the literature on the subject. A more serious discussion of animal rights advocacy would focus less on celebrity banter and mawkish rhetoric, and more on the entrenched cultural attitudes and public policies that perpetuate, and subsidize, the victimization of animals. This book is about people, self-important people, not animals. Sadly, I expected more, especially from such a reputable source.

Metaphors Dictionary
ASIN: 0313294909 |
Book Description
No other nonhuman source has served as the basis for more metaphors than animals. Speaking of Animals is a dictionary of animal metaphors that are current in American English. It is comprehensive, historical, and metaphor-based. Each entry refers to the other dictionaries that catalog that same metaphor, and the dates of first appearance in writing are supplied, where possible, for both the metaphor and the name of the source. The main text is organized alphabetically by metaphor rather than by animal or animal behavior; all the metaphors are classified according to their animal source in a list at the end of the book. An animal metaphor is a word, phrase, or sentence that expresses a resemblance or similarity between someone or something and a particular animal or animal class. "True" metaphors are single words, such as the noun tiger, the verb hog, and the adjective chicken. Phrasal metaphors combine true metaphors with other words, such as blind tiger, hog the road, and chicken colonel. Other animal metaphors take the form of similes, such as like rats leaving a sinking ship and prickly as a hedgehog. Still others take the form of proverbs, such as Don't count your chickens before they hatch and Let sleeping dogs lie. The horse is the animal most frequently referred to in metaphors, followed closely by the dog. The Bible is the most prolific literary source of animal metaphors, followed closely by Shakespeare.

Figment, Your Dog, Speaking.......2005-09-11
This is one of the best books that I have ever read- and by read I mean about twentyseven times. You might expect it to be totally silly and unmeaningful but it totally is. It teaches the reader about selflessness and love, and it was the first book that made me cry. Up until that point in my life, I had never thought of books as a personal thing, and the ending just hit me like- wham! I would recommend this book to all age levels, as everyone can use a lesson about imagination and what it means to have a best friend and really care about someone, even if that someone does happen to be a pet and especially when that someone happens to be a pet. This book has lessons about bullying, fitting in, tellking stories, caring for you fellow man, prejudice- everything. I love this book- five stars!
Cute book.......2000-07-11
This book is an adorable book! I highly recommend this book. I read it a while ago when I was on a car trip. My mom read it out loud and every one in my family enjoyed it.

Cool in School.......2007-10-04
[[ASIN:05 25478094 The Blabber Report]] FIVE STARS
All kids have to go to school, and school holds terrors that make the evening news look paltry. This funny book is the story of a blabbermouth who becomes frozen with fright at having to do an oral report. How he dreads his ordeal, and how he gets through it, is the plot. Half the gags are in the pictures, where funny details abound to be found. The zany realism of the illustrations make the book great to read to little kids and for bigger ones, like third-graders to enjoy on their own. And it stands up to lots of repeat readings. Highly recommended!

Hidden Track: How Visual Culture Is Going Places
ASIN: 3899550617 |
Book Description
Since its inception MTV has played an eminent role in defining the visual culture of several generations on a global scale. By continually challenging young, not yet known artists, animators and filmmakers to create images for its worldwide network of stations, MTV also functions as a catalyst for the creative expression of our time. This comprehensive book documents both the best in recent MTV designs and campaigns from around the world and the station's visionary influence on the design of the future.
On Air is the definitive collection of the broad range of visual art created for MTV - from brand logos to trailers, motion graphics, web design, advertising, etc. It includes classic and contemporary work done for stations in Asia, Europe and the Americas that was previously unseen outside of the local market for which it was created plus groundbreaking visuals that have yet to air. In order to include moving images, the book is accompanied by a DVD, which contains a vast selection of motion graphics, on air designs and clips from the MTV archives.
This authoritative volume presents a broad range of projects with information on the artists, briefings and releases. In addition to cutting edge images, it contains exclusive interviews with and texts by designers plus insightful information from MTV, which provide a rich context for the featured projects.

A con book.......2007-07-31
MTV all-hype imagery springs back to your head when you read the title of this book. Nothing could be farther from its content: B&W pictures taken off a TV screen. Actually 1 - ONE! - B&W picture per page that goes with a couple of paragraphs on what that image is about. Totally rip off using the MTV brand. The cover's nice though. Go for "Mtv: The Making of a Revolution" instead if you're interested on backstage information.

Lots of publishers rushed their books about the CompTIA Server+ certification to market. After all, it's a new certification and certification books tend to sell well. Trevor Kay and the team at Hungry Minds have taken care to put together a high-quality book. It'll get you up to speed on everything you'll need to understand before you can pass CompTIA's Server Hardware exam (SK0-001), and it's sufficiently detailed to serve as a reference as you put your certification to use on the job. Kay's approach to his subject is to use CompTIA's published outline of test coverage as his organizational guide, then elaborate on each of its points with lots of prose and a handful of illustrations.
Like the Server+ exam itself, this book does not guarantee prompt obsolescence by going into detail about specific server makes and models. Rather, it focuses on the knowledge and practices that make up the system administrator's core skills. These include familiarity with widely used technologies like SCSI and TCP/IP, and knowledge of how to set up remote network management systems. Kay is fond of describing good practices in terms of general tasks that can easily be translated into platform-specific procedures in the machine room. Because it's a certification guide, this book includes pre- and post-tests (the latter with annotated answers) in each chapter. --David Wall
Topics covered: The subjects covered by the CompTIA Server Hardware exam, including hardware planning, installation, configuration, modification, maintenance, and disaster recovery.
Book Description
The Server+ Certification Bible is a combination of information drawn right from the Server+ test objectives. It focuses on subject matter mastery, complete with review questions to prepare you for the exam. Topics focus on vendor-neutral knowledge covering multiple server types, server installation procedures, configuration and upgrading, advanced hardware issues, proactive maintenance, network cabling and connecting, troubleshooting, SCSI, multiple CPU's and RAID and will addressed a level of knowledge above basic hardware issues. As with all books in the Certification Bible series, The Server+ Certification Bible relies on logical organization, practice, and real-world examples to facilitate learning beyond the exam.
Covers: Exam SKO-001

Good Study Guide but for the old exam.......2007-06-05
This book became my primary study reference for the Server+ exam. It was inexpensive on the Amazon used market which compelled me to get it. Since I was an A+, N+, and Security + before starting this older edition I knew that the newer technologies were not given adequate coverage. I used this book with frequent web/wikipedia searches to successfully address the subject material. Only a few errors found. I recommend this book for experienced IT people. Less experienced folks should probably pay the extra money and get the current edition.
This book is okay.......2005-11-15
I read this book from cover to cover and found more then a fair share of errors. The one being that a 1U server is 1".
But when all was said and done I passed the SKO-002 Server+ test and the data base of 264 questions were helpful. I would not buy this book if your palanning on passing the test and have not study and passed the A+ and have networking under your belt. You won't
Lots of Inaccuracies.......2004-12-05
Failed Server+ today. I rarely fail tests and passed A+ easily a few weeks back. I've been supporting servers for over 10 years and paid very well for my expertise.
Book has tons of typos or just plain wrong info.
One huge mistake in book is that there's such a thing as 100BASE2!!!
Also, one question I failed on was about Magic Packets. They have to do with WOL (wake on LAN technology). I looked it up in book and they only thing close to it is what Trevor calls, "special" wake-up packet. There is no mention of a "Magic Packet" in the book.
I just Pased...........2004-10-24
Hey all... I just came back from the testing center and I passed The Server+ exam with 83 out of 100...This book is really good, well organized according to exam objectives, but there is a lack of some information such as SCSI320, Fiber optic channel, LUN, Bus architecture...The practice exams on the CD-ROM are good and so is the 100 question exam at the end of the book. But I think that one study resource is not enough. Therefore, I think that using some other study materials will do. Regarding to practice exams I think that TEST KING questions are great...
Good Book, but don't rely only on this book to pass!!.......2004-06-28
I pass the Server+ on June 25 th 2004 with a 83. When I was researching for a Server+ book I choose this book because of the good reviews I Read. It is a great reference book although it's a bite out date in some areas. I am satisfied though, because there were a lot things that were knew for me in this book. But my best advice is that if you going to buy this book use some secondary source such as a practice test, depending on you expertise. That way you might get more up to date questions.
I'm an Undergrad Bachelors Student. With the use of the Server+ Bible book and Transcender practice test, I passed. The practice test was $119,- Its costly but if you don't want to pay another $200,- to retake the Server+, its best to be prepared. From since I failed one of my MCSE test because I relied only on one source of martial to prepared for the test, I've always consider at least two resources. The combination of a book and practice test has always been helpful in passing certifications for me.
One good thing I have found useful in using two resources is that when you use the practice test and you get a question concerning a martial that you're not too familiar with. You can always go back to the book for reference in the areas that you're weak in.

Customer Reviews:
Total waste of money.......1999-08-12
This book is obsolete - it doesn't cover the SBS 4.5. So forget it
Several hundred pages of fluff..........1999-04-01
If you have no idea what you're doing get this book. It does a good job of summarizing the apps in SBS. If you want hard core, real-world examples and tips look somewhere else...if I knew where I'd tell ya.
re-write of the user manual.......1999-02-28
While a nobel attempt to provide add't documentation resources for us SBS users, the SBS Bible book didn't go much beyond the manual and other Microsoft-centric resources. For example, some of the RAS discussion was darn near copied from Microsoft sources...and many of us know RAS is a diaster..I'm concerned the author didn't have hard won war stories to share with us readers...
Color it yellow.... and rename it "SBS for Dummies".......1999-01-17
If you are having troubles connecting to your ISP and MS Support has worn you out.... DO NOT make the mistake of thinking that this book will have information that will assist you in resolving your problems..... On the other hand the book does offer some intresting explanations of other various networking issues....
Everything you need to know to get you started.......1998-07-19
This book is what should have been provided with the Small Business Server software! It provides the reader with everything necessary to get the Small Business Server up and running. The SBS was not designed to operate in complicated situations and readers will not find any magic tricks here. But the book does do an excellent job of keeping SBS administrator (new and old) on the right track.
